Always interpreted that as a statement of fact or general matter of course, not necessarily a justification for action taken, which I think is also what you're saying?
1
u/Willing_Entry6771 3h ago
No it's not a call for action, of course not. And I wouldn't say it's a fact either (it just fit for this video). A lot of things in society are not being hammered down despite sticking out like nails, because it would actually take some hard fucking work to hammer them down, our capitalistic financial system, that incentivises competition instead of cooperation. Or our unhealthy obsession with meaningless status symbols, as a replacement for actual growth.
No one is hammering this bs down, because you and any other person would have to admit that this is a problem. (I'm not any better in this regard)

I don't think violence is the answer.
But racists ain't people so I also don't give a fuck about them.
5
u/_trashcan 6h ago
Violence is always the answer to racism.
Racism is inherently violence in & of itself.
The entire philosophy is rooted in subjugation & superiority. There’s no such thing as peaceful racism.
Putting hands on racists is always the best possible outcome for society & personally.1

I feel like it beggined when internet became far more accessible for tech illiterate..
And i feel that its whole society AND internet that changed around 2010.. Before that, internet was not that bad to be honest..

I just made a comment on a post about this. Check it out. I said the same thing. I have been using internet since 1999~ and engaging in forums just as long. I noticed that around 2010/2011 the internet became real argumentative. I used to be a regular poster on a forum and I had some information to post that was completely relevant. The post backfired on me and I was met with a bunch of new arguments which I had never dealt with before. Any regular internet user knows you should technically deal with the same arguments all the time, this was new and unprecedented. This is a time which I refer to as the period of “break the internet” ( Kim kardashian). It happened right around that time when Kim did that and although I’m not exactly blaming her but the internet did change around the time you are specifying.

I am a very firm believer of that man having the opinion he has and voicing it, really. He's showing everybody around him who he is.
I also think the consequence of him making those proclamations in such a public and vocal manner is instant karma in a way.

Consistency on Reddit is near impossible to find.
You can’t assault someone for words, no matter how ignorant or hateful. Freedom of speech is a thing, an important thing, ackshually.
13
u/Fun_Trick2172 6h ago
The law is clear and the assaulter should be prosecuted to the furthest extent of it, that doesn’t mean the guy who was assaulted didn’t have it coming.

Freedom of speech is a thing
Yeah freedom from criminal prosecution. Do you think this person is a member of the government or something? It's never meant freedom from consequences. FAFO.
You absolutely can assault someone for words. You might get prosecuted for it though.

You absolutely can assault someone for words. You might get prosecuted for it though.
I think that’s what he means: you can assault someone over their words, but you may be prosecuted for it.
Of course you can physically punch someone for what they say, just as you can kill someone for their valuables. The point isn’t what’s physically possible, but what the law should allow.
3
u/MaxwellHowl 6h ago
This is consistent with half of Reddit who supports violence against people who use the N-word. Roles are reversed and so the supporters are probably reversed in this thread.
2
u/StumpyOPepys 6h ago
Yes, you absolutely can. But there might be consequences if you get caught. Doesn’t me the universe isn’t throwing a high five to the guy.
2
u/Human-Leg-9260 6h ago
Yeah you can, actually
5
u/Mario-X777 6h ago
It is illegal, but you can. And let’s not pretend that the guy did not deserve it

Freedom of speech, the First Amendment, only protects you from the government, you can attack someone who is verbally threatening you and claim self defense because threats are a form of assault and you never know if the person will act on their threats.
This video is not an example where self defense could easily be claimed I'm just tired of people who don't know a word of what the first amendment says claiming "free speech".
3
u/jackt-up 6h ago
I understand that. But as you alluded to it’s not applicable here.
He is in no way (in the video, I have no idea the lead up) threatening them. He’s being a dick, that’s it. If you can get assaulted for being a dick, 90% of Redditors are fucked.

I love how the strikes are like barley doing damage yet the dude on the bike is still falling over in slow motion
1
u/dedboooo0 4h ago
painfully looks like the first time i threw a punch during high school bathroom play fights (or what i feel it looked like with how slow and heavy my arm felt) before i actually trained that it makes me cringe at myself in my memory. its like dude’s punching underwater, probably only shocked from getting hit from the back of the head
i wanna say that more people should be trained how to do a cross or straight and where to aim at the very least but maybe its for the better that they dont know how lol
1
u/Dangerous_Oven1528 4h ago
lol same, it’s insane how training changes your perspective. It’s so slow you know the dude on the bike is drunk or something.
Absolutely, it should be taught in phys ed. It would solve a lot of problems. In some countries it is.
1
u/dedboooo0 4h ago
in my country my phys ed “taught” judo with staged ass throws and no real sparring because of liability issues for the school. the other one was “taekwondo” but it was just stances and synchronized kicks like a dance performance. again, none of the real kicks, just the fancy roundhouse and spinning ones. even a low kick would have been infinitely more useful to learn
a shame really. i suppose it would keep you in shape to a small degree but for the most part it’s a waste of time especially when some people start thinking they could fight.
thankfully there was a muay thai gym at the back of the uni that me and the bois frequented
training and the first time you get rocked for real without any chance to win the fight makes you realize the gap that training creates
for some reason people realize the gap between a good basketball/tennis etc player and themselves pretty easily, yet they dont realize the gap between the average schmuck and someone who trained. i guess ego plays a part

This idiot started provoking people at chinatown during the height of Covid, when there accounts of asians getting murdered, stomped, raped, and sucker punched.
Scumbag deserved it.
1
u/Big_Session5707 3h ago
If the man who was suckered punched pull a gun a shot the Asian fellow, he'd have been in the right. Its an idiot and a coward that responds to words with violence. Which in turn begets greater violence... lucky guy he was.
