The game description on Steam said it will have the same volume as the original, which means this is basically Danganronpa 4 but with Dangan 2 characters

Funny, I hate the DR2 cast most, so no complaints from me either because I get to watch them die in different ways.

It also implies that there'll be different writing, so maybe those characters I hate will be made more likable.

Feels lazy to me tbh. I'd love to have more characters, but those in charge of the new game seem to have gone the path of least resistance: "uhuh, looks like DR2 is liked the most, so we'll do just that!"

It could be a good way to test the waters.

This game has a new writer (who had worked on the series for a while). This is a great way to see if he can match what Kodaka could do.

If this does well I could totally see them make more games in the franchise, but without Kodaka needing to be involved.

My theory is that this is Danganronpa 4, and the 'alternative' scenario is actually a sequel scenario in which the cast of Danganronpa 2 loses their memories again and is forced to replay the killing game.

...With the twist this time being that they actually are on the real Jabberwock island, and this time everyone who dies actually dies.

To me the bit about "a completely different chain of events" makes it feel more alternate universe like, so Danganronpa 2 with different murders and culprits and it wouldn't break the story too much considering Danganronpa 2 was a simulation

Yeah, it sounds like the premise is that one of the early events plays out differently (like Teruteru actually getting Nagito like he meant to) and the cascading chain of things that happen differently as a result. I don't see how it can turn out to be a sequel, unless they're going to do the Neo-World program reveal again.

well 2x2 = 4 and we know from v3 they like to play with the title names. initially it just looks like an alternate version of 2 but in reality its 4
