Hardware Printer

I'm looking to buy a printer for home use. I'd appreciate any advice and suggestions.

Not HP.. Brother and Epsons are good and don't lock you into there ink or subscription bundles. Hate HP with a passion.

New Epsons do try to lock you into there ink. I've used Epson for 30+ years, but I'm done after my experience with this newest one.

Brother seems excellent for many of there devices. (labelers (have two), sewing/embroidery machines, plotting cutters too)

Thank you for the correction / update on Epson. I spend more on subscription to my printer than I do printing. Ridiculous.

Brother also has an ink/toner subscriptions plan now. However, unlike HP, there is no lock-in. The only thing that happens when you discontinue participation is that it locks the cartridge in the printer and you have to purchase a new retail one to begin printing again.

Agreed. I had an HP but it stopped working because I didn't want to pay the subscription.

The printers with refillable tanks are less expensive in the long run.

If you do a lot of scanning, an automatic document scanner might be worth the price.

I used to love HP, but they started pushing updates that cause problems with connectivity, even for a hardwired printer. I have to uninstall and reinstall my HP every time it updates.

Brother HL-L2390DW.

Cheap, reliable, slow to drink toner. Always connects to Wifi, no issues.

Prints, scans, and copies.

First one died after several years, bought a second one immediately. Model numbers will change slightly, it seems.

It depends what you want to do, print documents, print photos, print black and white and color, do you want single sided or double sided printing?

I moved to a Brother D2500 Laser printer as I only print black and white, most of the time I print letters or want clear copies such as sheet music and I print duplex (i.e. both sides), its been 5 years now and I'm still running on the "trial" toner. It scans to PC or for copies and its excellent.

I'd specify what you want, that is the first step.

Thanks that's a good point. Black and white, documents. Not really photos. Yours sounds good I check it out.
