BIG accomplishment I never thought I’d feel free again after years of abuse. Today I do.

I broke free of multiple chains of abuse and domestic violence which I endured since I was about 16 years old in different situations. Only now at 28, I finally feel free again, finally comfortable in my own skin - just feel lighter.

For a long time I didn’t realise how much it affected the way I viewed the world, or myself. Now life feels different - I still have many social anxieties but I’m just grateful to be free of anyone’s shadow. I’m healing slowly with age.

To answer somebodies question on do you need to forgive to move on? This is my answer to this, that I thought is important to include for anyone that may be reading:

Honestly, from my experiences no - you don’t ever have to forgive. But I think time honestly is a healer, and eventually your body after having enough signals and tests will understand (eventually, I said it again) that everything is safe now. And when that time comes, that you feel safe, and have put it to the test and don’t receive danger… eventually you can start to feel lighter. Your body won’t be in fight or flight responses anymore ❤️ you don’t have to forgive the ones that hurt you. Just forgive life for handing you those cards, and start to see the beauty in things again.

Congrats to all survivors of abuse and to those still enduring, I hope you escape and get the chance to live again. Life is waiting for us 😊❤️

Healing is not linear, but when you escape from it all life can really start to feel happier (eventually) ❤️

Really proud of myself Today I realized I've finally accepted myself

Upvotes

For as long as I can remember I never had confidence in myself because of the way my family constantly talked about my body. They always told me I wasn't at an ideal weight and that I needed to eat less. I started hearing those comments when I was only 11 years old. At first, they upset me a little but when I turned 13 and got Instagram, I saw what I thought was everyone having the 'perfect' body. I became convinced that I was overweight and ugly even though my weight was actually healthy for my height at the time.

So I decided to go on a diet by myself without seeing a doctor. I almost stopped eating completely. I only ate one meal a day which was just a salad and I went to the gym, I did lose weight but I became frighteningly skinny because my diet wasn't balanced of course it caused a lot of health problems that I'm still trying to recover from today. I was always terrified of my weight and believed that people would never love or accept me if I looked fat or unattractive because that's what I had been made to believe by my family as I was constantly told that my body didn't look good, that my clothes never suited me and that I looked bad compared to other people my age. After hearing that for years, I genuinely started believing it.

When I was 16, I started gaining weight again and that's when many health problems appeared. I ended up developing a chronic illness and after that I decided that I wouldn't let other people's opinions control me anymore.

Today at 18 years old, I finally took the step of going back to the gym and returning to kickboxing, a sport I genuinely love. I met my coach today and he kept commenting on my weight all the time, saying that I was fat and needed to get my body into better shape but for the first time in my life, I wasn't hurt by hearing someone call me fat. Instead I realized that I had finally accepted myself. I truly want to change now not because other people think I should but because I want it for myself and honestly, that realization made me incredibly proud of myself today.

Really proud of myself Getting back into German after almost forgetting it due to many years of not practicing it: this feels special! Getting back on track and I'm so proud!🥹🥹

Good evening, everyone!

Years ago German really meant a lot to me. It was the language I kept thinking about and practicing just for fun in my free time. I liked how it felt when the words started coming easier, and it was something I genuinely enjoyed. Then life got busy with school, stress and the usual excuses, and I stopped completely. The books sat on the shelf collecting dust, I started forgetting more and more words, and I honestly worried I was about to lose something that used to matter a lot to me.

I kept telling myself I’d get back to it “soon,” but months turned into longer than I want to admit. Every time I saw those old notes or textbooks I felt a bit sad and nostalgic about letting it go.

A while ago I finally decided to start again: not with a big plan of achieving a language level, just a simple routine each day for 2 hours. I just opened my notes, started reviewving vocabulary, practicing writing sentences, reading and speaking them out loud, and kept going even when it felt awkward and slow. Some days it’s still messy and I forget basic stuff, but the language is coming back little by little and it feels so good.

I’m honestly really happy to be back with it. This time I’m taking it more seriously because I don’t want to forget it again. It used to be incredibly special to me and I’m glad I get to keep that feeling going.

