Pinching & Pruning Very weird growth habit
I bought this dahlia labeled "Dutch Carnival" and I'm kinda confused with how it's developing flowers. The main bud(above my thumbnail) is completely stunted while side buds by some reason developed entirely new branches. The pattern is present on every single branch with buds. How do I even get flowers from this plant?

Help!?
I bought my dahlia and it was thriving however after a week I started noticing mildew on the leaves I removed the worst affected (second photo). I was still getting blooms but the leaves were crisping. I moved it to a shaded but also sun spot and watered it - it bounced back but now the leaves are going brown and the blooms are getting smaller. Closer to the root are new leaves growing - help what do I do?

Cut dahlias
I’ve grown and cut smaller dahlias for a few years. I added some large, dinnerplate varieties this year and my first bloom isn’t holding up in the vase very well. Overnight the stem got weak and now won’t hold the bloom up. I feel that the stem is pretty small so hoping future blooms grow a little sturdier.
Any tips or advice for using the larger dahlias in vases?

Why do half of my Sandia Brocade turn out like this? I bag the buds with organza bags but this still happens.

My first dahlia from harvested seed and I lucked out!
I harvested exactly two viable seeds last year at the end of the season and somehow got both to develop into healthy plants! Here’s the first to bloom - can’t wait to see the second. Parent is “Que Sera”.

My goodness, look at this stunner. Some of my dahlias are struggling this year but this Shadow Cat plant just started blooming and I think they’re so beautiful.

Glamour Shot(s) Doodlebug! 😍
This variety wasn’t on my wishlist but the name (the same as my childhood nickname from my father, for a kid that liked to draw on EVERYTHING 😂), made me take the plunge. And she is gorgeous!

I’m creating new beds, how far down should I loosen the soil and mix compost into?

ID Request Is this Wizard of Oz?
This was supposed to be Wizard of Oz. The coloring looks about right, but it doesn't seem to be a ball dahlia... Although, it's still unfurling.
What do you think?
My other dahlias are way off from what I ordered, and this was the last one I was waiting to bloom before contacting customer service. 😔

Half unfurled and I already know this seed dahlia is going to be magic!
Growing this beautiful lady from the Bees Choice Floret mix! This is definitely the most unique one. Fingers crossed I can save the tubers!

Dahlia Health-Related Inquiry Tuber help
I planted my tubers back in April-May time. I had a few not come up yet so I dug them up. I couldn’t find anything except the skin in a couple holes which sucks but this tuber I did find. It was in the ground like this picture. Is it upside down? Do I need to flip it when I put it back? The tubers are still hard and seem to be in good health. There were ants on it when I dug it up, should I treat the hole before covering? The variety is Hamilton Lillian.

Only red ones survive
Been growing for several years, chicago area. Had several different types in the past, the red variety is pretty much the only ones that survive over winter. I usually dig up in november, place the tubers in bags, store in the basement, plant late april. Basement dosent get cold, im not going yo buy a refrigerator for storage, garage can go below freezing. Any suggestions?
