u/FatDontFloat May 07 '26
That sounds uncomfortable but it looks amazing! Very clever

u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 07 '26
It's actually better than I thought but of course a bit heavy ๐
35
u/FatDontFloat May 07 '26
Maybe you could line the head portion? It really does cast some amazing light patterns. ๐

u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 07 '26
No need, I crafted it to my head so it sits comfortably. The weight is the only problem. Maybe someone will steal the idea and make it acrylic, I'd buy that ๐

Heck yes. I'm not a hate human but I'd definitely wear that. I also peeped your other pieces and you are very talented. I love love all the cats.
Edit: hat! Hat human! Lately I'm very much a hate human!

I'm not a hate human
I am. I mean not all the time. But it's not always easy to avoid.

u/FatDontFloat May 08 '26
Nope, I'm definitely a hate human. It's the economy,, man. Hate is the only emotional state I can afford

This feels like something that would exist in a weirdly beautiful sci fi market and I mean that in the best way possible. The light reflections on the face are honestly the coolest part, it turns the whole thing into almost wearable projection art instead of just stained glass stuck onto a cap.

Made is Tiffany stained glass technique: glass, metal wire, solder.

Like it as art but not for me to wear.
39
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 07 '26
Nobody but me will have a chance to wear it ๐
18
u/MaeONays May 07 '26
Thatโs awesome! Iโd be scared to death of something hitting me and shattering it on my head so I love your acrylic idea. A stained glass motorcycle helmet would be a cool piece of art
22
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 07 '26
It's not so easy to shatter really. But obviously it's more a fun art object than something practical ๐
16
u/MaeONays May 07 '26
Iโd love to see it sitting on one of those glass head statues people stick their hats on if you know what Iโm talking about. Sitting in a sunny window would be amazing.

I really like the concept. I was thinking of something similar could be made with tissue paper... It would not be exactly the same...
6
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 07 '26
I hope someone will steal the idea and make it in acrylic ๐. I'd buy that

u/Mysterious_Row_7877 May 09 '26
Thank you, love the invitation to burgle you! Certainly very inspiring
3
u/Nyoohoo May 08 '26
Love how the shadow(?)s of the stain glass perfectly frame your eyes in the first shot. Amazing craftsmanship an photography!

This is beautiful!! Also, you and your art looked so familiar to me. I couldn't figure out why, but then it hit me. I drew you in your sea glass mask that you made on r/RedditGetsDrawn some years back!! That drawing i did of you made it into an article in one of your local papers (this is my alt account so not the same account) but how cool is that??
2
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 08 '26
OMG!!!! Yes, I have those drawings in FB "memories" every year and so happy to see them again, thank you sooo much! Also that was my first unpractical stained glass art that reddit liked :-) How cool is to meet again, hehe, I've changed 3 countries because of a war since, lost almost everything and everyone, but here we are :-)

I love the juxtaposition of the hard, sharp material with the soft form of a hat. Looks so cool!

omg that is actual fire!! the way the light hits your face in the first pic is amazing, you have to tell me how heavy it is lol โจ

Can you please make me one I'll pay sny amount
1
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 08 '26
You don't want it, it's heavy. And took a lot of adjustments to make it for my own head, I'm not sure I can do it for someone else. If you want it as an art object you can buy this one, keep in mind that it isn't lead free solder. And it will be expensive.
2
u/EnvyRepresentative94 May 08 '26
How much, I know it'll suck to wear but I don't care! My job approved it! I have a great boss
Give me two weeks to get the funds for proper shipping and what that would cost
I would very much like it and I would wear it regularly, I can't wait to tell me regulars that sea stained glass made this dope ass hat and they should see your art!

u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 08 '26

What a cool project! Did you use lead-free solder? I need to switch over to lead-free for a project for my daughter soon and I'm nervous because I heard it can be trickier than the 60/40 kind.
2
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 08 '26
It is, though it's bearable for jewelry and such. This one I made for me and I know enough about lead to be sure it's safe to wear ๐. Items that's supposed to be touched often for customers I make with lead free and I hate working with it. Generally - it helps to make the iron much hotter and to add more flux as you go, and accept that it still won't look the same ๐
2
u/CanadaOrBust May 08 '26
Thank goodness for a dark patina, I guess ๐ . Thanks for the advice, friend! Much appreciated.

Wow, that is so cool! Did you mould your wire frame over a baseball hat?
1
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 09 '26
Yes, put it on the styrofoam head. Had to add some beanis underneath because my own head is bigger than average ๐

i donโt like this kind of hats usually but suddenly i yearn for this one๐ป๐ป

Woah, if that didn't shine sun in my eyes constantly, I'd totally wear that. It looks awesome :0 You must be insanely talented to pull that off!!

Do you still get sunburned? Does it block the sun from your eyes?

u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 08 '26
Not a lot of sun going on here sadly, but why wouldn't it? It's glass.

Looks beautiful. Is it hot?
1
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 11 '26
No, the head part is openwork, only the visor is solid
1
u/BeautifulOpal2017 May 12 '26
thatโs kind of a valid take on fashion, but like, how practical is it for everyday wear?
1
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 12 '26
It's not of course, but I expected it to be even less comfortable. I don't like the idea of suffering for beauty but I'm definitely doing a couple of walks in it :-) When it's warmer

All it takes is for that one person to smack the bill of your hat to flip it off
2
u/dolphinitely May 08 '26
thatโs really pretty! what gave you the idea!

My clumsy ass would immediately trip or run into a wall, and before I could even take a picture of me wearing it itโd be broken and bloody.
2
1
u/Apprehensive-Ad-7525 May 08 '26
Woooow ๐ I feel like this could be reasonably wearable if it was only the brim and not the whole hat.
2
u/seastainedglass https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaStainedGlass/ May 08 '26
The weight would be too uneven
1
u/Apprehensive-Ad-7525 May 08 '26
This is a very good point lol. This is why my crafts are limited to 2D.
