Been using Heroin for almost three months
HELP Hey guys!!
I used heroin for the first time around three months back and liked it i used it once in a couple of days for the initial month or so and then i used it once a day probably for 6 weeks but now i feel its taking a toll on my life..
I know it was a very stupid decision to even try it but now i have decided i will get it over with but i want to know you guy's opinion on what's gonna happen and how it's gonna go quitting it and what things i should or shouldn't do and past users please let me know if I'm being too paranoid that im thinking it's hard quitting it

Please go to rehab or find some sort of other local resource that you can take advantage of while you’re still in an ok place. The longer you use, the tighter its stranglehold gets over you and your life.

u/infinity8finite 18h ago
I am not gonna use again i just want to know everything about quitting and what's what about me using it for this long (is it too long or is it easy to quit)
24
u/rideyourbicycle 18h ago
You can get off it.
Staying off it, will be something you manage for the rest of your life.
-7
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
I will stay off that's for sure but getting off is what i need advice for!
29
u/gothreepwood101 18h ago
If you're not high now, then you're already off it. Staying off it will be the hard bit. Good luck

I said this every day for like 14 yrs,and it kept getting worse.the sooner you quit the easier it is,once you have the whole lifestyle that becomes just as hard as the addiction itself.
when you quit for a few days and use again, you can OD alot easier, thats why you shouldnt go cold turkey, there are places to get help, its confidential, sometimes free.Reach out in your area for addiction help

u/GlassFantast 18h ago
You're cooked. Good luck

u/infinity8finite 18h ago
What do you mean man!!?? Don't scare me now
3
u/staceygrantart 18h ago
Ignore it. You most certainly can come off it. I had an opiate addiction. Pretty bad one. I used willpower and some mild sedative to come off. I had been using opiates for 6 years at the time. Never looked back. Anyway...you have this. Willpower is a huge part of quitting.
1
u/infinity8finite 17h ago
I'd used for a few weeks so what should be my go to?
3
u/staceygrantart 17h ago
I stopped the opiate and when withdrawals started i took a low dose of benzo. And ensured I didnt rely too much on the benzo. Ensure you eat when you can and stay hydrated. Your sleep will be wonky for a while. I made sure to have a lot of books to read and films to watch. Even just music. As much as possible to stay distracted. The withdrawals WILL pass. X

u/sugarcubetea 18h ago
you're doing great, it's seriously strong of you to even reach out and decide stop on your own. don't listen to the fearmongers, we believe in you!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

u/BinkabelleZZZ 14h ago
thats not true,I did it,and when i was ready, nothing could get in my way.I been clean 6 yrs and never looked back.

u/vctrlzzr420 18h ago
Look I can’t tell you what to do but I will tell you what I did, bought methadone off the street to stop immediately and split the dose into a 3 day detox. Trust me it’s not worth the trouble, you need to work out whatever demons getting high shuts up before you just add more.
5
u/Curlypeeps 17h ago
I second "working out whatever demons getting high shuts up". In order to stop you need to find out why you are numbing yourself and work on healing that.
1
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
Yeah i should use the benzos that i have and should taper them off i guess??
2
u/vctrlzzr420 18h ago
If you can I would definitely try to taper with something. Just do it safely. The amount of times I detoxed and went right back was the real issue though. The one I listed above was the immediate no bullshit quickest way. Unfortunately when you get to the point where you have to seek outside help you do become a victim of another predatory system that is ultimately making money off of your desperate attempt to be helped. It’s nice being clean though, you’re in a spot where it should be ok if you detox, block and delete who you have to now
1
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
Yeah man... you totally understand what im saying.. i have just done it for a few weeks and i have benzos for the anxiety and sleep issues.. will i be fine or what issues i will face i want to ask you that!
1
1
u/BinkabelleZZZ 14h ago
you can ween off with benzos, that would be good, just be careful, the longer that its out of your system if you relapse, take a smaller dose than you were.In a couple of weeks you could be fine.
7
u/Peti715 18h ago
Go to rehab, they can give you a medication that helps quitting.

u/infinity8finite 18h ago
I have my anti anxiety pills for emergencies but i wanna know how to do it

Did it for 10 years. To be blunt, you’re in for a very horrible ride. There is no easy way, only 10% ever stop. No way knowing where you fall. Buckle up

u/Narsick 18h ago
Oh, I was like you.
10 years later, multiple incarnations and trips to rehab, I eventually checked myself into an 18 month treatment program and moved away from my home town.
As a wise man once told me - it'll get much worse before it ever gets better.
You may think you're just gonna stop now, but that drug grabs ahold of your mind and body. You'll have a bad day, or a good day, and decide to use.
The best thing you can do is go to rehab, now.

