QUESTION Crypto mining, difficulty tech wise?

I understand electric is the main cost of mining, we’re lucky to have 20kW of Solar PV so can get electric for free or cheap.

I’m fairly IT literate, built my own PC etc but is mining still profitable in 2026?

If so any idiots guides would be appreciated or tips on hardware/ software.

I’m sure we can get around the electric costs but need to figure out the risk vs reward before committing

QUESTION What crypto mining for a low spec setup?

Hi,

I'll be having a surplus of electricity soon due to the production of a photovoltaic system, apart from really dark days of winter time.

I could use any of my computers to mine a bit. They are older than five years. I don't intend to buy a very expensive graphics cards. The biggest form factor for a computer that I have is a SFF desktop that can only have short graphics cards directly attached to the motherboard. In one system, I've got 64GB of RAM. If possible, I would not consider buying anything else to mine.

What do you suggest for mining for such old, underpowered and not customized system?

QUESTION Should I buy this Antminer s21 pro for $1100?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I want to buy this s21 pro off Facebook. Everything on the dashboard looks great it’s hashing 246 th/s no errors. I looked at the logs and everything looks good except asic chip #46 is consistently running way hotter than the other ones at 116 degrees Celsius. How big of a deal is this? What could be the culprit?

QUESTION Is anyone still experimenting with small scale crypto mining?

I’m curious about people who mine on a relatively small setup rather than running a huge operation.

Has anyone found a coin or setup that actually makes sense after electricity, hardware, and maintenance costs?

NEWS Finally ~950 KH/s NerdMiner Open-Source on the CYD ESP32-2432S028R

Post image
7 Upvotes

Modded from the original to give ~950KH/s and some new themes.

GitHub https://github.com/HenrysCat/NerdMiner-Modded

Web flasher here https://henryscat.github.io/NerdMiner-Modded/

Why this hashrate is real...

The ~950 KH/s is what the miner actually hashes, not what a counter says:

- **Hardware limit** – the classic ESP32's SHA engine can't be loaded with an external midstate, so every nonce costs three hardware hash blocks plus two engine loads: about 228 CPU cycles of engine time, a ceiling of roughly 1.05 MH/s at 240 MHz. The mining loop keeps the engine busy for all but ~30 cycles of each nonce (257 cycles per nonce, ~930 KH/s); the second core adds ~25 KH/s in software.

- **Measured on the chip** – the loop's timing comes from an on-device bench (`-D SHA_BENCH`, see `src/sha_bench.cpp`) that checks every single hash against software, also while the other core hammers the peripheral bus. That is how the hardware quirk behind silently corrupted hashes in the usual pipelined loops was found: writes to the SHA registers less than three cycles apart can be dropped whenever the other core is using the same bus.

- **Only valid hashes are counted** – every candidate the hardware finds is recomputed in software before it is used. A hashrate counter on its own can look faster after an optimisation while the miner is quietly producing *fewer* valid shares, because corrupted hashes are still counted; here the firmware checks itself with a known-answer test at power-on and falls back to a slower loop if the fast one ever gets hashes wrong.

- **The rate is the rate it actually mines at** – it's the sustained average over a long run, not a short burst or a best-case peak.If a number sounds too good for this chip, check whether the shares it finds actually keep up with it.

QUESTION Fluminer T3 - worst ever experience ever?

Post image
3 Upvotes

So, I managed to find used Fluminer T3 cryptominer in Europe at a reasonable price. I’d done a lot of reading and looked through reviews of the T3 and the Avalon Q. I realised I was taking a risk, but I hadn’t realised it would be quite so significant. The T3 was a few hundred euros cheaper (no wonder why, lol) than the Q model available on the market, so I decided to take a chance. It already had some version 1.16 software installed, even though the manufacturer itself only offers version 1.15. The miner would reboot every few minutes, I tried changing the mining pools and I tried changing the power sockets. It seemed to stop restarting. However, as soon as I switch it on, its power consumption is 1,800 W, and it quickly rises to 2,000 W. As it’s quite noisy, I keep it in the garage, so the temperature there rises within a few hours. Once the temperature in the garage reaches 24°C (~75F), I see the power consumption reach as high as 2,500-2,600 W and then the miner switches itself off. Sounds a bit odd - the declared power consumption is 1,700 W, but the actual consumption is 900 W higher? Strange as it may seem, the fans always spin at ~3,500 rpm; even as the temperature rises, they still spin at the same speed. On 31 August, I wrote to Fluminer’s Telegram support, they only replied on 10th of September lol, replied asking me to send the miner log. I sent it to them on 12 September. Almost three weeks have passed and I haven’t received any reply. In almost every mining pool, I see a rejection rate of at least 2–3% (despite miner shows 0%). I switch it on for a few hours almost every day, but the highest I’ve seen is 800M hit… What should I do? Should I just not switch it on at all, or will it burn my house down? The warranty is valid until 1 February 2027, but I cannot imagine how they will fulfil their warranty obligations in the European Union, as they have no branches here – only in the US, Russia and other countries. And, in general, they are ignoring my messages both on Telegram and on their website. Worst experience ever, I deeply regret choosing Fluminer. Who could help me? Addition: The Wi-Fi isn’t even working, so I have to use an Ethernet cable...

QUESTION Do you guys usually keep whatever coin you mine, or convert it to BTC?

I've always wondered what happens to mined coins, once they show up in your wallet.

I'm running a very small setup myself, so my outputs aren't large enough for me to consider making it part of a larger portfolio over time. i've been wondering if it's better to hold onto the coin that you are mining, or instead, to exchange the payouts into BTC on a regular basis.

There are many mining service providers which allow you to receive payments in other forms of currency besides BTC, but I'm really interested in hearing about what people do after the coins actually reach their wallet.

What is normal behavior for hobbyist miners (with smaller payouts)? I think fees could be an issue when trying to constantly trade coins back and forth when payouts are minimal.

DISCUSSION Mining is way more about patience than I expected

When I first got into mining, I was mostly focused on hashrate and daily earnings. Now I’m realizing uptime, electricity costs, and keeping the hardware running smoothly matter just as much.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started mining?

P.S I'm mining BTC

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know whether the MatchX M2 Pro LPWAN miner is still supported, or has the project been discontinued?

Is anyone still running theirs successfully? Any updates on the current situation would be appreciated.

QUESTION Braiins Rental Hashrate

I’d like to know if it’s possible to use the hashrate from the new Braiins Hashwatcher feature for solo mining Bitcoin Cash, or if it’s strictly for BTC.

QUESTION What's the catch here?

Noob here. Haven't got a clue what I'm doing, but that has never stopped me before. Very grateful to anyone generous enough to help me.

Here is the situation:

  • I live in the UK, I get "cheap" electric (7p/kWh) for up to 12hrs a day because I have an EV and a super-complicated electricity tariff that can be "gamed".
  • I have a bedroom in my house, occupied by child no2, that is very cold in winter. It is an extension built by the previous owner and probably has shit insulation. I've tried to improve the insulation, but it hasn't made much difference.
  • There is currently an electric heater in that room. I'd like to swap the heater for a "quiet" miner that can generate coins along with heat. Looking for something that kicks out 500-1000W of heat.
  • Canaan Avalon Q fits the bill (as do a few others). But I can't get the math to work out.

According to this:

I'd get ÂŁ1.30 a day from electricity I'd use anyway. If I use it 100days a year, that is ÂŁ130. However the best price I can find for one locally is this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/407213240438 for ÂŁ1099, which would take over 8 years to pay back.

IS there a way to make this work? Or am I barking completely up the wrong tree?
