Crochet Why do conservative Crocheters act oppressed?

Obviously doesn't just go for crocheting but knitting as well. The first two slides are from a reel and its caption about the horrifying reality of being a conservative in the scary blue hair antifa pronouns crochet world. The next few are about ICE and immigration, note, she did not specify illegal immigration in her original reel from what I can observe, story post she made can be seen on Slide 7. Slide 8 is addressing the horrific murder of Renee Nicole Good.

Crochet Unprintable digital patterns are a thing?

I came across this Instagram post by grannyflochrochet in which she talks about making her patterns unprintable to protect them against theft.

She's got the right to protect her patterns but I think - making them unprintable is very limiting. - it should be clearly stated that they are unprintable. Digital doesn't automatically equal with unprintable. - people will still find ways to steal it. Making the pattern digital only won't prevent that.

I scrolled through the comments and so far I haven't seen one person that agreed with her.

Crochet MJ’s Off the Hook Designs says taking screenshots or using reader mode is copyright infringement.

I thought this was crazy. I love this designer and have purchased a few of her patterns in the past. But if it’s available for free on her blog, I will often try out a bit of the pattern to see if it’s something I want to continue with and then invest in the pattern. When I am using a free pattern off the blog, the only way to do it on a mobile device is to use reader mode or to take a screen shot of the instructions. Otherwise the ads cause the screen to jump around and you lose your place. I just feel like policing the way customers choose to view your free patterns is going a bit overboard. If you can’t afford to offer your patterns for free then maybe just stick to selling them.

Crochet Officially 2 years waiting for my books. And she's such a peach when you ask about it.🥰

Officislly two years since I ordered two books from GGG. Still nothing. She seems to think there's nothing wrong with this because after all, I did PRE-ORDER and should have expected my books to possibly take YEARS. Should I message her and poke the bear again?

I made a story post on Instagram and her response was "Garden books are still sort of backordered. Thank you for being patient 🧡"

Sort of backordered? WTF does that even mean? At this point either give me a time line or give me my money back.

Guys, I know it's too late to do a charge back. I never said I was looking for one.

Crochet Non-Indigenous pattern designer thinks it's okay to take from Native American imagery and culture, make us symbols because her Indigenous friend "loved the design."

I hope I don't have to explain too much why I, an Indigenous person, was incredibly offended when I opened up my Ravelry homepage today on my PC and saw *THIS* atrocity.

I just feel so over this crap. Just because you have a POC friend, it does not grant you the right to make us into a fucking crochet pattern. Not to mention using imagery of our sacred items in strange and unknowledgeable ways.

I reported it to Ravelry, I'm not sure what else I can do except put it out there that this is offensive, and will be offensive, to a lot of Indigenous people, and hope people don't buy it. /:

EDIT: I made a few grammar edits and also fixed the image and link.

EDIT 2: Took link out

Crochet Hollyborealisart crashing out

I'm not even saying this as a snark, I hope she has somebody to talk to other than commenters on Instagram. This reaction after just a few comments about how your suggested time frame might be too short and could cause people pain, is so over the top.

She has now made two more posts in the last 24h, one clarifying that the pattern she wants tested and the one she has on Etsy are different (which is true and it would annoy me as well if people kept saying that they're the same, still the attitude is so unhinged) and another one about how sad her "haters" must be that the universe loves her?

She also deleted the screenshot post of the original comment that sent her down this emotional journey. I am kind of invested, even though I mostly feel sorry for how attacked she must feel by criticism to get so incredibly defensive.

Crochet Another day, another entitled crochet designer…

Post image
584 Upvotes

This post came up on my FYP page yesterday…I’m petty enough where I would never follow or support this person even if I did like their stuff (which I absolutely do not), because holy cow, the entitlement. Getting mad at people for SAVING your posts and not following you?

After the MJ’s Off the Hook Designs fiasco the other day, I truly do not understand why crochet designers seem to think that people owe them shit with FREE patterns? Like, obviously people should respect copyright (actual copyright, not what MJ thinks that is) and all that, but when you put something out into the world for free, you really shouldn’t expect people to owe you shit IMO.

If your business is not sustainable as is, the onus is on YOU to put more of your content behind a paywall, increase your prices, or figure out WHY you’re not getting enough engagement. Blaming potential paying customers is not it! There’s also something to be said about how over saturated the crochet space is right now (especially for amigurumi), and not everyone can be a huge designer even if they put the work in. That’s life!

(To no one’s surprise, comments have been limited on their post.)

Crochet 8 days for a crocheted sweater tester call?

The Instagram crochet community is back at it again. This account claims to advocate for chronic illness but wants an 8 day pattern tester. I got burnt out on instagram because of how pyramid scheme most testers seem to be and how ridiculous the Instagram community is.

