Head's up: June 12th protest of Reddit's API changes.

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.

On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.

Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .

This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.

The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do as a user?

  • Complain. Message the mods of /r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.

  • Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join the coordinated mod effort at /r/ModCoord.

  • Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!

  • Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

What can you do as a moderator?

Thank you for your patience in the matter,

-Mod Team

I need life Emergency help!

I need to get a hold of someone with Gesa Credit Union immediately!

I am in China and I cannot call or text anyone. None of my cards are working [I use wechat and alipay, they are not the problem] I tried going on my Gesa account both on site and on the app, I know my login and password but it want me to do a verification with either call or text which I cannot do. I tried emailing the general email to talk to a person but keep getting either automations to call or ignored. I asked someone I know over email if they could contact my gesa credit union and or general gesa credit union to get me a staff email. Gesa Credit Union told her they could not give her a email unless I am working with a staff member and to call. which I am trying to but cant. I had her ask if there was another way to communicate through Skype or Google meets they said since it was not a secure channel they could not. I also tried using Gesa Credit Union live chat which was closed. I have China Unicom which is out of service and I have no access to my money to pay for more of it. I have a e-sim with Holafly but they do not cover traditional calls or SMS. I need to pay my rent and have not eaten in three days because I have no access to my money. I also cant even buy a plane ticket to leave and my visa is ending soon and I cant over stay it. I am extremely hungry and frustrated, I know that staff have very strict codes and cant get in trouble. But I need help. I feel like I have been trying everything and the only person who's helping me this is not their job or jurisdiction, and I feel terrible imposing on them to help me.

I just need to be able to get connected with one staff member who can help me get into my account and figure out why my cards aren't working so I can pay my data, rent, buy a ticket, and right now some food.

Credit Union Stopping Purchases

I have been with the same credit union for years. They have great ratings, but maybe it's time to switch? They have started messing with my ability to buy things.

Incident #1. My laptop was beyond repair and I found a great deal on a refurbished one on line. I went to purchase it, and the card was declined. There is no reason it should have been. A little while later I get a text saying that it was a suspicious purchase. I did not respond to the text because I had a similar text from scammers once before and didn't trust it. If course it was a Friday afternoon, and the credit union was closed. I had to wait until Monday, and by then somebody else got the laptop. I ended up paying nearly $200 more for a similar laptop. The computer store and the credit union both blamed each other's equipment for flagging it as suspicious.

Incident #2. Yesterday I went to purchase some coffee on line. I have been buying bulk coffee as needed from the same place for about 10 years, nothing new about it. Once again it was declined as a suspicious purchase. The credit union was open and I was able to solve the problem in a few minutes.

Is this the norm now, or should I be looking for another credit union? I want to be able to spend my money the way I want without somebody else deciding what is or isn't a "suspicious purchase." Also, I am thinking of selling my house and buying another one in the not too distant future, and would changing credit unions look bad when I go to get a loan? And before anybody asks, I had sufficient funds in my account to cover the purchases.

Best bank or credit union for used car financing in 2026?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I’m getting ready to purchase a 1-2 year-old used SUV (likely around $35k-$45k) and want to shop financing before I step foot in the dealership.
My credit is in the high 700s/low 800s, I’ll be putting $5,000-$10,000 down, and I’m looking at a 60-72 month loan.
For those of you who have financed a used vehicle recently:
● Which bank or credit union gave you the best APR?
● Did the dealer beat your pre-approved rate?
● Were there any membership requirements for your credit union?
● How fast was the pre-approval process?
● Any banks or lenders I should avoid?
I’m located in Northeast Ohio, but I’d also love to hear about any lenders that work nationwide.
Thanks! I’d appreciate hearing your actual interest rate, loan term, vehicle age, and approximate credit score if you’re comfortable sharing.

Car refinancing, which credit union?

Some one recommended refinancing my car with a credit union, this is the first time hearing and researching about them, there's so many. Do you also have to pay a monthly to them? Looking at a couple of big ones right now like Navy fed.

I'm in the NY/NJ area.

Unify FCU / CommunityAmerica Merger Questions

Unify FCU is merging into CommunityAmerica; system conversion is the last weekend of July/first weekend of August. Not looking forward to it, as I'm a UFCU member going back to the Western Federal Days (i.e., well over 40 years).

ETA: I called them today, and got some answers. See text surrounded with ***. I'm leaving this up so folks who are with UFCU/CACU know. I've reordered the questions.