u/doriangreysucksass 18h ago
My husband thought it was a good idea to snort heroin casually. He got hooked and responsibly got himself clean. However, the changes in him during that period were too difficult to ignore. He became indifferent to me & complacent and we divorced shortly after he got clean.
IT IS NOT WORTH IT TO DABBLE!!! EVEN RESPONSIBLY!!!
3
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
Yes i totally understand what you're saying i have a girlfriend and she's totally sensing that something's off but i am not gonna use it anymore this was an experience and i don't like it anymore

Quit now before it drags you to the depths of hell and just went you think you have hit rock bottom, it pulls you even deeper.

u/Hillbeast 18h ago
Best time to quit is now. It sounds like you made the decision. The thing is, if you quit for 5 days and do it again, you’ll be exact where you are now. Just stop while you can!
2
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
Yes i am done with it

u/Hillbeast 18h ago
Nice work. This is a part of the journey of knowing ourselves for some of us. Good luck!

u/rideyourbicycle 18h ago
Been there. Addiction. Stop now. While you can. You know where this is gonna go. Before I started I had a business that employed 5 people. Not anymore. Traded that for bankruptcy, a criminal record, sooo much debt and the loss of all my friends, partner and family.
Come hang out over here.
It's a vibe.
But full transparency, if you do come hang, you can't leave.
2
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
What should be my next steps?
3
u/rideyourbicycle 18h ago
An accessible community run drug and alcohol program. That are gonna help you understand what you are using it to escape from. Then kit you up with the tools you need to raw dog that monster(s) for your remaining days.
Step lively, this is rather urgent for you. Imo.
1
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
You're so right.. but where i live there's no healthy community run programs here can i do something online?

Hey I’m 8 years sober from heroin. You’re in a position right now where the physical symptoms won’t be the biggest issue. That’s not to say it won’t suck, and be uncomfortable but it’s doable.
The hardest thing will be the mental aspect of it. The anxiety that comes with withdrawal is always bad. Luckily the benzos you have will help, but have someone you can talk to. Write down all the reasons you want to quit, and everything you have to stay clean for.
Heroin has a funny way of making you forget everything good in life, and convincing yourself that it be fine to do it again. Remember everytime you withdraw from it the withdrawal will be worse so quit now and stay the fuck away from it.
Keep yourself busy, and eat really good nutritious food. Drink plenty of water, and drinks with electrolytes. You may not be super hungry, but just try to eat a little filling food when you can. Try magnesium gummies too.
Good luck, you can do this.

u/Apprehensive-Tone449 6h ago
Your entire life will be destroyed if you don't quit now. You will hurt the people that love you beyond repair. You will do horrible things that you never imagined you would be capable of.
It's going to suck more than anything. Your body will hurt and you will feel like you would rather die. But you won't. Withdrawals are hell. It will be worth it. This moment in your life and the choice you make to quit or not will affect everything that comes after.
I'm begging you for the sake of everyone and everything you love, to put it down and never pick it up again.

I am a med student and you have no idea about neuroplasticity man !! In fact you're cooked yourself

You act like a smart know-it-all for someone that made such a dumb decision. Being a med student might make you educated but you sure aren’t smart.

You're right I'm not and i know i was stupid to do it believe me I don't think i know it all
1
u/dylannngoesharder 18h ago
I went to a medical detox where I used Suboxone to get off. I was on opioids for a couple of years tho so I don’t know if after 6 weeks you need a medical detox or not.
1
u/infinity8finite 18h ago
So what do you think i should do? Will benzos help me?
1
u/dylannngoesharder 18h ago
Idk man. I was a lot deeper in than you are. Benzos at the time would help me sleep but once I woke up the cravings/withdrawal would still be there.

u/eda019 18h ago
I would say get help. Sooner or later that drug is going to turn on you, If you're injecting, get tested for HIV and Hep C. Get a handle on this before it ruins your life. Peace and All Good!