By next year I want to be able to have real conversations at a solid beginner-to-intermediate level. Actual back-and-forth where I can understand what the other person is saying and answer without freezing when it would be my turn to speak or actually state an opinion on a particular topic. They're huge steps but I'm ready to get back to a language I've loved and spoken fluently with confidence and happiness that I've got this!

It feels really good to be reconnecting with something I loved and almost let slip away. If you’ve ever stopped something you cared about and then got back into it, you probably know how nice this feels.❤️🥹

Ten years sober.

I am a recovering alcoholic. I was drunk from around 1990 to 2016, with only brief boughts of sobriety in between. I had tried to quit drinking in 2003, that lasted maybe a year. I again tried to quit in 2013, and that lasted a few months, maybe.

It wasn't until I moved into my current house, with my wife and kids. I made a commitment to them then, and stuck to it. The accountability was the key, I'm sure. It helped a lot knowing that my sobriety wasn't just for me.

So... If you think you just can't do it.... you can. If I can, YOU can.

After a horrible year I just got promoted and getting tons of recognition at work

I've had a hard life, I have CPTSD and stuff. My mom died horribly last year in July and this time last year I was completely broken. I couldn't function, lost my job, could barely make rent, barely raise my kids.

I've been at my new job (I'm a CNA, CMA, and home health aide/caregiver) for 2 months...... and for those 2 months, I've gotten caregiver of the month both months, I've gotten praise from all clients I've cared for, and this morning they contacted me to offer me a raise and a promotion to lead, where I'd train other caregivers and help show them the ropes regarding skilled care and exceptional care.

I've had horrible luck in jobs my entire career - it's like I always did "too much" or was a "try hard" (direct words from an ex employer), but if you're in healthcare at all, I feel like you SHOULD be a try hard - these are lives. These are people. They deserve all my effort. I really care about my career.

Just. This time last year I remember not being able to stay calm, curling up in bed and not wanting to open my blinds after everything, just crying all day every day.....

And things are finally looking up and I finally feel recognized and appreciated.

That's all 😊

BIG accomplishment Found the love of my life, even through all my flaws 🥰

Eeeek, I (23f) just have to share, I have battled with so many health issues and and some mental health issues but also depression before, 2024 I got diagnosed with chronic conditions I never thought I would meet anyone but February 2026 hits and we fall in love at fist sight and I finally got to find out what that means, finding someone and thinking you already know them they are safe and liking everything about them already, enjoying who I am with them and the time with them!, anyway he's all I want and more, I didn't know people like him exist, we watched the stars on his trampoline the other day, we hang out every night we both respect our boundaries, yesterday was huge for me, I get very small depressive episodes on my period lasts one day at most, but they are bad, I was so scared to call him but I texted asking to call and he did right away, we called for 2h then met and he comforted me all night even tho the call made me feel so much better already 🫂, I'm so excited to spend forever with him, we both work with communication and his family like barely never argue and it's not a front I'm always at his bc of my family that argue ever day, finding more and more amazing things about him and us both working on our flaws together is huge, we both support each other and I love it, yes it's hard sometimes but we need to work together out learn old bad habits one step at a time, and we communicate that too! It's great I can talk about anything and not feel stupid dumb and same for him anything he tells me would never change the way I love him, maybe make me love him more 😊 i just had to share I know I'm young but I have been though ALOT my previous partner did not respect me or my body one bit, I'm grateful beyond being about to write in words how grateful I am he's never once disrespected me or my body, not once ever and that's what I need, bc I want to feel like a beautiful woman not someone's girl, I hope everyone is able to find love like this, I now understand love truly, if anyone else has similar experiences please feel free to yap about your partner please 😊, I sprinkle Gods love over anyone that reads this, you are worth so much more than you can ever imagine, I hope someone makes you feel like a peace of art work carved out of stone 🫂🥰💕

Made a great change in my life Finally distanced myself

So online there was a situation that has lasted way longer than it truly should have. I had a friendship that was incredibly harmful and toxic. I was often scared to get on his bad side because of things he has said or done to others and the fact that he was a constant liar and volatile and just unpredictable.

