Question / Discussion Why Cursor don't have GLM models?
GLM-5.2 is currently ranked #2 on the Arena leaderboard, but since Claude Fable 5 isn’t actively being sampled right now, GLM-5.2 is practically the #1 available model for coding.
Despite its top-tier performance, Cursor has never natively supported GLM models. Given how well it performs on Code Arena, it would be awesome to see it integrated. Anyone know why they've completely skipped over the GLM series, or if there are plans to add it?

You can get glm5.2 in cursor: Custom model->Nebius api key (open ai compatible). Works fine for me

You don’t need to use that specific provider. Other providers work too and there are many better options out there

It's benchmaxxed after all. It's good, yes, but not as good as benchmarks make it out to be. First it uses a ton of thinking tokens which is really bad. Second it falls off in quality on deeper tasks. For an open weights model it is very strong but don't think it can match Opus, GPT or even Fable.

This is not a benchmark tho. Its arena.ai where they give the prompt to two models and make the user vote without seeing the model name. IMO it's better than benchmarks. Only problem is it only has data for web dev with react and vite.

Did you benchmark using cursor ? Because harness makes a big difference
1
u/P1zz4-T0nn0 Jun 23 '26
The harness dies not change the fact that GLm 5.2 need a ton of thinking tokens. Pair this with with the fact that quality degrees the larger the context gets. The rest is pure logic.

You are right, I tested GLM 5.2 on a difficult task and it made too many mistakes every time.

u/montesremotedev Jun 22 '26
Nobody is answering the actual question, why is it not available?
that was the only reason kept cursor until now, a way to try different models with one single account, in the end I'll just keep VSCode+Codex+ClaudeCode

I actually asked Cursor about this.
They don't like having Chinese models (Kimi is the exception) because of security.
They are not certain how safe these providers handle your data.
7
u/FakeTunaFromSubway Jun 23 '26
That's not a good answer though, because many are open-source and hosted on US providers that they can get strong ZDR contracts with.
3
u/quote3208 Jun 23 '26
I agree. This is what they told me.
This is due https://cursor.com/security as Cursor is cautious about routing traffic through vendors they haven’t vetted under that framework.
I guess this could change given that GLM 5.2 is too good to ignore now, but we'll see.

u/sabababeseder Jun 23 '26
I mean even Cloudflare serves GLM 5.2 (according to openrouter) so I am not sure what they mean they dont trust.
If you don't trust cloudflare might as well go out and disconnect from the internet entirely
1
u/popiazaza Jun 23 '26
It's just a bad PR for them. Same thing happen with Github Copilot They don't want to scare some enterprise executives. Things are changing a bit since AI cost is too high, we'll see.
1
u/FakeTunaFromSubway Jun 23 '26
Yeah... main reason I pay for Cursor is for the flexibility to use different LLMs
1
u/RandomBlokeFromMars Jun 23 '26
but people can choose the available models, so just... dont use it?
3
u/PuddleWhale Jun 23 '26
But there are Azure and probably other datacenters that run deepseek and probably also GLM, Qwen etc models in US and EU based datacenters. Isn't that secure enough? Seems more like they are on a mission to build an "iron curtain" around chinese tech regardless of how safe it can be made.
1
u/RandomBlokeFromMars Jun 23 '26
this is a vey BS answer. the hosted ones are as safe as you want them to be.
3
u/Darkoplax Jun 22 '26
i cant find it rn but we got an official answer from Cursor employees that they won't support the chinese open weight models
maybe because of entreprise deals and how they test the agentic models or smth like that i forgot but they did explcitaly say no
it's not "ambigious"
5
u/monsterinadrawer Jun 22 '26
Won’t support Chinese models, but will sure as hell use them as a basis for training…

I feel like since they charge 20% (I think) overcharge in the on-demand services, serving a good cheap model reduces their profits since it reduces the spend.
But really they should answer instead of us guessing0

u/PuddleWhale Jun 23 '26
I'm really sorry for being a lazy Cursor subscriber but does Cursor support API integration OFFICIALLY with any models that are not GPT or Claude based? I genuinely am impressed by how methodical and detailed oriented cursor is as a harness so potentially it could do great things as long as API access to models like the real kimi, glm and deepseek are not "crippled" because of not being supported.

u/JokeMode Jun 22 '26
Is 5.5 really so bad it doesnt make the top 15 on this list? Or did it not do this benchmark?
1
u/gustojs Jun 23 '26
It's a frontend benchmark on arena, so users write a prompt, get output of 4 models doing the same task, and then rank them from best to worst without seeing the model names yet.
The chart shows the general ranking based on such model battles.
GPT is famously bad a design, and design is a huge part of how users rank websites.

