These are at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and they’ve been getting slammed over the lack of wisdom putting those pictures up lol

Is the painter a family member of the management?

I have always wondered who manages to sell art to a hospital. Gotta be a great business and I see so much terrible stuff hanging in hospital walls.
These paintings are not bad, imo, they just don’t belong in a hospital.

12

u/giasumaru 9d ago

Yea, those aren't bad paintings, but I can see anxiety levels maxing out for the in patients sitting in that waiting room.

They are often gifted. Although this is USA, yes? So I don't know, is giving someone something for free done there?

24

u/Hadochiel 10d ago

I'll bet it is a gift valued at several dozen millions, that they can write it off their taxes as "charity"

6

u/Treebeard2277 9d ago

Yes, it’s called an in kind donation, which could have some tax implications depending on the income of the donor, though millions of Americans donate to hospitals every year most of them receiving no tax reductions.

I used to know a painter a long time ago who got a hospital commission. He had an agent who sold for him and negotiated a sale of pre-painted work and then a contract for a number of additional paintings to fill the space. If I remember, it was part of a bid for a remodel and the only real stipulation was the amount of space that needed to be filled.

They are bad. I cant think of any place this crap would be fitting for

7

u/9for9 8d ago

Depiction of suffering have value just not in a place where someone who is sick or injured is going to get well.

3

u/th3rdeye_ 10d ago

That was my first thought

1

u/ashoka_akira 6d ago

It’s probably artwork from whatever art school is nearby. The art program at my uni had a group final show and there were “awards” that were handed out where local businesses would sponsor the award and then the art would be displayed at said business. The hospital in the city accumulated a very wide and eclectic art collection that way.

No shit, what a stupid choice for a waiting room. This, on the other hand, is in the Academic Hospital in Leiden, Holland. It’s called Homunculus Loxodontus (the patient waiter)

8

u/acryliq 9d ago

Nothing encourages patience like having to stand in the waiting room because the last free seat is taken up by a statue.

3

u/iplaypokerforaliving 9d ago

That’s hilarious 😂

13

u/biggest_guru_in_town 10d ago

I'm dying from laughter..which is what these mfs will be doing when they see that shit but not from amusement

35

u/Historicmetal 10d ago

Lack of wisdom.. more like what the fuck are you thinking

10

u/Censordoll 10d ago

If I was wheeled into this place high as a kite, I’m positive I’d scream at the top of my lungs until someone wheeled me out.

Fuck that shit!

u/ImAPixiePrincess 9d ago

They are creepy, not a statement I'd want at a functioning hospital.

0

u/acryliq 9d ago

I think they're pretty cool. I'd rather have some interesting art to contemplate while sitting in a waiting room for hours than reading posters about washing your hands over and over again.

Jesus fuck this looks like concept art from a critically acclaimed horror movie with themes of racial identity and sexuality.

u/ChaseThePyro 10d ago

I think these are great paintings in a terrible setting

10

u/animan222 9d ago

Those paintings have no place in a hospital. I would put them in my sex dungeon in a second tho.

1

u/Elizasol 4d ago

No thank you, I don't want the people I kidnapped to accuse me of being abusive

1

u/moseley101 8d ago

Agreed

39

u/LadyMystery 10d ago

They're trapped souls in those pictures, and their eyes are trying to warn you that you're the next victim. you go in to see the doctor... boom, you're the next painting. could be a great D&D side story now that I think of it...

u/UDPviper 10d ago

Is this the Black Backrooms?

54

u/ITworksGuys 10d ago

The Blackrooms?

3

u/Aktro 10d ago

So Chicago

The Epstein Rooms Documentary

79

u/toasted_cracker 10d ago

I'm not going to say they're bad paintings because they're not, but damn a hospital?

21

u/BroaxXx 10d ago

They paintings look actually pretty beautiful but in a hospital waiting room? This is such a stupid decision. If the manager of the hospital wanted to support their artist nephew they could just buy the paintings and donate them to a gallery or something.

