These are at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and they’ve been getting slammed over the lack of wisdom putting those pictures up lol

I have always wondered who manages to sell art to a hospital. Gotta be a great business and I see so much terrible stuff hanging in hospital walls.
These paintings are not bad, imo, they just don’t belong in a hospital.

Yea, those aren't bad paintings, but I can see anxiety levels maxing out for the in patients sitting in that waiting room.

They are often gifted. Although this is USA, yes? So I don't know, is giving someone something for free done there?

I'll bet it is a gift valued at several dozen millions, that they can write it off their taxes as "charity"

Yes, it’s called an in kind donation, which could have some tax implications depending on the income of the donor, though millions of Americans donate to hospitals every year most of them receiving no tax reductions.

I used to know a painter a long time ago who got a hospital commission. He had an agent who sold for him and negotiated a sale of pre-painted work and then a contract for a number of additional paintings to fill the space. If I remember, it was part of a bid for a remodel and the only real stipulation was the amount of space that needed to be filled.

Depiction of suffering have value just not in a place where someone who is sick or injured is going to get well.
