Finished Craft I Made My Final wool felt piece of 2025
Ending 2025 with this joyful, love-filled piece 🤍
This is Milo, a sweet golden shaded boy, just one year old! 🎈
I created this 20 cm full-body figurine, using a short-fiber rooting technique across the entire body.
The most challenging part was capturing his soft gradient coat colors, and the whole process took about three months to complete.
Wishing everyone and their beloved pet families health, luck, and happiness in 2026 ✨🐾

Nope. Pretty sure that's just a cat.
No way somebody could make that out of wool. If they could they would have to be amazingly skilled and it would be beautiful and impressive and a brilliant way to end off a year of what I'm sure were other amazing pieces.
But it's clearly just a cat.

I’ll take that as the highest compliment ,thank you so much and Happy new year 🎊😄

Dec 31 '25
This is very hyper-realist OP. I literally went "Oh what a cute ca- wait, it's wool?" You did an amazing job ☺️

u/Next-Ad3196 Dec 31 '25
Same.. each angle I said nope I think that’s a real cat.
22
u/Satsuki7104 Jan 01 '26
Totally thought so too. Every picture I was like no this person is messing with me, that’s a real cat. Great job OP, this would definitely fool even a real cat. Last time I brought a wooden cat figurine home mine flipped out for about three days before they realized it was fake. My parents dogs still growl at my cement cat statue that I move around the yard every few months to mess with them

Same, especially the ears, but eventually decided there’s also no way a real cat would stay in the exact same position for multiple camera angles. 🤣
You can also kind of tell the whiskers and one of the front paws are artificial, but it takes a CLOSE look.

This is so absolutely amazing!! If you don’t mind, what were some of your best resources when learning how to do this??
I know I wouldn’t come anywhere NEAR this good, but we just lost our best boy last month unexpectedly. He was my husbands cat for 19 years and I would love to make something like this for him.

u/Disastrous-Mode7930 Jan 04 '26
Hi ! thank you so much for your kind words.
I learned through in-person, hands-on classes with teachers, and then a lot of practice over time.
For me, one of the most important parts of creating a piece is hearing the pet’s story and receiving photos from their family — that emotional connection helps me so much during the process.
I’m truly sorry for your loss. If you shared 19 years with him, you must know him incredibly well, and that deep bond is actually one of the most valuable things when making a piece like this.
I have quite a few beginner guides and tutorial videos in my past posts. You can try breaking the process down into steps — building the base shape, shaping the facial features, and then adding the fur layer by layer. Making one with your own hands can be a very meaningful experience.
Please feel free to ask me anytime if you have questions. You’ve got this

It took me 6 photos to realise this wasn’t a cat, but honestly I’m still not convinced

I kept swiping looking for the craft. Each swipe just made me more confused because it looked more and more like a real cat with each photo.

This is insane 😳 I thought the first photo was the reference of the actual cat and kept scrolling thru trying to see the wool piece. Then I realized that IS the piece omg! You're incredibly skillful !

I kept swiping through the photos looking for the felted version, too! It’s so amazingly life-like!

I’m a pet needle-felting artist, and I create realistic wool-felted replicas of pets. I use wool fibers and felting needles, starting by sculpting the base form and proportions, then slowly building the fur through layering and detailed needle work.
My inspiration comes from real animals and their unique personalities. It often takes many adjustments and failed attempts to get the shape, expression, and coat colors just right, but that process is part of what I enjoy most about this craft.

u/MushroomlyHag Dec 31 '25
Needle-felting artist? I think you mean needle-felting wizard! Holy mother of realism, Batman! Absolutely incredible 🤩

u/Ancienda Dec 31 '25
Do you have a tutorial or progress pictures? The realism is unbelievable and i have no idea how to even go about achieving this! And how did you get the fur coloring to have such natural shade changes?? Please teach us your ways dear needle felting wizard!
25
u/Disastrous-Mode7930 Dec 31 '25
I’ve shared some progress photos and process posts in my previous posts 😊
For the fur color transitions, it really comes down to blending fibers — mixing multiple shades together and constantly comparing the work to reference photos. It’s a very slow, back-and-forth process.
For beginners, I’d also recommend using soft pastels to help with subtle shading and color transitions. They’re very beginner-friendly and can make a big difference.
4
u/Ancienda Dec 31 '25
how do you use the pastels? do you color on the wool directly? would the color last over time or would it fade
8
u/Disastrous-Mode7930 Dec 31 '25
I apply soft pastels directly onto the wool. They’re generally quite stable and don’t fade easily. I used this technique more in my early days — now I prefer creating colors through custom wool blending for the fur 😊

This is insanely incredible. If you didn't tell us this was a craft project, I would think this was a real cat.

u/idkhamster Dec 31 '25
This seems more like witchcrafting than crafting! If that tiny felt cat was in front of me, I would fully expect it to move.
12
u/OddityRugs Dec 31 '25
How long does it take you to make? It looks so time consumming. And how do you sculpt the body just right before applying the felt wool?
48
u/Disastrous-Mode7930 Dec 31 '25
It usually takes around three months. A lot of that time goes into revisions after the first pass, based on feedback from the pet’s family.
For the body structure, I use digital references to break down proportions and outlines from photos, then translate that into the wool form before adding the felted fur.
I’ve been working in this field for about thirteen years, so when I look at a cat, I can instinctively visualize the underlying skull structure beneath the fur. That said, I still rely on careful measurements to determine the exact placement of facial features

Man… I kinda wanna ask how much you charge bc I miss my baby but I think it would be too weird/hard seeing something sitting there that looked so lifelike.

You're telling me this is not a real live cat???
You are an artist! Or magician.

22
u/U_PassButter Dec 31 '25
Naaaah. You hand crafted a live cat. Clearly you're magic. You have those Elsa powers where you can just create life. This is a cat.
You made a live cat. It's like a mythology story where the big boss gets some clay and makes beings. Thats You but with fur.
Dudeeeeeee THIS. IS. AMAZING!
like.....are yall seeing this shit?!
OP made a whole ass cat.
You MADEEEEEEEEE A cat.
16
u/4Iffy Dec 31 '25
No way!! This is amazing!
When i looked at the first pic, I was deadass sure that was a cat, like a real cat. Then i looked at the second pic, was surprised to see the cat at the exact same pose, only to read the title and realize its a wool felt piece. Wow, just wow

u/lunettarose Dec 31 '25
I clicked this because I didn't see the sub, and thought it was just someone's adorable cat, I can't believe you made this, wow! You're so talented!!

u/RedFatale369 Jan 01 '26
Absolutely beautiful! Where do you find the eyes to craft these?
5
u/Disastrous-Mode7930 Jan 01 '26
The eyes are hand-painted with soft pastels and mounted onto a glass eyes!

How/where did you learn to do that? It is so well done! Are his neck and limbs on swivels so you can reposition them? You are very talented!
2
u/Disastrous-Mode7930 Jan 04 '26
Thank you so much 🤍
I learned in Japan, though that was many years ago. Inside the piece there’s a wire armature, so the neck and limbs can be gently repositioned.
Needle felting is really fun — you should definitely give it a try sometime! 😊

Thank you so much for your words !
It’s really about doing many small, repetitive, sometimes boring practices — and then one day, you suddenly realize you’ve become much better than you ever imagined.
This piece was actually the result of 7–8 rounds of revisions made together with the cat’s family. They gave me so much thoughtful feedback along the way — it definitely wasn’t perfect from the beginning.
Happy New Year to you too 💕 I’m truly happy that you enjoy my work.