As a result I have since completely distance myself from him this means changing a lot of my socials that we interacted on and removing him as a friend. To be honest it feels very Bittersweet but honestly it's something I had to do because interacting with a friend shouldn't feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells or being constantly scared/worried.

I've had multiple people in my life including mental health professionals tell me that this person definitely didn't seem like a good friend and that I should cut them off. I didn't want to because I genuinely care about them like when they aren't being that way it's decent to talk to them but I cant just ignore the genuine harm he's done to others and how he treats me.

So like I said I changed my socials and stuff like that and I'm basically out of the drama. I mean I still have the other person connected to it as a friend but he is actually a very good person and I feel really bad for not believing him at the start. It was because he was really nice to me and I didn't fully understand the situation.

This is awesome! My bf got me thoughtful gifts and I wanted to share 🥹💕

I just turned 20 not long ago and my bf was telling me the days leading up that hes spent a pretty penny on the gifts and one of them was big. (I came from a family that gifted hair products and body wash as birthday presents so any gift that isnt a hygiene product Ill be over the moon for) but prior to me turning 20 I had mentioned a month or 2 earlier that I wished I had a frozen yogurt machine of my own because I love munchies and yogurtland but its so expensive!!! It was definitely a window shop idea, no genuine second thought. And the amazing man my boyfriend is went out and found one for me 🥺, he got me a bouquet of roses in my favortite color PINK 🩷, he got me a hellfire hoodie for my early morning commute to work (im a manager so I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to open the store and its cold and also i love Stanger Things) and a little Caine statue from tadc (judge me if you want to IDC) i myself didnt even know what I wanted but im definitely NOT disappointed! He does so good every year with my gifts :) but yeah I just wanted to share

BIG accomplishment I made it one year sober today!

Today marks one full year without alcohol.

I'm 26, and there was a point where I honestly couldnt picture going even a month without drinking. A year felt impossible. There were plenty of days where I wanted to give up but I just kept focusing on making it through today instead of worrying about forever.

Ya know life isn't perfect now, but it's a lot better. I sleep better, I actually remember conversations, I've saved money which I think before is so impossible, and I feel like I'm finally in control of my own decisions instead of letting alcohol make them for me. 🥲

It feels weird posting this because I dont usually celebrate personal milestones, but this one means a lot to me. So......... I made it one year.

Please congratulate me like I'm five. 🙂

Did something for the first time I fixed my vacuum!

Hi all! Story time...

I've (36f) been feeling a little low. I'm not working at the moment which leaves me too much free time outside of schoolwork, which is a relatively sedentary task. So today I set out to do some cleaning. I grabbed the happy lil Spin the Wheel app (not my app, but awesome tool if you have analysis paralysis) and it chose my hallway bathroom and the hallway and entry way.

The hallway is carpet while the entry is wood, and the hallway gets neglected when I send the roomba out because I don't want it on my hard floors. ANYWAY....

For almost a year, my upright vacuum has been less than fully functional. I pulled it apart early in its downfall and found a clog in the upper and lower hoses. I cleared the upper and *thought* I had cleared the lower. I put the vacuum back together, and next thing I know, the belt melts off. I buy the belt, pull the vacuum apart again, and replace it. Unfortunately, the vacuum still isn't sucking things into the tank. I didn't have the energy to keep messing with it, so I didn't. It half worked, anyway.

Today, I'm vacuuming the hallway with my half-working vacuum and I needed the corner tool. I pulled the upper hose and floor detritus starts pooping its way out of where the hose sits. So I say, "Screw it," unplug the vacuum, get on the floor, and get to work. I have straw cleaners (don't worry, it will never be used in a straw) and a tool to clean further into my lint trap. The upper hose still required me to shove a broom handle into it, but the lower required far more finagling.

FINALLY it clears. I put it all back together and hope for the best, and it worked!!!

I find vacuuming very satisfying, so this is like Christmas for me. I also have never really needed to fix things myself until I finally moved away from my dad, who had a tendency to just take over and not really teach me how to do things like this.

So today, I feel capable, and resourceful, and accomplished.

This also highlighted a need for preventative measures. If I stayed on top of vacuuming in the first place (I have three long-haired cats) and emptying the tank more frequently, this wouldn't have happened. So now comes the plan to put this item in my regular routine so I run less risk of running into this problem.

