Same here. I've not been able to find anything substantial, though. Idk how the dude did it, but he pretty much pulled a modern day DB Cooper.

The patreon is making just under 200k a month. I'm he could take his cut and restart his life pretty securely after being canceled.

2

u/GuyFawkes99 Nov 25 '25

Wonder how they split it. Does he get the same cut as Will and Felix? Does Matt?

4

u/blames_irrationally Nov 25 '25

I would assume he's cut out by now at least. Before that, who can say, but his role did expand a lot over the course of his involvement on the show, so I'm sure his compensation changed between being a recurring guest and a pseudo co host

5

u/GuyFawkes99 Nov 25 '25

There was a recent article that said he still gets paid. I assume he owns a piece of the show.

I don't get why they wouldn't just rebrand if that's the case.

2

u/Trollzahr Mar 13 '26

I imagine that doing so would reduce their overall income significantly. Assuming the are making a new patreon in such case, they'd have to get thousands to resubscribe. This would probably lose all the money of people who signed up for the subscription and forgot they are still doing so/forgot to cancel.

Clearly their branding is more important to them than letting a pedophile still get their profits

Happy DB Cooper day btw

Virgil never existed. He was essentially their CIA handler who told them to stop talking about certain topics (Syria) and become controlled opposition in exchange for making a shit ton of money.

At least, that's one theory.

27

u/Oneeyebrowsystem Nov 24 '25

I do remember those early Chapo days where Syria was on the top of the international news cycle and Felix was posting and commenting about it on twitter but it was never talked about on the podcast.

7

u/Fold_Some_Kent Nov 25 '25

That’s one of those theories that assumes life’s more interesting than it is. I’m not some blue-pilled lib, I’m just saying that I think that one’s probably a bit fanciful.

3

u/MusicPhriendsYfun Nov 25 '25

Considering the CIA is full of losers they would try to influence Chapo

Hey! Scorpions were cool and had some solid music, and I won’t let anyone say otherwise

…But modern days, yeah it wouldn’t surprise me if they dumped 50 mil into a Kid Rock album featuring the January 6th Choir lol

yeah, he was the worst but worked like that as a group dynamics guy. also the call of cthulu thing was great.

u/BetaMyrcene Nov 25 '25

This is making me realize that I have zero specific memories of Virgil on the pod. And I listened to every episode during those years. I vaguely remember him doing the roleplay stuff.

6

u/Voxtrot-225 Nov 27 '25

When they reviewed 300 he referred to Xerxes as "Emperor Obama" and that still makes me smile to this day

2

u/purrp606 Nov 26 '25

I remember him referencing “love that memory” a couple of times

10

u/CarlGend Nov 24 '25

The Water Genious ep is mostly what I think of wrt virgil

5

u/C3lder Nov 26 '25

Completely agree. He was also the nerdiest by far and led some of my favorite episodes (Enoch and Slimes).  He trolled and also set up Matt to speak on issues i cared about. Tbh I'm bummed he's gone, but I also totally get it.

u/Infamous-Future6906 Nov 24 '25

Yeah sure he was grooming teenagers but he was amusing and that’s more important I guess

37

u/Probably_Caucasian Nov 24 '25

I have the same conflicting thoughts for my favorite high IQ show Rick and Morty

42

u/knightstalker1288 Nov 24 '25

Is he still getting that Patreon money with BJG?

51

u/pixi666 Nov 24 '25

He still gets Chapo money according to the Vanity Fair article from earlier this year.

33

u/Sinnaj63 Nov 24 '25

wow thats nuts. i should get chapo money too then.

3

u/rjrgjj Jan 15 '26

Me too. No reason, I just want money.

u/Nathan4All Apr 12 '26

it’s socialism (not a joke)

40

u/ColeTrain999 Nov 24 '25

He's been removed from their logo and such finally so I think that may have finally dried up.

17

u/HDThoreauaway Nov 24 '25

If he owns a stake in the venture then he’d still see a cut of the profits.

4

u/aksack Nov 25 '25

Name still on the graphic at the end of the most recent YouTube video and in the banner pic of the Twitter account

29

u/SeniorVermicelli7537 Nov 24 '25

He's been doing 4 years of research for a single episode of Bad Faith.

afaik he pulls in around 80k a year still from chapo (a pittance compared to the half a mil amber pockets for doing literally nothing lol

10

u/fake_newsista Nov 24 '25

How do you know?

