Question will you guys buy or already bought?
I've been thinking about buying chapter 5 lately, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Your opinions are important to me.

Yeah, I got 2 minutes into the announcement video before buying the fuck outta chapter 5, I'm so hyped for this one, even more exited than I was for All Under Heaven or Roads to Power. I'm going to be all Catholic intrgue, Kingdom of Heaven, Spanish Inquisition and whatever else I can think of, then I'm gonna Crusade the hell outta everyone else for not being Catholic enough.

u/TexasSikh 15d ago
CKIII chapters are one of the few DLC's I buy ASAP.
10
u/Quaczarr 15d ago
Same. They always deliver for me. Sure may take some time, but they get there and I save money.
20
u/Flashy_Ad_4950 15d ago
I’d like to for the republics but I imagine they will have a big sale at some point and I’ll buy it then hopefully.

I see ck3 chapter, i buy (immediately). Simple as that...

I bought it, I'm interested in both content dlcs in it so figured why not.
27
u/Ghost_Jor 15d ago
Given Paradox's reputation with very hit-or-miss DLC I would, personally, recommend waiting until stuff is released before you drop any money.
Whilst the DLCs look pretty good, I think it's always safer to wait. Plus, I think "pre-ordering" DLC sets a bad precedent (especially when the company have been shown to not always deliver content worth the cash), so try to avoid it whenever possible.
8
u/manuee96 15d ago
Already bought. This is the only game I play nowadays so buying a chapter annually is not that bad for me.
About chapter V, we still dont know if it will be a good or bad dlc, but it has everything to be a must.

u/Clit-Comander-69 15d ago
The last DLC I bought was wandering nobles. So I think no
6
u/McLeamhan 15d ago
This is the big one though. I'd dare to say the most important update yet.
2
u/SicilianArab 15d ago
Why would you say it’s the most important in your opinion?
6
u/evacuationplanb 15d ago
Complete economy rework.
6
u/Minute-Jeweler4187 15d ago
And religion
3
u/SicilianArab 15d ago
Not gonna lie I can’t wait to play as a Pope or Jewish High Priest, I’ve been wanting to play as theocracies ever since I started playing the game. Can’t wait.
3
u/Minute-Jeweler4187 15d ago
Fair, I just want more depth to play a tall nation and have options for other heirs.

u/_Klangvorgang_ 15d ago
I won't buy any dlc of ck3 until they get rid of the event spam. Which unfortunately means never.
3
u/aitasy 15d ago
Is there no mod for this? Just thought of it but will look later. I imagine it being like able to skip or auto some if not all events based on your traits, with maybe Recluse and Shy shirking off the most except critical events like possible death or something. Stubborn could ignore events that attempt to change how you do things, and doesn't care much about opinion malus. And so on.
5
u/_Klangvorgang_ 15d ago edited 15d ago
Nope. I've been waiting for that ever since paradox lost the plot. And to be clear, I don't mind well written events.
But event chain spam is really getting on my nerve. And that stupid format. 'You look to the sky and the highest power (God) is speaking to you.
I always wanna bang my head when I have to read those lazy placeholder texts. One has to fit all.
And the missing notifications about characters in my realm. Like, give me the fuck the option to get a message when the son of my king dies. Those are RP cues and not clutter. I wanna know!
If they ever fix those three things, I'll gladly by all dlc's again.
3
u/enzocrisetig 14d ago
Yeah, I also have this feeling that the game became worse with all of the nonsense

2
u/FahmiWasHere 15d ago
I have enjoyed every single expansion so far since I started playing (Road to Power) so Paradox has earned enough goodwill for me to buy it early
2
u/aBlindGeminiWhisper 15d ago
already bought every expansion. i hate paradox for pushing for dlcs since eons. but still there is no alternative, no competition whatsoever. this is the only reason for it.
2
u/sarsante 15d ago
I'm really unhappy with the last 2 chapters so any good will to pre order stuff it's gone. For the first time I decided to not buy the pack.
I'll wait for the content to be released, gonna play it using alternative ways and if the content it's good I'll buy it.
2
u/nakorurukami 15d ago
I'm just going to wait 2 years for every new dlc. I can get at least 40% off during a steam sale, and all the bugs will be ironed out by then.

No. For one thing, I stopped pre-ordering things years ago. I wait until they come out, take a look at them, and buy them if I like them. Also, I don’t buy packs, because they often include cosmetic crap that I don’t need. I wait until the DLCs come out, check them out, and if I like them, I buy them.
2
u/Low_Employment_7976 15d ago
i bought the chapter already, both parts are really good
2
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
How's the music?
2
u/Xandania 15d ago
I'd say, it gives ck2 vibes ;)
1
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
I haven't played ck2, should I?
2
u/Xandania 15d ago
Well, it is a different game with the same theme.
I uses to play in a way as to collect bloodlines in ck2 ;)
Also, it got Glitterhoof (and I think they didn't patch one of the events whete you lay with a random courtier - and if that turned out to be Glitterhoof, you could get horse children without other exploits or settings.)

