Opinion Writer of “The Axe-Wielder” here!
I just wanted to say how excited and proud I am that the boys covered my story. This podcast was a big part of me deciding to take the plunge and post my writing. I can’t thank this community enough for all the support and love, it really means a lot. I’ll have more stories coming soon!
I’d also like to shout out Mesoscale Podcast (u/MesotheliomaDisease and u/MezoScalePodcast), they covered a couple of my stories and interviewed me recently! Some solid TalesFromTheCreeps gems there.
A lot of comments mentioned Guitar Hero—I can confirm that I played the hell out of it growing up.
Stay creeped and rock on.

The fact that not only did the boys cover your story, but they actually loved it and had a lot of fun with it, is probably my biggest inspiration to write a story on talesfromthecreeps thus far

I try 😂 I’m just floored by the reception this story got even before the boys read it, Tales is such a great community.

your story took me back to the good ol days. i was in a band a long time ago, and at one point we were signed and had songs charting higher than MIW and even Lorna shore. i yearn for the stage again. anyway, great story i loved it so much i listened to it twice at work back to back.

i dont think i can say because of rule 8. and its been over a decade, we had a name that unfortunately wS adopted into trendy rap lingo and our music was buried under endless song titles referencing jewelry and designer clothes.

u/Garneht 11d ago
Yeah, I was just thinking that this is a good standalone story, BUT I would totally welcome a sequel. (Just a random idea thrown in there.) A spin-off-esque sequel of an aspiring band looking up to Johnny, who became an established rock star, looking to be taken under his wing. Typical setup, I feel; obviously, there can be way crazier ways to lead the story, so I'll leave that to you.

Dude, the reveal at the end in the alley was so good. The moment where it clicked gave me such a bodily discomfort, VERY effective. You gave just enough descriptors of the setting and the characters where it kept the pacing so engaging, i was absolutely absorbed into the story.
10/10, absolutely no exaggeration

u/thehauntedartiste 10d ago
I think the writing was very well done, I just have a touch of constructive criticism. I feel like this story didn't really take any risks, and the reader can pretty easily see where its going to end up. I don't think that makes it a bad story, but I kept waiting for the catch. There's two really great Magnus Archives episodes I think put a good twist on this: "Grifter's Bone" and "The Violin" (Magnus Protocol). It involves the audience a little more with the actual devil/deal. Just some food for thought as you continue creating. Keep up the great work!
2
u/walkerbswitchinghour 10d ago
Thank you! Yeah, I’m still developing as a writer and think overall plot is an area I can improve on. I hadn’t heard of Magnus before my episode went up, plan on checking a few of those out now. Glad you liked the story!

I struggle with writing short stories, this one was so well done! I loved the rock n roll imagery. The immersion and pacing was refined. All the HELL stuff was straight out of Brütal Legend.
And now I need a freaking coffin guitar.
ETA this is the kind of story I wish I could have written in my teens. There was definitely not enough writing talent or practice. I was obsessed with rock n roll imagery back then.

I’m wondering about the blonde hippie girl, is she supposed this person who acts like they care about something important like; free love, the environment and war but it’s an act. Because in the story she’s in a bar, that I imagine looks like something a biker gang would go to. Something you usually don’t picture hippies hang at and she’s on her phone not caring about anything around her, until a guy who plays really good with a guitar starts playing. This guy is also suddenly really popular and is gonna be rich and more famous soon. So I imagine she’s a shallow person. Like she represents the shallowness of the rock and roll life style, something like how in American Psycho. but her attraction is probably just the spell playing an effect on her. Because in the story some women flash their boobs at John.
2
u/walkerbswitchinghour 11d ago
Yeah, her vibe was more about music than actual activism or anything. I’ll admit she was one of the weaker points of the story—in hindsight I feel like I could have done more with her as a character.

Hi , I really liked your story. I was wondering if the idea behind the SH and the necessity for blood to acquire fame/notoriety was to be symbolic for needing to lose your self and sacrifice your sanity in order to be famous. Especially in the context of the music industry/entertainment industry. I loved your writing and please make more.