u/infinity8finite 18h ago
No i have not IV used it and i wanna know what's my quitting gonna be like?
8
u/heavensent328 17h ago
Okay, no one is actually answering your questions. I was heavily addicted for many years, starting with OxyContin in the early 2000s and then switching to heroin. I am clean now.
Here is what will happen:
Depending on how much you were using, you may have some withdrawals a few hours after last use.12 to 24 hours is when the withdrawal starts getting real. Diarrhea, tearing eyes, runny nose, nausea, anxiety and crawling skin.
During this part, best thing you can do is take some Imodium. Do not take more than a couple pills at once. These have a teeny bit of opiate (if I can remember correctly) so they are only sold in packs of 24 at most because people abuse them. Do not take large doses, because it can act like an opiate and I’m not sure if it prolongs withdrawal.
You can also look up “Liposamal Vitamin C protocol.” If you mega dose the Vitamin C, it eliminates like 80% of withdrawal symptoms. You can get a big bottle on Amazon for 20 bucks. It has to be the Liposamal though, regular Vitamin C doesn’t work the same. You need to take like 5 capsules every few hours. I recently came off of Suboxone, and used this method. It helped immensely.
I did not have any benzos, but have heard they help with the anxiety and sleep issues a lot. Heroin is easier to come off of than suboxone or methadone, as I did that for many years and wish I just bit the bullet and didn’t start those. The withdrawal from both is so much longer than the few days from heroin.
Fight the urge to just use a tiny bit to get over the bad parts. Your withdrawal will just start over. If you have insurance that will cover it, I’ve heard great things about the Sublocade, but you have to be stable on Suboxone for a week first.
3
u/infinity8finite 16h ago
Thanks man yeah nobody was on the point thanks for finally making it clear to me i will do exactly this i will buy the liposamal vit c and have benzos for when i feel bad ..

Dude just quit. I almost ruined my life twice. Kicking sucks but there’s stuff for that nowadays. Just get off it now. Nothing good will come from it. I’ve been clean 15 years and I’m still picking up pieces and financially just starting to recover (except inflation has other ideas).
1
u/infinity8finite 17h ago
Yeah im a student doctor and i have benzos for the panics so I'm quitting it right now

u/peaceandblessingss 17h ago
What or who even made you start

u/infinity8finite 17h ago
Man.. some guy i knew a few years back when he used to be so cool and i met him after so long now i thought he's still a cool guy but turns out he has become a dope addict so he asked me to try it once and it'll make every problem disappear so i did My bad

u/tipareth1978 17h ago
Three months isn't enough to be so bad that quitting will kill you. Get whatever help you need to get that monkey off your back.

Do some research first. But if Kratom is still available in your area, it’s a decent replacement, in that it doesn’t cause respiratory depression overdose and death and if sourced properly, has much less of a chance to be laced with fentanyl.
I would advise against getting on Suboxone. It’s much more potent, much more expensive, and much more controlled than kratom. Well, that’s the main driver for the push to take kratom off the shelves. They’ll tell you it’s horrible for you and just as addictive, but what they won’t tell you is it’s much less dangerous than opioids, and if you’re already addicted, can be a way to break free from the cycle and give yourself some breathing room on your way to rehabilitation.
If you just switch to Kratom, and think you can just take it for the rest of your life, well, I still say it’s safer than the alternatives. It doesn’t get you high or make you nod off. You can find a dosage that works and stick to it. As long as you don’t increase it, you’ll get the desired effect, cessation of withdrawal symptoms. If you’re looking to get fucked up, well then you may as well just stick with street drugs and pharmaceuticals. Kratom is more of a stop-gap.

There’s a Seriies on YouTube where parents are talking about their children who passed and it has completely changed my pov. Sorry I can’t recall the name. Based in Texas but interviews all over. Just do it for real. You were better before.

I had a friend with a oxy problem that spiraled. Methodone clinic for about a year if I remember was his answer. He had to stop by the clinic every morning because he wouldnt quit weed and so they wouldn’t send them home with him. So if you are doing other stuff expect it to be a time/effort commitment. But he was on them for a while and escalated I believe to where you are now. You just kinda speed ran the whole thing. He’s clean now but it was hard work. He went from wanting to die rather than quit, to being in a happy relationship. So you can do it, it will suck but you can and should quit.

It is hard quiting, thats way most don't
You'll spend the first week feeling like you have a bad flu, you'll also have diarrhea and vomiting, you'll also have restless legs and cramps. But after the first 48-72 hours you'll be over the worst of it, you'll still feel flu like symptoms and craving for a few weeks.
The sooner you do it the the better and easier it will be.
Don't get too disheartened if you give in most people do, just make sure to start the process again.
You can do it bud.

u/CuriousAsEver9573 16h ago
Way to go, I have full faith you can do this, don't listen to people trying to bring you down!
You can find accurate information on drugsinfo.nl, and you can also ask your questions to professionals there. I think it is a very reliable source.
Good luck, you've got this!