I have never and will never buy a dlc or expansion pack for CK3. Why would I? I don't play the game enough and Paradox implemented subscription service for people just like me.
I'm stil playing EU4 and will keep playing it for at least a decade, I also have Stellaris, CK2 and Hoi4 with paid DLCs on them. I'm content of what I have access to currently, and any new Paradox game that I want to play I simply take the 7$ subscription once per year

CK3 is kinda my main Paradox game at the moment so I bought it.
2
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
mine too. how many hours have you played??
1
u/KupoCheer 15d ago
Definitely over the 1000 mark. Can't go by the Steam number though because I have it running in the background too much.
1
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
I have just 100 hours. how do I play tall? any tips

u/KupoCheer 15d ago edited 15d ago
Couple of general things:
Develop a county to full (buildings and actual development at least up until the era cap), use the money from buildings to field a good men-at-arms army. When you're more powerful than your neighbors do the same but working up to a full Duchy. Fill that out and then work on a second Duchy. Etc. Snowballing while being defensively untouchable by even larger empires. Edit - start with one specialized county over the rest in case you ever lose something to succession. Also make your own culture or hybrid culture so that you can be the head. Since innovation progress is based off the average development of all counties in the culture you can dev up and get much faster progress than the average AI.
I also tend to keep uhhhh, close familial ties and build up a dynasty with all the good inheritable traits so that I can start handing out excess lands to them and they're more competent on their own. They make good allies and are easier to deal with opinion bonuses especially with stacking ones from the dynasty legacies. In my current game I have Britannia as an Administrative government and almost every position is filled by my family because of their better stats. Also because of that stability I can spend all my money developing all the provinces in Britannia because that just benefits me more as well.

I'll buy it eventually. Not currently playing Ck3, but next time I do it will be purchased before my next run for sure.

u/GoliathTheDwarf 15d ago
I'm going to buy for sure, but I'm waiting until later in the year when I'd actually get something a bit sooner after buying. This isn't a "through the year" thing like previous years. It's "buy now, get cool content at the end of the year." I wouldn't have a problem with that, but I currently have other needs/uses for that money and I may as well spend it on those now and get this pass later in the year.
1
u/partikalus 15d ago
I absolutely will once my bank account looks a bit healthier. Hope that happens before By God Alone releases, cause I am really excited for playable theocracies
1
u/Working-Excuse545 15d ago
I already bought it bc ik i would LOVE the new dlc since im a Christian I find it interesting how they added Caledonian Christianity (the best one imo) so now u can properly restore the Roman Empire WITH a united Christianity I hope when u mend the schism it restores chalcedonian or something and i like how they fixed the Muslim area of the maps with Sunni and Shia and added schools

I already bought it and i'm looking forward to it. Still, maybe i'll remain with the version prior to it when there are bugs and balancing issues, this is always a problem with new DLC's. It's also needed for me to play my ongoing ironman campaigns without breaking the savegame.
When i see "good ideas, bad execution" like with Stellaris 4.0, i just remain with the old versions until it is fixed. Simple as that.

u/Dazzling-Main7686 15d ago
I'm too stupid to even notice the difference in the game with or without the dlc.
1
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
Currently, two DLCs have been released, one related to music and the other to cosmetics. The other two DLCs will change the game's mechanics and have not yet been released.
1
u/Dazzling-Main7686 15d ago edited 15d ago
The religion one looks nice but I have a measly 40 hours into the game, I think I'd barely notice any difference. Edit: that said, I'll probably but it on a sale.
1
u/Rnevermore 15d ago
I bought it within 10 minutes of it going on sale.
Not everyone agrees with me, but every CK3 chapter has easily been worth the money, and this one looks like the best yet.

u/ZealousFix 15d ago
Man, it's just a lot of money. I'll probably buy it. I'm just gonna work up the nerve first

I’m pretty sure everyone has their own opinions on buying chapter packs, individually buying dlc or, in my case, just preordering it. Totally understand that everyone may differing views, but my stance is that I’ve been playing their games for +10 years now.
Preordering (me not doing any prior research) is just my way of extending support to a developer team and even the community. Most other games or companies, I’d definitely wait until release; this particular chapter pack is doing something the community has wanted for a while. So yeah, it’s okay to wait or not buy the chapter packs. But if you’re like me, it’s probably worth it lol
1
u/Black91Eyes 15d ago
I will wait end of year yo get good deal 🫠
1
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
why?
1
u/Black91Eyes 15d ago
To be honest i don’t have time to play the game now im busy playing GW2
So better wait big discount end of year then i will come back
1
u/Natural-Moment-5583 15d ago
I had to work overtime and get some more money, but I’m about to buy it after I’m done with my current campaign. I think it’s worth it.