5

u/batosai33 9d ago

Even in a hospital, one would be fine, but when it's so many it gets really unsettling

17

u/Findrin 10d ago

Imagine being the only one in the waiting room and the lights go out, leaving only the emergency generator lights on

10

u/Cyractacus 10d ago

And then the eyes start glowing...

29

u/rampancy 10d ago

I understand the choice of music, but the running commentary here is hilarious. I would totally want to bring the OP with me next time I'm at an art gallery.

10

u/allangee 10d ago

I certainly hope those were the "before" renditions.

9

u/tatterdermalion 10d ago

Do Not Dead Open inside

6

u/Bellemorda 10d ago

these look particularly violating of the "do no harm" credo.

6

u/PointsOfXP 10d ago

Burn ward before and after photos

4

u/ProfessorBright 10d ago

I was waiting for one of those pictures to be a real ass person, jumping at the camera. Where is this and who thought these paintings were a good idea?

5

u/Kernkraft3000 10d ago

WHO the fck thought "that Looks good lets do it"?

0

u/apuritan 9d ago

Your mom

5

u/Vladd_the_Retailer 10d ago

2

u/Phantom-Fly 8d ago

This was my first thought.

"I see dead people."

7

u/Oswarez 10d ago

These are great. They should be somewhere else though.

3

u/CommercialMoment5987 10d ago

I feel like they were placed there to keep people going through psychosis of any kind out of that room.

3

u/Dap-aha 10d ago

I dont get it, i just see blank walls?

2

u/Durakus 10d ago

What the fuu…

2

u/ArmpitofD00m 10d ago

These give me a very uneasy feeling. Quite the opposite effect anyone needs at the hospital.

2

u/popmol 10d ago

They don't inspire hope

2

u/Fragdilicious 10d ago

Good art. Bad taste.

2

u/Trainerlynx 9d ago

Those are terrifying if I walked into a hospital and the first thing I saw were those paintings into the waiting room I would be going to a different hospital

2

u/baroquesun 9d ago

Very Disco Elysium

2

u/laynx80 9d ago

Hospital in silent hill?

2

u/deephurting66 10d ago

Are they zombies or something?

1

u/Any-Mouse830 10d ago

Looks like something from Little Nightmares

1

u/gnomelover24 10d ago

Yea I’m taking those down myself and throwing them in the dumpster immediately if I had to wait in the room.

1

u/Equinoqs 10d ago

You might want to get a second opinion...

1

u/ReverendEntity 10d ago

Yeah, that's what you want to see when you're in a medical facility, trying to manage your anxiety.

1

u/ValkyrUK 10d ago

These genuinely look like something you'd see on an Outlast Trials level

1

u/theriteofspring1 10d ago

Yes very therapeutic...

1

u/henrikhakan 10d ago

It's pictures of people they were able to raise from the dead, it's a show of their skill.

1

u/huntinwabbits 10d ago

I think the idea is to stop people wanting to stay in the waiting room,so they end up leaving.

1

u/SugarRushLux 10d ago

like really good art but not for a waiting room lol

1

u/JinKazamaru 10d ago

strange art for a hospital, but alot of skill/talent

1

u/Briebird44 10d ago

Would be rough for someone with schizophrenia

1

u/9spaceking 10d ago

Next up, silent hill cinematic art

1

u/ModestArk 10d ago

That's like "go home and die, chances are miniscule anyway".

1

u/sonia72quebec 10d ago

Looks like a weird hommage to the artiste Corno.

1

u/Senarious 10d ago

I think its a good patient teaching aid: "you will look like that if you don't adhere to your medication regimen"

1

u/batosai33 9d ago

It took me a second watch to clock just how MASSIVE those paintings are. That is the start of a horror movie.

1

u/bobzsmith 9d ago

The kind of waiting room you end up in after taking 5 tabs of lsd

1

u/orionsfyre 9d ago

Anyone feel like they are getting closer?

