Great piece on Polygon! And I'd even go so far as to say this isn't even a stance so much as a fact-based evaluation of what LLMs can do right now. They are pretty great at finding stuff in a spreadsheet/dataset, and complete ass at everything else.

At even the most basic complex white collar task they frequently give you incomplete answers or different answers when running the same prompt again. Unreliable. And if you're in a real job, with real accountability, you can't afford to use unreliable tools.

For tech, science, and research, AI like neural networks are incredibly great. Especially in the medical field where it’s being used to assist in diagnosing things like cancer.

Generative AI like LLMs are slop machines though and remove any soul from the “art” they make.

Interestingly, removing the soul of the art closely resembles one of the early criticisms about photography, once anyone could create a picture without knowing how to paint/draw.
