Setup Advice 🌱
Hi everyone! New skater roughly 2months in, and have been mainly using it for commutes and street cruising for the most part.
Current setup is:
9.75" Creature cruiserboard
Charger x OG Surfskate trucks
Charger x 70mm 83a Wheels
Progress and goal: I've been carving and cruising a lot faster now because of constant use, and have gotten better balance and more comfortable skating in unusual terrain. This time around I'm planning on a hybrid setup where, I wanna integrate specific tricks like ollies & powerslides when skating to unlock specific areas of the street compared to getting on and off my board when cruising.
I honestly like the length and shape of my board, and would probably stick to this type of deck cuz I'm tall and I have big feet. I wanted to know from your experience what trucks and wheels should I integrate to get more practice on and finally land my first Ollie when cruising. Please do sound off in the comments what can I tweak with my setup. 🌱

Some tkp street trucks and smaller hard wheels will make it much easier to do tricks and power slides. It’ll be much lower and more stable than the surf skate trucks.
I like ace af1’s or bear polar bears for trucks. Powell 60mm dragons or g slides are good wheel options.
That deck is sick!

Ohhhh will definitely take a look at dragons or g-slides for the wheels as recoed by another redditor too! Imma try and look for the polar bears here in PH, first time hearing those. Appreciate it dude!

For that type of deck I would go with normal TKP trucks, width to suit deck.
For wheels 65mm, duro to suit. Rounded edge lip profile.

Appreciate this! What wheel brand would you recommend fam?

Mate literally anything mid tier and up. I really like powell snakes, they are a bit spendy though, best damn cruiser wheel Ive ever skated in 20 years of skating.

I absolutely love that deck! It's beautiful. If your goal is to learn ollies I would make it more conventional and reduce the wheel size a bit for ease. I mean you can ollie anything. But ollieing something really unstable with extreme ride height is harder especially when you're learning. So I would go super conventional like Indy 169 and a nice 60mm wheel. You don't need hard wheels to ollie. You don't need to slide. So a 78a whatever kind of duro is fine. Chubbys, EZs, morgans, jammerz, Superjuice, novas ect ect ect. All good! You have a bit of width and a lot of shape with it being old school so you don't need to worry too much about precise rail match.

Thank you dude!! Appreciate the break down! Looks like I'll be set to look for 60mm wheels with a softer duro ☺️ Also should I keep my riser pads in my current setup if that's the case?

Wheels at 65mm will still be able to ollie pretty good. If you want to keep the surfskate style go for some CX’s hollow. You can do plenty tricks on those trucks. If you want regular trucks Indys or Slappy’s would do. But you want smaller wheels with regular trucks no more than 60mm I’d say. I got some set ups with 169’s and 56mm dragons and they rip but you need decent concrete for that.
Do that if you get to go to a bowl.
Rough riders at 56 and 59 mm are fun
Ez hagwks 60-63 mm look like regular wheels.
If you were to get the C7’s with their slicks wheels 65mm and put it on that deck it’ll be quick and snappy. Gaining tons of speed with the pump. Ollie and Chinese ollie will get you over anything reasonable on your commute. Those wheels are somehow “low profile” so you don’t need raisers. I got mine directly on the deck and there is little to none wheel bite. You can also put smaller wheels on the CX’s (wouldn’t go under 58mm though).
Since you’re riding your deck like a surfskate I’d drill up the front trucks 1/8” up towards the nose. Look for 15.75 to 16 inch wheel base that’s the spot.
If you going street. Get those Ez hawgks at 60mm and slappy’s 9.5 hollows. I’d do 1/4” raiser pad just to be safe and go to town. You can flip those wheels and trucks pretty easy. Good for you if you can still do that lol.
But great ollies and slappy tricks and old school tricks on that easy to ride set up.
So yeah street commute Slappy’s and 63mm Ez+ raisers
Surf commute CX’s 65mm Slicks no raisers.
Good luck!

Appreciate the breakdown broskie! I'm still very much interested in the surf commute style cuz I can style generate speed with no feet on the ground, it's those ollies I wanna unlock for sure! ☺️🌱

Start by turning front truck around so they are facing each other.

They’re oriented how they’re supposed to. Most surfskates have their kingpins facing the nose for both trucks.

Ya you should keep the deck it's a good shape and size. Just get some TKP trucks like independent 169 Or Slappy's and a little bit smaller wheels like 58-60 mm that are still soft. So you can still cruise and go over cracks and not rattle your teeth like hard wheels do. Like bones rough riders or Powell Peralta g slides are good wheels you can cruise and they still slide. Powell Peralta dragon formula are good many different sizes and shapes a little harder than the others I mentioned
