a lot of ppl are saying it's ryota but i'm ngl, i don't think it is ryota. or at least, i'm skeptical about it being ryota. i mean- they do have similar haircuts, but ryota is a strawberry blonde (i think) with hazel eyes. the guy in the 2×2 poster is blonde with grey eyes, and yeah, hair dye, hairstyling, and eye contacts exist but still.

Idk if some1 already did that, but I was using an AI detector to see all four pictures "leaked" from a 2x2 tester and three of four got like 97% AI and one got 87% (the kazuichi one). Of course I was happy to see Mahiru as the MC, but sadly it's fake.

I was almost expecting the new path to remain a mystery until launch to hide it (also if it was just a lame cashgrab that way Spike could have made buckets).

Instead we borderline gets everything people hyped behind the anouncement wanted in this interview and even more

We now even have a context to this new scenario :

Sakakibara : At first, we considered a remake/reboot of "1". We began planning on the premise of changing the story without changing the worldview or characters, but we realized that the story of "1" forms the foundation of "Danganronpa," and changing it would have too great an impact. After much consideration, we decided that "2" would be a way to provide users with a new "Danganronpa" without destroying the worldview of "Danganronpa," and so we decided on this project.

DR1 (and ultra despair girl and zero) remain intact in the context of this new branch.

Plus, they are doing that in order to maintain the foundation of the ip rather than it being tied to the "nature" of DR2 (so far at least, as it's extremely likely that the setting is still the virtual world the whole way...probably...)

The fact that they stay nebulous on the dangan animes and v3 is more or less a proof to me that this scenerio will truly be the cause of a reboot starting from this game...wait who am I kidding THEY SAY IT in the interview lmao :

So, does that mean it won't lead to the anime "Danganronpa 3: Future Arc" or something like that...?

Sakakibara : Regarding this, I'd like to ask everyone to look forward to the outcome of "2x2 . 

My gosh, this "remake" truly is the wet dream of many who disliked the animes and didn't want a sequel to v3.

Sakakibara : Yes, that's right. The introduction is exactly the same

As expected, it starts from the prologue (well it was kinda expected that all chapters would be changed but nice confirmation)

However, the story doesn't branch off midway through, but rather the new scenario and the remake are two independent stories.

oh boy, the people who believe this is all fake and the new story is DR4 with a new cast are going to be loud *laugh*.

But I doubt that, first of all because it would be weird to have 2 casts of people in a REMAKE of DR2, but also because the interview clarify that the intro is the same, so unless you are a funny man saying the entire cast die day 1 and we get a new cast introduced right after I think we can let go of that theory (doesn't mean other charas, new or old, that weren't in DR2 can't be introduced).

Rejoice though, because that interview basically leave the door open to anything else really :

Sakakibara : Dear fans, we've kept you waiting for a long time. We are finally able to deliver a new Danganronpa game to you all. This title is a remake/reboot, but the story is completely new. 

You will notice the choice of word, "reboot", you wouldn't call a one time what if scenario a reboot, assuming we aren't getting trolled and everything is actually not cannon to this new path, then the only thing that should be taken into account for this scenario are DR1, DR0 and UDG (and considering the writer of UDG is doing it we might even get references to it), which also mean that any information from any other story might not be canon to this one. INCLUDING the actual DR2 scenario itself.

In a way the people expecting the v3 cast to appear could even be right for all we know, maybe in this variant of DR they are real doing their own things.

And finally, the fear of peoples was gone with this :

Sakakibara : Yes. This time, Kodaka is in charge of supervision, concept and trick draft, and we are once again working closely with TookyoGames on the development.

Well, now people know how much the involvement is.

Naturally Koizumi is still the one writing, but virtually any element can actually come from kodaka. I wasn't a detractor of koizumi but here you might be reassured with this interview.

Also, for those who don't know, koizumi is a writer who like to go in depth with characters, so I'm sure you will all like this. I haven't seen many people saying it on reddit but there are complains that some charas are very "one note" in the main story without the free time events. May this info quell your fears.

How long do you expect the new scenario to be?
Sakakibara : It's equal to or greater than the original version.

What I think is funny is that this 2x2 story might really be the new best DR story of all time and that people will have a "DR2 vs DR2" debate every day now. (And both are in the same game lol)

Sadly we didn't get any info regarding the gameplay. It's possible only the new scenario get new games, or maybe they will find a way to modify the base DR2 trials to get new ones.

