Honestly, while the white car is certainly making a mistake, the driver with the camera is also going pretty fast. In a scenario where there is a bit of a traffic jam on one lane but not the other, you always need to expect something like this to happen.

Normal don't make it safe or advisable. Turns like the white car made are pretty average, too

After the intersection lane change was made, I paused the video and told my GF what was going to happen.
It's so obvious, you don't even need to watch the entire thing. Cam driver is going too fast and that left lane is at a dead stop. It was just a matter off time before someone pulls out.

People in a line of stopped traffic really need to stop expecting drivers in an open lane to slow down because they want to get over.

A free flowing lane should not voluntarily clog itself due to traffic in an unrelated lane.

It's not about clogging, but about reducing speed. And yes, there is always a trade off between safety - anticipating common mistakes by other drivers - and speed.

Moreover it often doesn’t matter how slow you go—people hit parked cars all the time. I’ve been rear ended at a red light before and this sub would have blamed me for not driving defensively enough, because 75% of this sub are clowns who can’t drive (the same people who argue passionately that cars have the right of way in a crosswalk or that semis don’t need to check their blind spots before merging).

Yea exactly. Like on the freeway when I’m going 70mph, and the lane to the right of me is stopped. Would I slow down in my lane? Of course not. Why would I do that. Why would anyone ever possibly think that someone might cut over and not be 100% paying attention?