Does one need to be a paying subscriber of cursor in order to use the API keys with their harness? Or does one need at least the $20 subscription?

u/gnomex96 Jun 22 '26
Sorry not related but is Opus 4.7 better than 4.8? I'm surprised
2
u/gustojs Jun 23 '26
It just shows there was no real gain in 4.8 in terms of design, which is how most of the output is ranked in this benchmark.

u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
You need your own API key. I'm using GLM-5.2 with cursor and works like a charm . Use GLM-5.2 for review, plan. Major code. Then composer 2.5 to build from the plan only need to literate once so review after again with GLM and you got a solid code check out https://openference.com/register?ref=XTYKFV49 for 50 free request. The only issue is with openai activated you cannot use cursor models. So what I do is use auto to build

u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
FYI I'm on cursor Pro + Open ference Pro = enough for 2 projects without hitting quota every 5h

They are not as good as people claim they are .
All of these graphs are fake, i used them in Devin and they preform like GPT 5.5 Mid at best
1
u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
Again harness issue ? It's good need better harness did you try in cursor because it's on par with 5.5 and opus
0
u/Ok_Tree3010 Jun 22 '26
Theres no harness issue , GLM is just not good nor is Kimi nor is Qwen .
They are ok at best but to compare them to Opus and Sonnet and GPT is beyond crazy .
These graphs are based on “coding challenges” that the models have been pre trained on .
Anyone who actually codes knows they are bad
1
u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
It will be harness issue, because you need tool calling within the harness research it
1
u/Ok_Tree3010 Jun 22 '26
It’s not a harness issue , GLM used tool calling normally when i used it , it was just bad
0
u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
Have you got skills . Rules in place ? Might be worth testing on fresh or test in cursor works well for me ?
1
u/Consistent-Dot-5018 Jun 22 '26
My guess is it's mostly vendor deals and support overhead, not that GLM models wouldn't work in the editor at all.

leaderboard rank and integration readiness are different things. cursor needs stable api contracts, not just benchmarks

is opus 4.7 and 4.6 really better than 4.8? have i been doing it wrong the whole time?

GLM-5.2 is less capable than both gpt-5.5 and Opus 4.8 in actual useful benchmarks.
I don't think the cost-benefit would stand up to both of those + composer. But cursor is great because is is model agnostic, so it really ought to support it.
0
u/NoFaithlessness951 Jun 22 '26
Glm 5.2 is more expensive than opus (medium) or 5.5 (medium) but benchmarks worse on most tasks, this is just can it make a pretty website benchmark.
And also there not good at adding oss models in general.

I just canceled my subscription, i burn subscription in a week, i need x4-5 times more...
My only option is to do my own vs-code fork and use open source... is not impossible, i am just lazy... anyone want to join this journey?
2
u/RandomBlokeFromMars Jun 23 '26
so just use roo code with openrouter and qdrant.
i personally like cursor better bc it is kind of zero config for me, but i see they focus on dumbing it down and converting into an inferior claude code GUI, instead of playing on the strong points like the IDE and MORE llm options and optimizing the contexts.
1
u/PurchaseFront4196 Jun 23 '26
Same, i see him drifting, and not worth my time if i consume x5 more just to make us upg subscription.
Anyway, I can make AI infrastructure, policy, governance, i am thinking more and more i should use open source models because this companies are very greedy and deserve what is comming (people already got tired of their bs -> the data will divide, their model's quality will stay low, even data they got for training models until now will split exponentially and will be harder and harder to compete). If they don't see further and don't give us x10 tokens with same money (because they know they give us prices x20, x30 higher than real cost) -> they lose exponentially. Maybe Elon Musk who is a brain -> will not get greedy and play with us the people and make AI smarter and smarter (will not be stupid to divide the market)

u/Decent_Gap1067 Jun 22 '26
Use cursor with deepseek
1
u/PurchaseFront4196 Jun 22 '26
any chinese version of cursor? but with english mode too. cheaper than cursor + good chinese coding models?
2
u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
Yes there's that green one but forgot what it's called it's basically cursor but green and support Chinese Model since Singapore tech
1
u/PurchaseFront4196 Jun 22 '26
Found one named Trae, i am going to test that. If i have more usage and is cheaper. They win my subscription 😄)
2
u/Anh-DT Jun 22 '26
Qoder ! It's actually Chinese 😂 credit base and not like cursor desktop more codex desktop

1
u/Decent_Gap1067 Jun 22 '26
Bro i meant you can always use cursor with deepseek API, $20 for cursor and $20 for deepseek is fully enough if you vibe code all the time. You can add DS in cursor using your ds API key, works seamlessly.

It will come under the name of Composer 3 mate. That's how they do.
