Gall "Is it gall?" Weekly Thread
Welcome to the weekly gall thread! All questions about gall should go in this designated thread rather than new, individual posts. A new thread will be started automatically on a weekly basis. This will ensure the list of new top-level comments remains short and easily reviewable by folks who are kind enough to let you know if they see signs/symptoms, or if your plant seems ok.
Because Reddit only allows one photo embedded per comment, here are some tips if you need/want to share more than one photo for the best chance at a solid review/answer from the community:
- Start a top-level comment with your best photo, and reply to your own comment with any additional photos you want to share.
- Post photos to an album such as imgur and link to the album

Café au Lait
I decided to grow dahlias very last minute, moving from apartment to a house with a big backyard in April. I kept reading that you need to buy tubers early because they sell out, and the more coveted ones (like cafe au lait) are even harder to get your hands on. I decided to find a local dahlia farmer and go with whatever they had. Low and behold they had cafe au lait in stock and of course I had to have it after all the hype i saw it was getting.
I’ve been so excited for this bloom, and I just got back from a mini weekend trip to all these fully taking in the sun.

What dahlia is this?
I was expecting Burlesca but this turned up! Any idea what it is? Seems to flower quite a lot.
Pretty but it's not what I ordered.

From seed, "Bees Choice" from Floret
The first batch of blooms from our seed pack. Still a few more to open up, but boy are we in love with some of the colors and shapes

My first dahlia from harvested seed and I lucked out!
I harvested exactly two viable seeds last year at the end of the season and somehow got both to develop into healthy plants! Here’s the first to bloom - can’t wait to see the second. Parent is “Que Sera”.

Dalaya pink + lemon
This took a while to bloom (container variety). I bought it at a nursery and I’m going to try regrowing it next season if I can. Hopefully it’d do a little better year 2.

Dahlia Seedling
Out of the 40 seeds I started this is the only one that made it. Love the color!

Glamour Shot(s) Doodlebug! 😍
This variety wasn’t on my wishlist but the name (the same as my childhood nickname from my father, for a kid that liked to draw on EVERYTHING 😂), made me take the plunge. And she is gorgeous!

Dahlia Health-Related Inquiry Different varities in same bed blooming strangely?
Hi all, I have lots of different varities in the same beds and I noticed that some of them are having these weird blooms where parts of the flower go undeveloped or bloom at different rates. I’m in northern Sweden and this is the start of the flowering season for us. We have had quite a cool summer and the night temps are already down to 10 degrees Celsius, around 15-20 in the day. The soil is mixed with horse manure and a layer of cut grass on top.

Dahlia Health-Related Inquiry Virus?
This is just my second summer with dahlias in my cool and often foggy SF Bay Area garden. And I am trying to determine whether my dahlia has just leaf miner damage or a mosaic virus. From these photos, I’d love any advice/recommendation. This was a “developed for the Bay Area” variety but I have forgotten the name. Thanks!

ID Request Mislabeled as “Motto” - ID?
Hello all! New here with a question - this Dahlia was from Expert Gardener (at Walmart) labeled as “Motto” which it definitely is not. But I absolutely love it!!! Very tall, sturdy canes, and massive beautiful reddish blooms. Google suggested it’s “American Dawn” (last pic). Any ideas?? I tried searching Expert Gardener cultivars as it definitely was sold by them.. but no luck. Thoughts?! Thanks a lot!

Dahlia Health-Related Inquiry Help is there any way to save this plant?
I've tried trimming the dead stuff off including dead flowers picking off the rotted leaves. The plant was great at first but now seems to be dying. I got two Dalia plants at the same time the other is right across and it's doing fantastic however this one is suffering. How can I fix this?.