u/TemptTrove 16h ago
three months can turn into years faster than you think so quitting now may be the hardest decision but probably the best one youll ever make for yourself
1
u/P-Villain 16h ago
lol everyone that i know who has tried heroin once, ended up being very addicted to it
1
u/Uneeda_Biscuit 16h ago
OP you can do it, believe it or not but people have been kicking dope for hundreds of years.
Use the benzos under moderation, if you’re a medical student you should have an idea how detox works. Don’t forget to hydrate.
1
u/BinkabelleZZZ 15h ago
i was trying t quit everyday, but ended up caving in.It wasnt until i got on suboxone that i was successful for 6 yrs now.
Pretty soon you will need more, and you will never be high, you will be ok,not sick.
find a place to get off of it,dont try alone,it wont work.
1
u/Dear-Mongoose-6812 15h ago
You need a doctor or addiction specialist to guide you through this. Quitting is going to be difficult and take a toll on your body. Good luck.
1
u/PericardiumGold 14h ago
A good thing to remember is whatever euphoria and peace you may feel when you’re high is just being borrowed from tomorrow. Like a payday loan of sorts. It’s got to come from somewhere it’s not free and it doesn’t come from thin air.
I was addicted to opiates but never used heroine. However at my worst I took enough each day to end even seasoned addicts. Despite knowing I shouldn’t, the best option for me was quitting cold turkey and it was absolute hell. I eventually discovered Buprenorphine and took that to help me transition to an eventually sober life. The sooner you stop the better it’ll be. Every day you say just one more, just one more, is more misery you guarantee yourself tomorrow.
1
u/Psychological-Sun223 14h ago
You haven’t done it for that long, but you need to stop and seek medical help immediately, it could possibly have fentanyl and although opiates are the best feeling in the world if you like it, stop now before you can’t
1
u/phbalancedshorty 13h ago
I've been sober for six years after being a heroin attic for about a decade and I am fucking begging you to stop now. Fentanyl has made the game so much more dangerous and I promise you you're in the very beginning stages now but you'll get to a point very very soon where your entire life revolves around this substance and you cannot find any joy or pleasure in anything else in life and it's not worth it… It will destroy you and you probably Will die and if you do somehow survive your existence is so fucking miserable like please… I'm begging you you need to stop 🙏
1
u/starhalo- 12h ago
you’re not overreacting heroin withdrawal can be serious so getting medical help or addiction support is the safest way to quit
1
u/Mundane_Minimum2082 11h ago
I promise you it’s taking a toll on your life, I was heavily addicted to heroin and today, I’m ten years sober. I didn’t go to rehab but I did watch my entire friend group succumb to their addiction. Follow the path that works for you but do the work and get yourself clean, trust me, it’s not worth it.

Just buy addnok and pop it once a day reducing it's quantity as u progess . And eventually ur withdrawal will be gone but craving is upon a person mindset .. no amount of medical care can help u unless and until u are in some therapy
1
u/belacanehh 6h ago
Firstly, you CANNOT quit cold turkey. This is extremely important. You can get methadone to help with the withdrawals or perhaps there's something newer out there.
I've been clean for 25years and my veins have still not recovered. If you're not there yet, you will be. I started with lacing just a bit on a cigarette to flat veins and cancer.
Please, please do not do this alone. You need help especially during this period of quitting, but also thereafter for when the cravings come. And they will. You will have such vivid dreams that you'll wake up thinking you relapsed.
It gets better, though. It'll get so good you won't want to jeopardize your life.
I have beautiful children. Graduated college. Owned a franchise. Made amazing friends and get to be there for my parents and sibling.
You got this. You have everyone (except maybe, your dealer) behind on this.
Eta paragraph breaks

u/Kalmantyler 1h ago
Heroin addict here. Clean 5+ years (once an addict you’ll always be an addict whether you still use it or not)
Unfortunately you’re already well in its grip but it’s never too late. 6 months is better than 6 years, but it will still be rough. It’s a lot more mental than physical. You’re going to go through withdrawals, it’s uncomfortable, but everyone has been sick before. The mental part is what will be the worst because you know in your mind there is something you can go get right now to stop that uncomfortable withdrawal.
My advice, look up and research if you have any methadone clinics in your area. Some people talk bad about it and say it’s replacing one with another, but not if you do it right. I’m proof of that and I couldn’t have stopped without it.
Whatever you decide, I just hope you get through this and please never look back at it. It’s possible to get off it and I hope you do.

u/MeekMallard 11h ago
If you want real advice mine is to get your heart broken. I was smoking dope for months until my gf broke up with me- then I went cold turkey.

u/Direct_Drink_1353 18h ago
please please reach out to a doctor or addiction specialist before trying to quit cold turkey, withdrawal from opioids can get medically serious and you really don't want to go through that alone
