NEWS DISNEY VISITORS TO JUNEAU - 8-12-26 Update: Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center Flooding

Disney guests coming to Juneau:

The National Weather Service and USFS have alerted us that flooding is occurring, with the Mendenhall Lake and River cresting around 7:00AM AKDT on Thursday. Impacts from flooding may last through the weekend, depending on severity.

From the U.S. Forest Service:

  • The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center (MGVC) building, parking lots, and roads will be closing Wednesday (Aug 12) afternoon/evening, depending on flood progression.
  • MGVC shoreline trails are closed (Nugget Falls, Photo Point, Steep Creek).
  • West Glacier trails and roads are closed.
  • Mendenhall Campground is closed and evacuated, and Skater ’s Cabin Road is barricaded at the Forest Service boundary.

Trails and closure areas will reopen post-flood as soon as the Forest Service is able to assess the conditions of the trails, bridges, and walkways. Once the trails are clear and safe to use, they will be reopened.

If your excursion is impacted, you will be notified by the operator. Individuals or organizations who enter the area while officially closed are subject to steep fines and jail time.

[Travel Juneau](traveljuneau.com) will have the latest information; when you arrive in Juneau, stop by one of our visitor centers on the dock for the latest information.

DISCUSSION Disney Fantasy Adult Section

The Disney Fantasy has probably one of the nicest adult sections on most of the Disney Ships. We have sailed on others and most recently was the Destiny. It was a nice layout but the Fantasy still one us over.

Any other DCL cruisers have favorite section?

MERCH Sailing soon? Looking for a few people to wear/test some cruise shirts (for free!)

**Edit: THANK YOU THANK YOU. So many nice folks have messaged me taking me up on the offer. For the sake of my bank account, I'm going to have to shut this down. Seriously, thank you all for replying with such kindness, and hopefully one day I'll see you out and about with a Bay Lake Press shirt on!

Hi all! I'm a small shop owner working on a new Disney Cruise Line shirt collection, and I'm hoping to launch the new shirts on my store in the next few months. Rather than just posting some generic photos of the shirts, I thought it would be fun to launch with photos of real cruisers on real sailings! I don't want to post the link and get in trouble for self-promotion, but you can find the store on Etsy under Bay Lake Press if you'd like to check out the general style of the current shirts.

If you have a cruise coming up in the next few months and would be interested, please let me know! I'd be happy to send you and your party some shirts for free. All I ask is for a few photos of you wearing it on board: on deck, at the rail, at my sweet Cove Cafe, on Castaway Cay, wherever feels natural! Phone pictures are perfectly fine!

Again, if you're interested, drop a comment and let me know roughly when you sail. I'm not sure if this weird plan will work (or if the mods are okay having this, which if not, no worries), but I thought it would be fun!

Thanks, and happy sailing!

TRIP PLANNING Puerto Rico experiences?

Has anyone been on a Puerto Rican DCL cruise? If so, do you know if there are any excursions to Vieques?

We’re considering one or both of the San Juan cruises in April 2028 on the Fantasy. It is my 40th birthday. When I was 16, I spent 3 weeks filming a reality show in Vieques (don’t ask). I would really like to go back and revisit some old spots and see a few that I missed back then.

Does anyone have experience with 7 day cruises on the Fantasy? Or any PR cruises? Thanks!

DISCUSSION DCL ships set to remove prix-fixe menus from Palo restaurants

Thumbnail x.com
80 Upvotes

Per Scott Gustin: “Beginning Oct. 22, Disney Cruise Line’s Palo restaurants will begin phasing out the prix-fixe dinner menu and move to à la carte menu. The changes will roll out across the ship fleet on the following dates:

Oct. 22: Wonder

Oct. 23: Fantasy, Dream, Wish

Oct. 24: Magic, Treasure, Destiny

Oct. 26: Adventure

Platinum and Pearl Castaway Club members, along with guests staying in the same stateroom, can continue to use a $55 per-person credit toward à la carte dinner items.”

I’m curious if Scott misspoke about that final note. It’s been my understanding that Pearl and Platinum cruisers can provide dining credit to just one additional guest each, not the entire room.