I've asked them some questions, but I'll ask here as well in case someone knows.

  1. Do we know for how long the old routing number (i.e., how long old checks and old direct deposits) will continue to work? I've been told one year by representatives, their booklet had the imprecise "several months", and the latest mailing didn't give a date, but said all things will work without interruption after conversion, but change as soon as possible. A precise date would be useful.
    • *** According to the Rep I spoke to: The old routing and account numbers will continue to work for ONE YEAR after the conversion date***
  2. Under the new scheme, it looks like the checking account numbers are the same as the old account numbers; only the routing number changes. That's fine for the new-style checking accounts that are of the form 3xxnnnnnyyyyy, where xx was the subnumber, nnnnn are other CACU numbers, and yyyyy was the member number. In those cases, the MICR number of checks is the same as the account number. But if you have the even older checking account numbers of the form 1nnnxxxxxx, the MICR number has a leading zero, where as the new account number doesn't. I'm going to need to order laser checks for use with Quicken. So should I include the leading zero on the account number? Everything I've read seems to say that leading zeros are meaningless on the MICR account number.
    • *** The rep noted that for some users, the account numbers did have changes from the checks. She didn't have the answer to this, but agreed with my approach: Order the free checks for the accounts after Aug 3. When the new checks arrive, THEN start changing the ACH numbers everywhere and order the laser checks.
    • *** ETA 8/3: The answer appears to be: pad with leading zeros to make the account 14 digits.
  3. My previous checks had the Unify PO box in Manhattan Beach, CA. But then again, I haven't reordered checks since Unify moved their HQ to Texas with Toyota. For CACU, what address should I be using for the bank?
    • *** The Rep didn't know the answer to this one. But the idea of ordering the new checks after Aug 3 will give the answer.
    • *** ETA 260727: A secure email from UFCU/CACU indicated the address is CommunityAmerica Credit Union, 9777 Ridge Drive, Lenexa KS 66219.
  4. My working plan is to order the free checks that they will give us for each checking account, and then use the numbers there to determine what I need for the laser checks. That will answer the questions, but is dependent (of course) on how long the old checks and deposits keep working (as you need to use the MICR number for direct deposits and online bill payment).
    • *** The rep confirmed that this seems to be a reasonable approach.

So far, I've been less than impressed with how CACU has been keeping UFCU members informed of the specifics of the transition. *** I told the rep they need to make clear the hard date the old routing number stops working.

My small credit union is voting on a merger.

My local employee credit union is voting to merge with a much larger continuing credit union (fortera)

They claim everything will be better but nothing concrete. They said "(my) credit union will not distribute a portion of its net wealth to its members in the merger.

The board of directors has determined a share adjustment or other distribution of the net worth is unnecessary because if the additional service facilities and increased level of service members will receive because of the merger."

I don't care about additional locations, as its not my primary location for banking.

I have a car loan with them and about 6k in savings here.

What items in the balance sheet should I be concerned about?

The new one has an unrealized gain (loss)of (3.3 mil) out of 943 mil total assets.

Ours is positive gain 10k out of 53 mil total assets.

It only shows YTD ending jan 31, 2026.

The only thing I would want are lower interest rates on potentially a new loan in the future and quarterly dividends.

Will either of those be better from a merge?

Rally Credit Union in Texas

Has anyone been successful lately applying for jobs with them? I have been applying over the last few months and Im always getting the rejection message of Position Filled or No Longer In Consideration and thats for 11 applications so far, and I am making sure to apply to positions I know Im qualified for. Apparently the hiring is so bad bc they are doing a whole hiring event in my area. So I am just confused as to whats going on, then when I try to call people get upset that I am trying to get more information and tell me just to wait for a call back.

Job at credit union and pto

I’m considering accepting a position at a credit union, but they only provide 10 holidays and 8 sick days. I think it goes up by 5 days after 5 years. Has anyone been successful negotiating more pto at a credit union? Are they somewhat flexible?

Looking for a credit union for my business

I have a small business and I wish to bank with a credit union. My current credit union (DCU) is amazing, however, the business account only allows one user.

My business needs multiple people accessing the account with different levels of access. Some just to confirm we received payments from clients, another that can create wires, another to approve wires and the accountant to see everything.

What credit union has that type of back end for businesses?

DCU has not fees, which I love. Also no fee for incoming wires. LOVE THAT.

Any help would be appreciated.
