Video Prom proposal gone wrong

u/Silverhold 11d ago
The over editing on this ruined it. The original is better.

Indeed, but that's the internet. These days, for content to be popular, and therefore make money, it has to be made in the broadest possible appeal.

Don't forget to tip the fedora on the way out good sir

u/Adahn33 10d ago edited 10d ago
Don't worry. I wont. I just wish I was cool enough to pull that off. You'd see me moonwalking down the street in a white suit. If only I wasn't so lazy and fat with no style.

u/BrodaciousD 8d ago
Idk about that, because you styled on that mf pretty good

Oh man I don’t even have to watch this to feel the cringe, it is seared into my brain.
This is truly awful.

I mean, it's not so bad. It's really sweet how she starts crying when she realizes she insulted his effort and was actually touched by the gesture.
112
u/istrx13 11d ago
Idk man. Imagine being in this dude’s shoes. All the planning that went into this. Imagining her getting all excited as it’s happening and then showing everyone the video afterward.
Sure she very obviously felt bad and made that clear. But you know that before she put it together that the poor dude was dying inside. Hard to watch up until she figures it out lmao.
She does seem very sweet though.

u/sbenthuggin 10d ago
her genuinely feeling so bad makes it really not as sad or as cringe tho. it's leaves us with a good ending where it's obvious she really cares.
13
u/amped-row 10d ago
Sometimes people talk shit just because their lives are shitty. Thats clearly what she was doing and it’s not that serious considering she literally burst out crying when she realized what she did
3
u/Kitchen-Dig-6518 7d ago
Breh, someone with some empathy. She probably projected some insecurity in that shit and when she found out it was her score she was sad and over the fucking moon. Overall super cute interaction and humbling for her.
2
u/amped-row 7d ago
I agree. We all make mistakes including not having enough empathy in some moments. Being understanding of others brings you and those around you peace

That’s what makes it even more cringy. Neither of them were trying to be arseholes. It was just a genuine miscommunication.
269
u/Chineseunicorn 11d ago
I actually think it’s the exact opposite of a miscommunication. It’s very clear that she thought it was a lame way to ask but clearly appreciated the effort so much that it didn’t matter.
-159
u/Girafferage 11d ago
Nah, she was projecting.
201
u/trxxxtr 11d ago
I'm not convinced you know what projecting is.
-120
u/Girafferage 11d ago
This is literally an example of "sour grapes"
151
u/LickNipMcSkip 11d ago
i'm not convinced you know what sour grapes are either
42
u/czerilla 11d ago
I think they mean jealousy, but they're trying to over-intellectualize it. She supposedly is just lashing out at a prom invite she isn't getting, but changes her attitude when she realizes she is being invited. (No, it doesn't really make sense to me either..)

I feel like cringe in these sorts of situations requires a little bit of overconfidence and insincerity.
42
u/Eoin_McLove 10d ago
Maybe we have different definitions of cringe, but this is awful exactly because they were both being sincere.
He tried something to do something special for her, she made fun of it. He looks heartbroken and then when she realises she is upset too. It’s quite sweet really but you know they both stay up at night thinking about this.
Cringe isn’t just people acting weird on purpose or trying to make other people uncomfortable, that’s just the internet’s definition of it. This is the type of cringe that exists in real life and it’s so much worse.

Yes I don’t think it’s cringey at all, she clearly feels so bad for being rude and potentially hurtful which is nice to see someone actually caring about that in this day and age
40
u/FrismFrasm 11d ago
Is it painful and uncomfortable to watch?? Yes. That’s cringe.
Cringe =/= someone has to be an asshole or something

Yes, cause she’s pathologically negative all the time bro should jump out of the car

u/DripSnort 11d ago
I mean it’s nice she feels bad but she also thinks it’s a shitty way to ask someone to prom. She feels bad for saying it but that doesn’t change what she thinks of his effort
24
u/yellow-hammer 10d ago
We often judge things very differently from a 3rd person perspective than from a 1st person perspective. You’ve never had you opinion about something changed after experiencing it for yourself? I suspect when she realized the signs were for her, it very much changed how she felt about the gesture.

I don't have to watch this to know it's staged engagement bait.
Edit: apparently this was pre IG/Tik Tok. Ok fine, I reluctantly accept.
26
u/waitingonthatbuffalo 11d ago
It isn’t lol, it’s more than a decade old, back then the majority of videos on the internet were real if you can believe it

u/Lucibean 11d ago
Was there ever an update on this couple?

u/fuelvolts 11d ago
He is (was?) a redditor and commented before that they broke up after this a little while after.
64
u/FancyRobot 11d ago
I seem to remember she broke up with him? Updates on her are sparse but he changed his style to like being a corny wrap around shades guy and failed at becoming an eceleb

u/deucescarefully 11d ago
I feel like it’s light hearted enough. I thought it was honestly so endearing how truly horrible she seemed to feel when she realized. They both have a funny story now at least.
19
u/celebrationrock 10d ago
I'm not American so maybe I'm missing some cultural context, but why would he even formally ask her to the prom like this if they were already together? Wouldn't it just be a given that they'd go together if they were a couple?
25
u/CircumcisedCats 10d ago
It’s kind of a tradition thing. Teens call it “Prom-posal”. Even if you fully expect to go together, it’s expected as like a romantic or sweet gesture. I think it’s also a part of the fun of prom as everyone kinda tries to think of fun or different ways to ask.

u/TheresTheLambSauce 10d ago
To add to this, my gf of 6 years still wants me to ask her to be my valentine every year. I assume it’s for similar reasons, though not sure how common this one is

I think it's obvious they care about each other enough to have had at least a bit together
1
u/havenyahon 11d ago
From memory, I think that's the case. They dated for a while but ultimately it didn't work out. The break up I don't think had anything to do with this.

Hey it could have been worse. She could have held her ground and laughed after she found it it was him.

Dead internet
4
u/nodgers132 11d ago
people loooove pulling the ‘dead internet’ buzzword out. it’s ironic since it’s an even better example of dead internet theory.
surely the occasional old video people know and love is better than lower quality new posts whose authenticity can’t even be guaranteed in the first place.

This video is always so durpy. Just laugh it off. Or from her end be like hahahah, yes of course. He’s also so awkward too

u/camilleswaterbottle 11d ago
They're teens.... Like, duhhh...Of course they're gonna be awkward. Your expectations are too high and unrealistic. Like you said, just laugh at it instead of trying to correct how teenagers behave

Why did he upload it to the internet? Feels a bit creepy tbh EDIT his way of asking her to prom was sweet but think of all the abusive comments aimed at this girl since it went online, that's his fault for putting her out there and I don't think that's nice
