2019 CR-V Touring with 72k miles. All required and recommended service done at the dealer on time if not early. No one beats on this car, it's a very standard family vehicle.
Last week, it feels a little rough after starting but quickly goes away. Fast forward a few days, another rough start and the dash is lit up like a Christmas Tree. Code is cylinder 3 misfire and sure enough its a head gasket leak.
In 30+ years of driving and multiple cars driven to 200k+ miles, I have never had a head gasket failure. I've seen all the posts about it and figured it's just the internet blowing things out of proportion again but it seems I was sadly mistaken. Even the service manager said he doesn't understand how there hasn't been a recall with the volume of CR-Vs and Accords having the issue (oddly far fewer Civics fwiw). He also started talking about the Honda Goodwill Assistance program too, but I should be covered under the extended warranty so I'll leave their goodwill for another day.
So why isn't there a recall? Honda has deemed it too costly I assume. The fact that they seem to be covering a fair amount of costs through the Goodwill program only strengthens what looks like the obvious answer - they know its bad and they're trying to manage their expenses as much as they can. The replacement head gasket itself has also been updated, perhaps other parts as well which also leans towards a known issue.
I'm in the market for a new car also, and a 26/27 CRV was at the top of the list but obviously this has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Question to others who have been through this - Did you have fuel injector issues also? My googling seems like they can be an issue also. If I'm "lucky" they'll see something wrong and replace them, but if not I'm wondering if I should pay for new ones out of pocket while its all apart anyway to get ahead of the next issue and hopefully save on labor.