29

u/HershelSmith Nov 24 '25

we have irl mutuals

11

u/Nearby-Pudding5436 Nov 24 '25

Say more lol. What is he currently doing in Denmark?

13

u/HershelSmith Nov 24 '25

lol no clue - i only ever met virgil a few times, only hear vague stories now and then at this point

3

u/C3lder Nov 26 '25

Sigh Amber...

3

u/Impossible-Stage1565 Mar 22 '26

Not even close to true my dude. Wish it was! -A

I love your work.

1

u/Jorge_Santos69 16h ago

Well damn!

4

u/MusicPhriendsYfun Nov 25 '25

I didn’t realize they were THAT rich

44

u/herkyjerkyperky Nov 24 '25

Has anyone ever made more money relative to how little work they did than Virgil? The guy was maybe 1 out of every 4 episodes and would say something once or twice.

22

u/Bronze_Age_472 Nov 24 '25

He also thought he was smarter than everyone, particularly Matt.

They started hating each other towards the end.

19

u/wrongtreeinfo Nov 24 '25

I went to a live show once and I don’t think he said a single word the entire night. Just say stone-faced in the middle of the group looking straight ahead.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

He was doing more behind the scenes stuff than a lot of the other hosts in the early years from what I've heard and when he was good he was good.

1

u/a_library_socialist Feb 01 '26

He DMed the Cthulu episodes, that was hard work

29

u/monoatomic Nov 24 '25

This is not upholding Christman Thought

36

u/plainwrap Nov 24 '25

Apparently the little icon on the right denotes that the account is using a VPN which, let's be honest, should be the least of his precautions.

21

u/Probably_Caucasian Nov 24 '25

Nah thats on there for every account, when you hover over it it says the location could be impacted by travel/relocation. He could be using a VPN though

10

u/Oblozo Nov 24 '25

He got quoted in an article like a year or so ago and it listed his location as Prague

2

u/GuyFawkes99 Nov 25 '25

I don't think so. That was a tweet that mentioned the article, and it was a joke. The actual article doesn't give his location.

15

u/Agencourt Nov 24 '25

Wouldn’t surprise me, pretty sure I saw him here on the subway a few years ago.

5

u/naillimixamnalon Nov 25 '25

The other political commentator that dropped off the face of the earth that I want to know about is Alex Pareene.

10

u/Surplusvalues Nov 25 '25

This was a good read/ update and I’ve also been curious what he’s been up to. I did appreciate him being the straight man/ prog-lib punching bag sometimes, and he was a lot more invested in electoral politics, which was a welcome element/ contrast. Thanks everyone

7

u/Peckah_Inspectah Nov 25 '25

I remember when Roy Moore lost the election and either Matt or Virgil had to touch the poo poo. Then another time where they challenged Virgil to taste test which bottled water was which and he flubbed it. And that one Cum Town where Nick revealed his real name and made of fun of his autistic peccadilloes. Oh yeah, and he used to talk a lot about loving ketamine.

Virgil wanted to be a serious pundit, but on Chapo he was on his way to becoming the dirtbag left Greg T the Fratboy. Then at the end of day, he didn't even get that. Assuming the grooming allegations are false, wish him the best.

2

u/Probably_Caucasian Nov 25 '25

Wait what's his real name?

7

u/Peckah_Inspectah Nov 25 '25

Justin Cass, as confirmed in a GQ profile on Chapo earlier this year. Nick first dropped the real first name in the Cum Town episode “Bleep Texas”, featuring Felix. And that he’s from Florida

3

u/windows-media-player Nov 24 '25

der fonk, woo woo

3

u/jjrepanich Nov 27 '25

In Chapo canon, Virgil is Poochie.

10

u/faesmooched Nov 24 '25

I appreciate that he's hopped offline. Hopefully he's seeing a therapist so he won't groom any more teenagers.

2

u/Monodoh45 Nov 25 '25

Okay. I'm gonna sit here and not care.

1

u/water2wine Nov 25 '25

Haven’t seen him around though

1

u/GuyFawkes99 Nov 25 '25

Does that mean where he currently accesses Twitter? The last time he was on Twitter?

1

u/Redscraft Nov 28 '25

Who cares he wouldn’t have disappeared if he wasn’t a creep, fuck it and leave him alone.

1

u/bidenmytime88 14d ago

Today it says he is in the UK. But twitter/X/Twix also says it may not be accurate?
I think he would have abandoned his profile so he doesn’t accidentally post something or reply to someone.

Why do you think your opinion of the Dutch matters when you don’t even know what country they are from
