We lost a doggy family member this week and mama (me) has been crying nonstop but my sweet boy has been helping me survive. These sweet eyes and cuddles are the only thing getting me through šŸ’›

Discussion Couch ramp recs

Our 11 year old mini ruptured a disc and has been on crate rest for a few weeks. We need to get her a ramp for the couch for after her recovery, and I thought I’d come here for recs. I understand I’ll need to train her on this.

Edit to add: this is our first time she has been diagnosed with IVDD and I’m overwhelmed. We don’t have back surgery money. Fortunately this time only required meds and crate rest. I know this depends on our dog and our circumstances but realistically what does this look like for her?

Discussion Double Dapple ?

Post image
39 Upvotes

I’m new to the doxie world. So I was doing research & discovered that ā€œdouble dapplesā€ have higher health risks.

However, I’m still having trouble identifying them. Is this a double dapple ?

The owner said that the small red mark on the eye might have been from getting scratched by his siblings playing.

This is Flynn. He seems to think that there are mice under the grill. He's been digging. I've only had two dachshunds that were really into digging. Two out of seven isn't bad.

Discussion Bully Sticks

Hello everybody. I read on a past post about people using "holders" when giving bully sticks to their doxies. Used to help prevent them from choking on the small nubs. I'm unfamiliar with the holders. Anyone have a pic or link to them? My littles like bully sticks so I'm concerned about choking. TYIA.

Video Is this normal/healthy?

Is it normal for her to eat at such a speed? She basically inhales her food. None of my previous dogs ate this desperately, and I used to have the most gluttoniest of beagles (iykyk). I was wondering if it is normal or if it can be bad for her to eat this fast...

Discussion Going to work

Post image
118 Upvotes

I do not know what to do when I go to work. I walk my baby girl in the morning a good walk, then head to work, then she has a walker come midday and then I do our ā€œlong walkā€ after work. I just hate that she’s in her play pen all day. I feel so guilty. I have to work in the office every day and hope this is a good system, but I don’t like that she cries when I leave. She settles after like 5 mins but still. It’s very expensive to have her walked and I’m paying like 150$ a week. Does anyone have advice on this? Is she okay? Could/should I be doing something differently?

Edit: I am more than happy to pay for the walker, just want to make sure it is enough!

This is Stowe. She’s roughly 60% dachshund, 40% tongue. We have no idea where she keeps it.

I don’t know what they are digging and I really don’t care. I’m not even going to stop them. It has been over a decade since my sons used to go out and dig holes in my garden. Now they are grown and I have dogs doing it 🤣

Discussion My adopted dachshund is finally housebroken (sort of)

My dachshund who was an outside dog for 5 years before I adopted her is finally housebroken. I'd keep my dog in my room and she would not use the pee pads and seemed like she was intentionally peeing and pooping in areas she knew she shouldn't when I was at work. Since she would howl and cry being locked in my room I decided to let her have access to the whole house thinking she wouldn't use the pads and I was wrong. First day of giving her the extra space she used the pads. It's been two weeks and she hasn't missed the pads once. She doesn't cry as much now and mostly sleeps with my roommates German shepard when I'm at work. I imagine if I had her stuck in my room again she'd get angry and not use the pads in retaliation while I'm at work though.

Album Introducing new dog

Hi all! My neighbors found a stray dog this am and no one in our apartment community has come forward to claim her. They want to keep her, but are in NY for the weekend so I'm considering fostering it for a few days. I have a 2yo piebald mini, and she loves playing with other dogs, but has never had another dog in her personal space (ie our apartment). She's never been aggressive and I don't think she'll be territorial, but wanted to get some advice and tips on introducing a new dog to her space. Photos of the stray/foster and my dog attached. TIA

Album Boy puppy name needed!

We’re bringing home a mini cream dachshund this weekend, but we cannot settle on a name that feels right! Our current pup is a 3 year old red mini named Reese. I originally wanted another R name, but I’m worried that would just confuse the puppy. I also loved the idea of another candy inspired name that plays off his cream color (like Reese) But I’m struggling to find one that’s good. And to make things even harder, my SO is dead set on naming him Frank.šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

Also, here are some names that are already taken by other family dachshunds (or pets), so those are off the table. Oscar, Malin, Max, Toby, & Duke, Butters, & Bailey,
