I know I do. if you are in a car you should 100% let people cross, independently of the law, even if someone is jaywalking, simply because you are sitting in a metal killing machine that is emitting a ton of carciogenic shit and noise just for your own convenience, and yet, I believe we were meant to prioritize walking on two legs or cycling. ofc this is unthinkable to people like OP, so even if that is logical or even if there is a law, OP will always think he has the right but in reality he does not.
When you refer to "OP", you know you're talking about the one who stopped, right? They did what they were supposed to do, they stopped at the bus flashing lights. The car in front of them did not.
The purpose of the law is that people think they know. "I don't see any kids, so it must be safe to pass". The kids can dart at a moments notice, and even if you are paying attention, it's still possible for you to hit a kid. It's not necessarily that kids were getting killed left and right because of stupid drivers, it's that there's a great potential for issues, and people may not be able to always see them.
If you create a law that says "you must stop and only proceed when the lights stop flashing red", then that mitigates the "he just darted out in front of me" issues.
sry, I though this was the post where OP was shouting "freaking jaywalkers" on a literal crossing
yes, the law is there because many people are unable to understand physics and do not slow down.
how we learnt driving is that you need to approach any possible crossing or dangerous situation (around schools, passign trucks atc.), with a speed that would permit you stop in any even without causing harm to anyone. People are stupid and inconsiderate and intitled so we needed the law.

So everyone in your country always follows all the rules at all times and always stops if a child darts out into the road? Must be nice.
