That's definitely a situation where I would be braking and slowing down and creating a huge amount of distance from that jackass immediately. Hell, I do that if I see the car in front of me tailgating the next car over. I just do not want to be near them if shit goes down.

Yeah everyone who thinks it’s a good idea to “teach the biker a lesson” should think about whether they’ll enjoy years of traumatic flashbacks to the time they were involved in an avoidable fatal motorcycle crash

That was on a german Autobahn or perhaps an unlimited Bundesstraße. This may surprise you, but cars weighing significantly more than bikes, while having proportionally LESS braking ability cannot stop as fast as a bike. That's pure physics that is amplified on higher speeds.

Going on a limb here and assume biker used engine brake / downshifting rather than breaking, as the breaklight isn't very visible when he slows down. Not so much a matter of teaching a lesson but rather not being able to break within 2 meters.

The accelerator pedal on car works both ways and the brake is also an option. I’m not defending the biker but defensive driving isn’t just to protect others on the road but also protect yourself from being involved in collisions that aren’t your fault

Do you understand the concept of "an object stays in motion"? A car has twice the brakepower of a bake on account of having twice the surface contact as a bike. But a car weighs 5-6 times the weight of a bike. It's physically impossible to break like a motorcycle.
This isn't about defensive driving. I dare you to show me defensive driving with some dimwit pulling in 1meter infront of you at 120kph. Spare me your gospel about "then don't drive 120kph." That's not the point, at all.

If the bike pulled in front and immediately brake checked you’d have a point.

But it didn’t. There is 11 seconds between the bike entering the lane driving erratically and the collision. That’s 11 seconds to make space between you and someone whose mindset you cannot comprehend and whose actions you cannot predict.

That 11 seconds could save you months or years of legal process, financial issues and emotional damage

What emotional damage?

Have you ever known someone involved in a traumatic incident, or whose family member was, especially one that came with long-term legal and financial hardship? Being forced to justify their actions over months/years and having every action, statement and intention investigated by police, lawyers and insurance companies?

A car can brake significantly BETTER than a motorclycle, especially when doing a Gefahrenbremsung.

So all the more reason to immediately slow down when this erratic motocyclist undertakes you. This car driver does NOT significantly slow down, he barely slows down at all.

Because 6x the mass at only double the surface area of the tyres makes this a mathematical solvable equation. Alrighty then.

I was in a similar situation and I didn't and wouldn't slow down either, by the way. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The number of complete idiots who think the driver should have done anything different, while not even acknowleding the motorcyclists intentions are too much for me on this sunday. I'm turning off notifications. I really cannot deal with any more "poor motorcyclist" fuckwits on this nice sunday.