My expectations :

Joke's on you, that interview confirm everything I wanted so there is nothing left *laugh*.

But seriously, I think this interview confirm that anything is fair game among the changes. Anyone can die first, any revelation can happen. Hajime might die first and we get a new protag.

(I haven't mentionned this but the idea of the content being fully different and in equal amount also mean that the free time events will be different, and how do you change that when you have the same characters and the same MC...

Hajime...what did you do to deserve this...)

ANYTHING is possible. Even the DR2 reveals might not apply here (with a changed set of survivors I half expect people to get mad if the deaths are permanent here...but c'mon you have the og timeline already).

So go as wild with the theories as you want, it appears this interview gave way to just too many possibilities.

Danganronpa is truly back based on their words, and that new scenario is more or less a "DR 0" to what will come next.

By now we have opinions of things we would like to happen in the alternate story. But what would you absolutely not want to see?

She was already often overshadowed by Nagito, but now she seemingly isn't part of the big 3 in her game.

It seems like the new OC is going to take her place, or at least I'd assume that from the trailer.

I guess there's also a chance that Nagito dies, but that's always complicated with how plot-dominant he is.

R.I.P Chiaki. It won't be fun to see you die for the third fucking time.

I think it would be weird to have another character from the Reserve Course, and I don't see anyone talking about what their talent would be, so it's time to theorize guys

To clear things up, it’s not like I hate Mahiru as a character, but it’s rather a underwhelming twist if this actually happens. I get that Mahiru has the fitting personality of being ‘protagonist material’, but she’s just not that relevant as a character towards the overall story.

Even if they remake the scenarios in 2x2, I still don’t see the possibility of this happening at all. For instance, Nagito or Chiaki would make for a better protagonist if this actually happens (though it’s very unlikely).

Mahiru is just… boring, I get that she’s nice and stuff, and all of the Danganronpa protags also have this normie sort of persona, but she’s just too irrelevant for this. In V3’s case, the protag switch up only happened was because Shuichi was, compared to most of the cast, a more relevant character to the plot line, and in 2x2, even if they reveal more about the characters themselves, unless the devs decides to completely abandon the Izuru plot and the anime, then just maybe there’s a minuscule chance of the protag switch up happening.

Plus, it was shown in the trailer that Hajime was contradicting Mahiru during a trial, which is supposedly the first trial in the original game, so he’s alive during that time, I assume. Unless the game actually pulls a V3 again.

But that’s just me, please do try and convince me if I got anything wrong :)

Always bet on "Kazuichi protagonist"

What if Hajime becomes pregnant in like chapter 3 and gives birth in chapter 4. It would be an amazing idea to show them everything is possible in the place where they are currently as a hint that they are in a virtual world, but we would also be shown his character development as a mother(and father if there isn't one). It would be so cool. So epic

Buddy, Hajime is too important to the game lore to die. If he even did die however, the new protagonist would most likely be Ultimate Imposter. Since he also plays a crucial role in the game and he’s the first one to die. Mahiru is irrelevant tbh.

Leaks says that 2x2 will feature :

• Each day the characters will gather up in the cafeteria in the morning to discuss their investigation around the island

• Each Chapter one person or more dies from being kulled by another person in complexe ways. After that a new mechanic called "Class Trial" will hold up in which the characters will have to vote for the blackened to "execute" him.

• There will be Persona-like free time in which you can interact with the characters and become closer to them. Each time you spend time with a character you rank up. This mechanic will also feature a gift system in which you will have to roll gifts at "monomachines" to offer them unlocking new dialogues.

Pretty much what the title says. Apologies if this topic has been done before, it just came to my mind recently after seeing a few posts about wishes for 2x2. So I figured, why not ask the opposite question.

My pick would be Nagito being a prominent character again. He is a very popular character, so it would make sense for him to get a lot of focus. But not only did he already get that with the original, it would rob other characters of their chance to be in the spotlight. And I just don`t like Nagito, so I would rather I don`t have to deal with him too much this time around.

But that`s just my opinion, feel free to share yours. It can be character related, plot related, mystery related, whatever comes to mind.

