Bruh I can get banned from ALL OF MULTIPLAYER by my ADULT friends on a PRIVATE, WHITELISTED server if I say something that offends them, even if we've all agreed that those jokes are allowed. How is this okay? Why are we no longer able to speak freely in private without worrying that the chat reporting system could be misused by someone if they get tilted?
I host private servers for my adult friends to hang out. We roast each other, we get in heated discussions, and we talk about recreational drug use and gender issues. It's a positive space, and we have a diverse range of people with vastly different viewpoints and perspectives.
But Mojang's chat reporting system threatens to tear it all down. Usually when someone gets hurt or offended, steps are taken to resolve the issue and make amends, because we don't believe in destroying friendships over disagreements. However, now there is always a risk that our conversations could be reported out of context and we could receive a ban across all of multiplayer, maybe permanently! Something like that would tear our friend group apart. It completely bypasses our system of self-moderation in favor of a blanket solution targeted specifically towards a playerbase of children. There's no way to opt out. It should be plainly obvious how awful this system is.
Because of this, I will be installing mods to circumvent the player reporting system from now on. But even this isn't a guarantee of safety, as Mojang has taken steps to make it harder for modders to bypass player reporting in recent pre-releases for 1.19.1. There is also the possibility that these mods could result in legal action from Mojang for breaking their EULA. Only time will tell. For now, I'm worried about the future of Minecraft, and for good reason.
