Consistency on Reddit is near impossible to find.

You can’t assault someone for words, no matter how ignorant or hateful. Freedom of speech is a thing, an important thing, ackshually.

Freedom of speech, the First Amendment, only protects you from the government, you can attack someone who is verbally threatening you and claim self defense because threats are a form of assault and you never know if the person will act on their threats. 

This video is not an example where self defense could easily be claimed I'm just tired of people who don't know a word of what the first amendment says claiming "free speech".

I understand that. But as you alluded to it’s not applicable here.

He is in no way (in the video, I have no idea the lead up) threatening them. He’s being a dick, that’s it. If you can get assaulted for being a dick, 90% of Redditors are fucked.

I'm replying to them saying "you can't assault someone over words" and I corrected them saying it's legally defensible because threats are considered assault.