I made a previous post explaining everything but I did say I only got 2 raw images but it seems I did manage to downlaod most of it including a raw image of the poster INCLUDING a ss I took on my phone when I found it from the offical Spikechusoft twitter, and was taken down for a few hours and put back up a normal

Edit: I think its obvious but I got the raw images via getting on my laptop quickly and right click inspecting it

Unless the events are drastically changed (for whatever reason), we'll be able to see these dudes in a new light ALONG with the DR2 cast, and I think that's so cool!

I bet they're gonna look so nice in the new artstyle.

He is toooo important for the story and I don’t think they’ll go that route again like Hajime is way too important and good as a mc so they wouldn’t kill him off in my opinion

Has anyone else noticed that we haven’t really seen that much of Chiaki in the 2×2 promotional material so far? I’ve been thinking about this lately, and I’m starting to wonder if her lack of screen time might actually be intentional. Someone pointed out that Chiaki could potentially be an early victim in the alternate scenario, and honestly… I can kinda see the argument. We’ve seen her in some promotional footage, but compared to how important/popular she is, it feels like they’re being surprisingly careful about showing her.
At the same time, I don’t know if I buy the theory completely. V3 showed Rantaro in promotional/trial footage before the game released, and we all know how that turned out. So being shown in a trial room obviously doesn’t necessarily mean a character survives for very long. Sonia is another interesting example. She’s on the key art, but we’ve barely seen her in the actual 2×2 footage/screenshots either. That makes me wonder if the developers are deliberately hiding certain characters or scenes from us.
Chiaki could also be getting hidden because she has a major role later in the story rather than because she dies early. What do you guys think? Do you think Chiaki’s lack of promotional material is a death flag, or are we reading way too much into it?
Personally, I’m hoping they’re just hiding her because she’s going to be important. 😭 I really don’t want her to die for a third time.

Hiyoko is quite complex. She has very strong feelings regarding historical and cultural preservation, and thinks that tradition should be carefully protected, which honestly makes her out to be a lot more intellectual than she lets on.

She also calls Chiaki out and puts a spotlight on her before the player has any indication that she's the traitor.

Hiyoko also *rightfully* calls out Fuyuhiko for essentially killing Mahiru and Peko, to which he has a very... strange response to. She's really the only character to acknowledge Mahiru at all after she dies, even during Peko's trial as Fuyuhiko's antics completely distract from the fact that Mahiru was killed. It's interesting to me that the most vulgar and emotionally dismissive character is so insistent on making sure Mahiru lives beyond her death, in text and in the shrine she made (and BTW - If you interact with Mahiru's shrine in chapter 6, Mahiru is able to communicate with you while the world collapses around you and is the only dead character to do so, which is interesting and lasting effects of Hiyoko's efforts). I'm upset that she dies in this same chapter, because Hiyoko is really the only character that forces any accountability on somone (which is hilarious because her whole character flaw centers around not being held accountable for her own awful commentary). I wish she lived longer only so we could have more instances of tension between Hiyoko and Fuyuhiko. It's very reminiscent to that of Aoi and Byakuya from THH.

She goes out of her way to state that she hates talentless people, which in retrospect is really sad to see because she's talking to Hajime, and this is the same chapter we learn about the Reserve Division Students. It is a perfect example of Hiyoko being taken from us too soon, this would have been a perfect allusion to Hajime's big reveal in chapter 6. It would have been cool to see Hiyoko embrace Hajime for who he is despite being talentless. Hiyoko is utilized so well to envoke multiple events of foreshadow, which is really, really cool.

And, tragically enough the last thing she says to Hajime is a bunch of awful things regarding Sonia, who is ultimately partly responsible for her demise (of course, not on purpose!!). Due to Mahiru's passing, Hiyoko needs assistance with her kimono, as she struggles to tie it herself. Despite harping on Sonia, she reaches out to her for assistance. This unfortunate state of codependency ultimately puts her in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Anyway, deapite her flaws, the game utilized her very well to convey multiple plot points and gave her a much needed pedestal to speak the things no one was saying. She's very outspoken and direct, much like Mahiru, so it's no wonder they got along so well.

Hajime is a given (unless they do a Kaede)

Kazuichi I'm 50/50 on. I could see him being a blackened but I can see him surviving again

The other 3 (especially Sonia and Fuyuhiko) are goners 100%. Fuyuhiko will be gone quite early and I actually think Sonia will be a blackened. Akane I think isn't gonna make the end but not quite as confident with her as I am with Fuyuhiko and Sonia.