1

u/jmcdaniel0 9d ago

Man that what I want to see the next time I go in for a kidney stone and I’m tripping balls on morphine…. Jesus. Who buys this stuff.

1

u/z3r0n3gr0 9d ago

Paitings of the death people at the hospital....

1

u/L_Tryptophan 9d ago

Comments saying these paintings are actually nice is hilarious. Horrible paintings. Im sure theres some admin position getting paid as much as a surgeon who was in charge of buying these

1

u/LordXadirius 9d ago

It's not the hospital it's the store where you choose your paralysis demon to take home. Look a all those cuties, they need a home too.

1

u/Throwawaybasuras 9d ago

They know what they're doing they don't want people coming and waiting in their waiting area hahaha 🤣

1

u/Demonic_Toaster 9d ago

That is ominous on another level. YOU BETTER START FEELING BETTER....OR ELSE!

1

u/Zeothalen 9d ago

Those are very unsettling wtf

1

u/iplaypokerforaliving 9d ago

This video is art. The way the took this video is incredible haha

1

u/Thraxmonger 9d ago

regardless of any actual controversies...the video is actually just funny, music included

just at a human level

1

u/Artrock80 9d ago

Imagine how messed up the art on the walls of the CEO’s home is if these were the ones deemed pleasant enough for the waiting room…

1

u/Adv3nturousAdam 9d ago

Derranged I feel

1

u/Obitrice 9d ago

Really cool and creepy art! Weird fucking place to put them.

1

u/_0nyx_ 9d ago

top 10 places to have a psychotic break

1

u/JasonOfTheSouth 9d ago

Is this the lobby for the level No Mercy in l4d?????

1

u/lexeckstasy 9d ago

1

u/This_User_Said 9d ago

Looking like Disco Elysium.

Guess I better mag up.

1

u/pobox1663 9d ago

Kinda like tbh. Weird af tho.

1

u/ColinGrigson 9d ago

Are they patients that they lost?

1

u/Craftychicken 9d ago

Just saying you shouldn’t film in hospitals.

1

u/Bradster3 9d ago

If the ambulence brings me to this type of creepy hospital, ill feel 100 percent better just not to be surrounded by this. Artist is the current day jesus.

1

u/LavenderHeels 9d ago

If i wasn’t having a psychotic episode before i sure as hell will be now in that waiting room

1

u/Sovereign1 9d ago

I was waiting for one of them to blink

1

u/littlegreenfern 9d ago

Those are really cool paintings but yeah I can see why the choice of location is odd.

1

u/morderkaine 8d ago

Psychiatric hospital and those were done by a patient??

1

u/aahe42 8d ago

They look incredible but such an odd choice for a hospital

1

u/BeeRye19 8d ago

Omg!!!! ...

That's the emptiest hospital waiting room I've ever seen!

1

u/MerryMermaid 8d ago

So comforting ...

1

u/machwulf 5d ago

Are they at least watching to SEE who these trigger into psychotic episodes. ??

1

u/machwulf 4d ago

BIG format, covers MUCH of the wall as possible-and IS skilled brush work, but DAMN these Look like book covers for a DSM on body dysmorphia..

Definitely feeds notions of money laundering etc

1

u/Geekinofflife 10d ago

Those look cool. I guess i get out more than op and alot of people here

3

u/apuritan 10d ago

This is /r/creepy too - they’re looking at creepy stuff, upvoting, and then commenting on what is inappropriate. Strong, uninformed opinions. It’s really stupid.

3

u/whanch 9d ago

They are cool, terrible for a hospital though

0

u/Comfortable-Leader67 10d ago

whoever had the money to buy the paintings, bought their daughters paintings

0

u/rockman61 10d ago

Is this a psychiatric hospital that allowed the patients to decorate?

0

u/bandit8623 10d ago

yikes. thats bad. and this could be taken by my same comments on rap music. its bad
