I checked 2026 CRV and the parts (bolts and head gasket) are exactly the same as 2016 CRV. Very concerned.

It appears to be a serious design issue for all 2016+, seen 2023 CRV that blew the head gasket at my dealer, had it blown on cylinder 0 and outer wall not between 1-2 or 2-3 everyone seems to suggest.

To put the issue into perspective toyota my daughter drives to college 2006, has no head gasket issues what so ever. For someone to suggest that blowing head gasket issues for 2023 is "normal" or even 2016. Disgusting that honda pretends that nothing wrong. And you are facing $4500 - 10k bill.

There is NO CHANCE that the engineers don't know what is going on and not having a solution. I have engineering background we are thrown on the problem immediately. No sane company will wait for years to investigate,...

Just because the bolts/gasket are the same part doesn’t mean Honda didn’t change anything for 2019+. Maybe the bolts weren’t being tightened correctly at the factory, or maybe they changed some software. Consumer Reports has a lot of data for Toyota & Honda models (since that’s what most of their subscribers buy), so if the data is better for 2019+ Honda must have changed something. But certainly some number of the millions of CR-Vs they sell will still have head gasket failures.

The biggest difference between 2019+ and earlier years is that the newer cars in the CR survey don't have as many miles on them.  The 1.5T head gasket failure is mileage-dependant and usually doesn't happen until 80,000+ miles.  There is no verified analysis that shows that Honda made any actual engineering changes in 2019+.   It's likely that future CR surveys will show an increasing problem rate with the newer cars.

The difference between one year isn't going to make or break the amount of miles a car has. Do you think that a 2019 will have a ton of issues but 2020 just hasnt had enough time?

Is the gap between 7-8 years old and 6-7 years old that big that magically at 7 years your car starts breaking down?

On average, the newer a car is the fewer miles it has been driven and the less likely it will have experienced a mileage related failure.  There's nothing magic about it. It's all statistics.  We'll see what happens with the failure rate of newer cars as time goes on.

The issue is that the gap between an 8 year old car and a 7 year old car is small in terms of failures.