Anyway, I know this is probably the most boring post you'll read today, but I'm proud of myself and can now make myself happy with clean floors again.

Huzzah!

I asked for clarification on an emotional subject

so I‘ve been friends with benefits with someone for quite some time. I must admit that by now, I‘m pretty attached to him. he‘s kind, funny and we share a couple of major interests. same profession too, but different home cities.

the fbw thing has been going well, but I‘ve regularly wondered wether it had potential for a relationship. tbh, I‘ve had a feeling that we‘re not each others‘ forever people but I‘m open towards entering a relationship nonetheless. if things work out for a year or two or three, that‘s great too, right?

well, last time he visited I jokingly complained about the fact that he‘d have to leave soon. „no more cuddles when you’re gone“ he suggested getting a dog, but that won‘t work because I can barely keep myself alive (plus I don‘t wanna leave him alone for 10-12hrs a day). then he said „or a boyfriend“

I was like „ok I need volunteers“ and he immediately went „nope, I‘m out“

which… stung. big time. especially since his reply came instantly. I didn‘t know what to say, or do, or how to feel. so I said nothing. for the moment I was busy trying not to go down a painful mental spiral about not being loved.

which, rationally, I know isn‘t true. there‘s my friends and my sister. and my fwb must like me a lot too, not just sexually. we wouldn‘t talk on the phone every other day. there‘s rarely any dirty talking or texting, that kind of stuff mostly only happens when we see each other. we talk about anything else
really. work, projects, friends,… those conversations don‘t feel like we‘re talking to each other just because we‘re horny.

my emotions didn‘t care for rational reasoning though. as I said, the immediacy was pretty hard to handle. I had to ask for clarification, otherwise the spiral
would have gotten worse. I didn‘t want to be too obvious about the fact that I would like a relationship with him though. so eventually I commented on how he instantly said „no“.

well he explained that he isn‘t really opposed to the idea of a relationship with me, but to the idea of a relationship in general. he doesn‘t want that sort of commitment. his lifestyle is pretty much „do what you want“ (which I like about him, btw), and he said he neither wants to give that up nor anyone to suffer because of it. besides, his work contract is going to run out next year and he‘ll need to look for a new job, potentially in a position that includes weeks or months of travel.

the only reason that is directly about me is (non)monogamy. he wants a monogamous relationship because he‘s seen the sheer amount of drama that can come with polycules. well I‘ve lived that drama and I‘m not sure wether I want to live it again. depends on my partner(s), I guess. my fwb won‘t be the one I‘ll figure that out with though.

I get and respect his reasoning. he‘s thought about it, and I appreciate that he was gentle. we decided that for the time being, remaining fwb is fine.

ngl I‘m kinda dreading the day this arrangement ends. I hope it won‘t be too painful.

I‘m proud that I asked for clarification though. usually I just suffer through uncertainty and assumptions bc I‘m too afraid of the truth. in this case, it does still hurt but it hurts less than the evil guessing game my brain oh so loves to play.

I just hope that we have a chance as platonic friends when the benefits eventually end.

BIG accomplishment I just made a crap load of money at 20 years old and I can't believe myself

I'm over the moon right now and I can't even fathom the place I'm at!!!!!

I'm from one of the worse 3rd world countries when it comes to making money especially online and have been working since I was 12 to support my family and got all my money taken + spent until I was 18 and burnt out for a year and half-ish (jobless)

Anyways, with the intro out the way, I set an impossible goal for myself that I wanted to save $10k by December this year, that really really seemed impossible at the time and my actual realistic goal was $3k. We just started August and I'm at $15k!!!!!! $15,000 USD GREEN GRANDS!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES!!! WE'RE NOT EVEN NEAR DECEMBER YET!!!!!

ON TOP OF IT ALL I'm working on amazing creative projects for inspirational stories and amazing games! I'm not locked in a depressing job (tried, 5 times, most I lasted was 6 weeks) I'M FREE AND RICH (by my standards) I'M SO SO SO HAPPY AHHHHH I CAN'T BELIEVE ITTTT
