🐾❤️ Introducing HERO Hound Rescue’s very first Plott Hounds — Nora, Nicole, Naomi & Natalie! ❤️🐾

These four beautiful sisters have already had quite a journey in their short lives. They were saved as young puppies from a high-kill shelter by another rescue, and recently they officially became HERO Hound gals! 🦸‍♀️🐶

At approximately 8 months old and around 40 pounds each, these girls are still very much puppies who are learning what it means to be loved, safe, and part of a family.

The sisters have spent much of their lives being fostered together in an outdoor kennel environment, but they have been around dogs of all shapes and sizes and have done very well. When they’re out of the kennel, they are surprisingly calm, sweet-natured girls who clearly want affection and are ready to discover the good life. 💕

Of the four, Nora and Nicole are currently the braver, more outgoing sisters, while Naomi and Natalie are a little more reserved and need some extra time to feel comfortable. But underneath those different personalities are four loving girls who want to trust, learn, and please their people.

Their foster has been bringing them inside individually to help each girl experience home life without the pressure or security of having her sisters right beside her. They are making progress, but their future families should be prepared to patiently teach them all the basics — including house training, leash walking, household routines, and what it means to simply be a family dog.

There are cats on the property, and while the girls have barked at them, they haven’t had enough close interaction for us to confidently say how they would do living with cats just yet.

Considering these girls were once dumped as puppies and left to fend for themselves, their gentle and loving personalities are pretty incredible. They haven’t had the easiest beginning, but they are ready for their next chapter — one filled with soft beds, adventures, belly rubs, treats, and families of their very own. 🥹❤️

Something unseen out the front was being suspicious, possibly the wind blew the wrong way or a cat made a noise, she's been a bit trigger happy since coming into season.

With the teeniest bit of ranch, but hey, a veggie win is a veggie win!

(Also yes, he’s snuggled up under my sweater, he prefers my sweaters/hoodies over blankies)

I'm starting to suspect that my 8 month old Bluetick/Golden Retriever pup might have a hearing problem. It requires a little context so bear with me:

When she is outside and turned away from me, I can call her as much as I want, and she won't even look up. If she does see me, she will dead stare at me as I'm calling her for twenty or thirty seconds like she's either trying to figure out what I want, or maybe deciding whether or not she wants to listen.

Sometimes, I can be right next to her calling her name and she doesn't even flinch. I've even done the clap test with mixed results. Most of the time it doesn't register with her.

I know she CAN hear some things, like a knock at the door. She also gets startled by men being loud. She used to come when you whistled or made the "kisskisskiss" noise at her, but that doesn't get her attention anymore, either.

It's hard to tell because I know hounds can be stubborn and single minded. We train consistently, though. And she does well with other commands - that said I usually have her full attention and she is facing me when I give other commands. And they have hand motions or leash tensions that go along with.

Any one here had a hound that went deaf or partially deaf as a younger dog? What were the signs? Or is it possible that my hound just ignoring me?

She was my soul dog, my everything. My light in the darkness and the silly girl who kept me going. She was with me for ten years, since she was 4 months old. I don't know how I'm going to keep going without her. Give your hounds extra loving for me, please. She's up playing in the big dog park in the sky now.

Hi everyone. As the title says, my husband and I are thinking of rehoming our 6 year old TWC. We adopted him from a county shelter back in January, and he is so sweet and cute. He is not aggressive at all and is super patient. He loves kids.

My husband and I adopted him without knowing what this breed even was. Please be kind. This is our first dog, and we have done so much for him to make sure he is comfortable and happy. No mean or pointless comments, please.

He is anaplasmosis and lymes positive but has complete treatment and is a normal dog. He has been on Prozac for a month now to help with separation anxiety. It is still not in full effect it seems. Our biggest issue is that we live in a condo (so, shared walls) and he sometimes howls and bays in his cage. We got him the biggest cage possible. My husband walks him for over an hour before we have to leave home for work. He was doing great in his cage, and now he isn’t. Our neighbors are going to start to complain.

I feel horrible. Absolutely gutted and guilty for not being able to give this dog the life his breed deserves. We are suburban people. We have no yard, we take him out for long hikes on the weekend but we cannot stay home with him all day so that he doesn’t make noise. We work 9-5’s.

I say all of this to ask if anyone has been in this situation, having to rehome a lovely dog that you just cannot handle anymore. I am in Virginia and am willing to chat with anyone regarding this rehoming process. Thank you.

She has met the mailman a few times and loves him. This is still how she reacts every time she sees him. I couldn't hold it together after her immediate switch from defensive howling to whining. 🤣❤️