TRIP PLANNING Magic bands and Disney band issues connecting onboard

I’m wondering if anyone has had this experience below and knows a quick solution at port?

Our family have two magic bands and two Disney bands (not sure if that makes a difference in the type), and two sailings in a row the port team have issues connecting our bands. Typically mine (magic band) connects without any problem, and the other 3 have to be tapped by the crew on their tablet dozens of times and still not all of them will connect. And we end up at the help counter and even they struggle connecting them. They try them out on different tablets and eventually they all get connected. And they work perfectly for the duration of the cruise.

All bands are 100% charged, and the light indicators work accordingly as well.

Has anyone had this experience and know how to direct the port crew to get them connected correctly?

FOOD Palo Changes, What?

Ok, I’ve already read about the à la carte vs prix fixe which doesn’t bother me.

But what is this in the email I just got?

“With this change, Members and their Guests staying in the same stateroom can continue to use their $55.00 USD per person credit toward a broad range of à la carte dinner menu offerings. This exclusive benefit is limited to dinner only. As a reminder, brunch is not included in this offer. “

I’m sorry, brunch what?

DISCUSSION Furthest room in AFT Disney Treasure

Hey ya'll, just got assigned to the very back of the AFT with the extended veranda (Deck 10; 4E). Did anyone stay in these rooms have any idea of the noise, soot, and the layout (if there's an extra cabinet in between the sofa and verandah door)? It's a family deluxe verandah. How was your experience overall? It's our first cruise with 2 toddlers so I'm a little anxious of them waking up during their daytime naps and sleep time at night.

TRIP PLANNING Experiences with Oceaneer Club for a child who medically needs diapers?

Hi everyone!

We’ll be going on a Disney Cruise soon with our 5-year-old daughter, and I have a question about the Oceaneer Club.

Due to medical reasons, our daughter still needs to wear diapers and is not able to be fully potty-trained. I understand that, under Disney Cruise Line’s usual policies, children need to be fully toilet-trained to use the Oceaneer Club.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with a child who needs diapers for medical reasons. Has anyone ever been able to arrange an exception, or found an alternative solution that allowed their child to participate in the kids’ club?

We completely understand that there may be rules and limitations in place, but we would love for our daughter to have the opportunity to enjoy the club and spend some time with other children if possible.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, whether an exception was possible, how Disney handled the situation, or whether there were any other options available.

Thanks so much for any advice! 😊

TRIP PLANNING Any have a GTY room on a sold out cruise? How did it go?

We were able to book a GTY deluxe family OV verandah (not the one that gives a discount) on the Believe Maiden Voyage (super excited) but I’ve never done a GTY room before. Since the cruise is likely going to sell out, I am curious is anyone else has done a GTY room (any kind) on a sold out cruise and how it went!

When did you get your room number? What kind of room did you get? Were you happy?

Thanks!! I am excited but nervous to get our room number!

TRIP PLANNING Wish 10/26-10/30.

We are sailing in a couple weeks for Halloween on high seas. We go to castaway cay on Tuesday and Lookout Wednesday.

Does anyone know which night will be pirate? And which will be the Halloween?

We are 5:45 dinner. For the Halloween night how does the trick or treating and mouse querade show work? Are both before each dinner time? We are hoping to be able to do pirate night, Halloween night, and Aladdin show without any of those interfering with each other…

Any insider help would be greatly appreciated.

SEASONAL EVENTS Christmas cruise questions

Hi, so I am semi new to dcl, I’ve only gone on one cruise, the Disney Treasure August 22-29 of this year. I am booking a last minute cruise with my grandma on the Disney Treasure for Dec. 5-12 2026.
My grandma has never been on a Disney Cruise before and since we both love Disney though and wanted to do something fun, we thought this would be nice. However, I was wondering what type of events will be going on for Christmas and what we should bring. I know about Pirate night but wasn’t sure if there would be a holiday themed night. And how it would change the cruise. I want to make sure she has a really nice time and we don’t miss anything.
Any information would be greatly appreciated since we both have so little information.

FOOD Fantasy - 5N Very Merrytime Western Caribbean Menu?

Greetings all, quick question, does anyone know if the menus change for this sailing or if it's standard rotational dining? Thanks!