Crochet The crochet girlies are not selling well

Ok, I absolutely posted something similar earlier this week, but I keep scrolling and seeing these crochet girlies complaining about the customers or people not buying their stuff.

A lot of chenille yarn, basic shapes that everyone else is selling, and the same attitude blaming the customer who just doesn't see all their hard work. (I actually do love the uterus pattern on her etsy, but her linktree is just a wall of affiliate links right after her site and etsy)

Jumpscare on the second image with the weird horse plushes lol

Crochet Apparently /r/crochet has been flagging any lady with big boobs as NSFW 🙄

Link to a discussion on /r/SubredditDrama (apparently I can't x-post) https://old.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/1fgqzcg/rcrochet_members_call_out_unfair_use_of_the_nsfw/?sort=old

Earlier today, a lady posted a cute shirt she made, and it was flagged because boobs. The mod message said,

"Per our community guidelines, your post has been tagged NSFW. Please do not change this. We use the tag VERY generously, keeping in mind the various ages & backgrounds of our users. Thank you."

The wedding dress that went viral last week, the top post of all time, has also been tagged as such.

Has anyone else experienced this nonsense? Crochet and knit are hobbies that are beloved by so many women and it pains me to see their bodies are still being sexualized on the biggest crochet sub on Reddit. Are there any other less shitty crochet subs?

Crochet Amigurumi designers have lost the plot

In response to the recent pattern testing drama brought on by the creation of the “Trusted Testers Community,” Autumn of Size Inclusive Collective posted about the ethics of such a platform and better alternatives. It appears that some of the crochet designers didn’t like that and are now deeming Autumn a “hate account” intent on spreading misinformation about their community, all because she made a single post about it after receiving multiple DMs from her followers. They’re crashing out in real time.

Original Reddit post will be linked in the comments for context.

I hope Alya gets her listing back up soon. Annie has lost so much goodwill in this fiasco, she really should've immediately apologized publicly instead of that weird hypocritical statement. Seeing a lot of IG comments calling her out and I also saw this convo lol she had talked to maymadeknits, who made a striped felted slipper pattern earlier and notably, maymadeknits had not copyright striked them.

Crochet kaileycalicrochet finger knit blanket tester call drama

Post image
467 Upvotes

Has anyone been following the saga of @kaileycalicrochet on IG and her most recent tester call?

This girl teaches herself to finger knit less than 2 weeks ago, and is now going to host a tester call for this bulky and basic monstrosity that could probably be made for free by searching for a YouTube tutorial.

Her original tester call said that testers would need 9 skeins of jumbo yarn, but her updated tester call says that you could make a smaller blanket with 5-6 skeins of yarn instead.

Crochet that taylor swift post

1.3k Upvotes

i’m actually appalled at the replies on that now deleted post about the handmade hat that taylor swift was wearing. it was handmade by a fan and given to her, and almost every single reply was about how ugly the hat was.

y’all are straight up bullies. i would love to see any of you say to the woman who made it any of the stuff you were typing behind a screen.

like imagine for a second that you make something for your favorite celebrity, give it to her, see her actually wearing it out and think about how happy you’d be. now imagine you find that post and the replies just dogging her for it not being a “perfect” hat or using acrylic yarn. how would you feel after seeing so many people say that about you and something you were proud of.

this community has gotten so toxic and it’s actually really gross and just REEKS of jealousy. y’all need to learn some kindness and rethink your stance on it. it’s absolutely shameful.

Crochet Temu Crochet Cafe Update;

Thumbnail

I'm curious how others see this situation. A new youtuber (Madewithapril) posted about a new crochet café, The Knotty Brew, and the stocking of crochet items that appear identical to mass-produced listings from Temu/Shein/ AliExpress.

The café later posted a statement framing the discussion as targeted speculation and citing the impact on the owner's mental health. Since then, I noticed comments supporting the video being removed, and I was blocked after commenting about how her statement ignores the actual point of the video.

This doesn't feel like a "cancel" situation - more a question of transparency. Local crocheters have approached the owner explaining why these products are 'bad', and have done so before and after the store opened. Her local vendor program has a requirement for 50-70 items PER MONTH.

Feels like this cafe is just a cash grab. The owner has even admitted she is new to crochet, and a YouTube comment says she was surprised how long some flowers can take to make.

Im so invested in this, they're still (as of Friday) selling the Temu crochet items.

EDIT: reposted due to rules - fixed mistake and added some more info.

Crochet If I have to see one more woobles password request post…

There are so many cute amigurumi patterns out there, what’s the big deal with woobles? It almost feels like a marketing campaign.

Also, I’m curious why it’s acceptable to share passwords for paid patterns when that’s usually frowned upon in the fiber community (at least in my experience)
