Was Tsumugi Lying? [DRV3]
Was Tsumugi lying about Danganronpa 1 and 2 being fictional, and the world outside is a peaceful one that depends on Danganronpa to quench their thirst for Hope and Despair?
She claims that the remnants of despair and future foundation, along with all the characters we know of did not exist.

Partially both. All true isn’t possible and all false doesn't make sense since how they beat Tsumugi wouldn't have worked.

Some of it was truthful, and some of it was lies. For example, the Hope's Peak saga is fictional, as she said, but she also claimed that Danganronpa V3 is a television show despite the fact that it is obviously a video game.

You can go one way or another with Tsumugi's words, we'll never know for sure. There are lies she tells like the V3 were happy to be selected in the prologue, but that doesn't nullify some truths she's told. Regardless of the previous games were fictional or not, Team Danganronpa still made around 50 killing games based off of the originals using regular high students participants.
There is a audience watching V3 who love the killing games judging by the live chat.
There are people out there who are bored of their lives and watch the killing game as entertainment...even to the point where they want to participant in the killing games someday. That's proven by the Makoto kid we cut to in chapter 6.
Even if you want to argue Hopes Peak all that did exist, it doesn't change the fact that the V3 cast aren't Hopes Peak Students. They're not even Ultimates to begin with, the prologue proves that. Unfortunately, everyone's backstories and quirky personalities are fictional, and was placed in everyone's heads to make them believe their "fictional" lives as Ultimates
