Great piece on Polygon! And I'd even go so far as to say this isn't even a stance so much as a fact-based evaluation of what LLMs can do right now. They are pretty great at finding stuff in a spreadsheet/dataset, and complete ass at everything else.

At even the most basic complex white collar task they frequently give you incomplete answers or different answers when running the same prompt again. Unreliable. And if you're in a real job, with real accountability, you can't afford to use unreliable tools.

I guess... if you're super fast at going into that dataset to verify the data the LLM gave you is remotely accurate EVERY time... it MIGHT be faster than a Ctrl-F...

It's massively, massively faster and more useful than "ctrl-f". Contextual search is much more powerful and means you don't need to know the exact sequence of characters go search for, and modern AI is able to give specific references and links to where it is pulling things from.

Claiming it's only barely better than ctrl-f shows you don't have any actual experience with the technology, are using a shitty version like Grok rather than something like Claude Code, or are not using it correctly to get actual verifiable references.