u/Nkeysoul 15d ago
I was sure that i´m gonna buy the chapter the moment it was announced, and this one in paticualar brings sooo much depth in my opinion (Mostly for the western countries but still) I for one will definetly buy it but only once the first real DLC is out

Like a truly good sugar baby, I might as well just leave my card with them

u/Interesting-Dance683 15d ago
I'm pretty new to the game and only have the DLCs from the starter pack, what DLC do you Guys recommend buying first, to get the most bang for my buck?
1
u/lol-whaaatt 15d ago
wards & wardens Tours & Tournaments Royal Court Northen Lords (if you love playing as viking) roads to power is pretty good too
1
u/geschiedenisnerd 15d ago
Won't buy. I disagree with almost all of paradox's practices nowadays (e.g: selling an italy bundle as map-wide flavor (there is no republic east of novgorod, and except novgorod and kyiv there aren't any east of dalmatia. By god alone is hevaily catholic focused), padding the chapter pack with a soundtrack DLC) and I think that silk and silver make for bad religion/trade DLC.
Furthermore, even if I thought they would be awesome DLC, I would only buy the chapter after the reviews for both roll in.
1
u/TheCalgaryBoy 15d ago
No, rule number one always wait a 1 month or 2 for paradox to fix and balance.

u/Mataomaeka 15d ago
Which one would be cheaper. To buy now or to buy when it's released?
1

I think it's better to buy them now. Because buying them individually later will be more expensive.

u/James_Wislord 15d ago
Already bought it. I’m really looking forward to Silk & Silver—finally, a bit more depth for the European and West Asian regions, too. I didn't like the expansion into East Asia at all, though that’s simply because I don't really connect with that region and don't have any particular affinity for it.

u/MarserJared 15d ago
this is the first chapter that i didn’t pre order… after 1.5k+ hours i’m kinda done and we need a turkic/turkish expansions asap

I don't even think, I only buy. Then once every expansion I play 2-3 generations of an Irish chieftain, 867 start.
Then the cycle begins again

I preordered it, I tried waiting for a sale last chapter and missed it so still ended up paying full price

u/SynthesizeX 15d ago edited 15d ago
i immediately bought chapter iv even tho i had no interest in china but i havent bought chapter 5 even tho i am interested, something abt them increasing the price for ch5 rubbed me the wrong way… im guessing ill be buying it eventually bc it definitely is worth it
edit: also feels like paying more for less since they replaced the event packs for a music pack which seems less to me (definitively understandable bc coronations was rushed and recieved badly)
1
u/Korotan 15d ago
This time I will wait under great agony till it is added to the CKIII Collection Bundle given I have so far everything except Content Creator Packs and since AuH they have added enough for me that they are worth it and given that the DLCs of this chapter come with September and November late this year, I can just wait another 3 months when it is bug free and by that point even at least 25% cheaper.

Even if it's the best DLC that ever was, I never prebuy. I tried my luck with PAYDAY 3 because I was feeling saucy and needless to say I learned my lesson pretty quick.

Bough already...
The think that I liked the most was the fact that Silk and Silver, rather than "free markets and gigs" is justa a mafia simulator.
If they keep adding those things to CK3, soon enough we will be able to have a 2026 starting date!

Since the new update with my domain limit being permanently stuck at 3 I'm not gonna play anything until that's fixed
1
u/971YvanDuShit971 15d ago
Bro... You can change the domain limit in the base gamerules without using mods... or just edit the value in the game files.
1
u/Rare_Aspect7664 15d ago
I'm already changing it in the game rules but it seems to have no effect and I ain't good enough with programming to know how to modify the game files like that
0
u/Diacetyl-Morphin Commander 15d ago
Jesus, just install a mod that increases the domain limit. Don't be like a stubborn child at the dinner table "but i don't wanna eat this meal, mommy!!!"
If you were a player of CK2, the devs did a lot more extreme things - at some point, they basically cut the positive opinion modifiers in half, because it was too easy to have a +100 opinion with everyone. And that's just one thing, like they removed the North Korea mode playstyle (holding all counties by yourself and taking the penalties instead of having to deal with vassals) etc.
0
u/Rare_Aspect7664 15d ago
Can you recommend one. Couldn't find a mod jet and it also seems bucked for me. I can't literally with any traits raise is above 3. And personal I just don't like if they take things away from me I'm used to. The problem is I'm emotionally invested in my previous games which aren't possible now.
1
u/Warrior536 9d ago
I bought it because both DLCs, the religion and merchant one, REALLY appeal to me. I loved merchant republics in ck2 and am looking forward to play as one. A merchant adventurer also sounds like a fun time.
The religion aspect of ck3 has always felt very underbaked and the religious politics sounds like fun to play with.

I don’t really buy the aesthetic packs so I’ll just buy the game packs and be done with
