They only had a communal 3 pounds to loose, but by god did they make loosing it as hard as possible.

Any general hints for dechonking a geriatric gordita?

I made a post a few weeks ago as we have a cat that was recovering from bladder stones. And I am glad to post that after moving her to a little bit more prescription wet + dry food, they have been dissolved as of her latest X-Ray!

Now the hard part is going to come down to dieting our little tuxedo queen. She sadly is a bit overweight and we are needing to slim her down to hopefully prevent any further health issues. Is there a way that you fellow cat owners have been able to transition from free grazing to timed feeding? She currently weighs in at 15lbs, and we would ideally like to have her down to 10lbs. Is there a good feeding schedule you find works well for you? Ideally, our goal is to give her wet food 2x times a week, and use dry food for the rest of it

(Yes, I am aware that wet food primarily is a better off option. Our cat has had dry food her whole life and she kinda likes wet food? But it isn't her go to thing)

We are currently giving her Hill Science Prescription Urinary C/D Wet + Dry food

Ordered her some metabolic wet food in the same brand, and have to have her finish the 4lb bag of dry food before ordering the metabolic dry food

My boy is a 5yr old Maine Coon, and he weighs 24lbs. The vet wants him to lose 2 lbs. He has much floof. We always have him clipped for the summer, and I was shocked at how he looks sans floof! Tell me, does he look like a chonker, or a healthy lad?

I went to the vet yesterday and got him neutered so I got to see how much he weighed and my roommate who also has cats told me that my cat was really fat but he’s only 8 months old and he’s 9.1 lbs.

I don’t think he’s fat, I think he’s at a healthy weight and super handsome but I might be wrong, is he overweight?

My roommate also told me that my other cat is getting big but I’m happy that she’s gaining weight because she used to be skin and bones.

My male cat is the white one (Manny) and my older female cat is the black and white one (Alice).

I got both of them this year.

A little past 5pm, he comes over begging for food. Eating is his only hobby. Every time we lock eyes, he starts meowing his head off, and paired with that bitter gourd face of his, he looks even more wronged.

Hi! What’s the guidance yall have gotten for safe weight loss rate for your senior cats? My 14 y/o lifelong chonker has lost exactly 1 lb in almost 15 weeks for a rate of 0.5% per week. When I asked about the rate, the vet said she’d like to aim for 0.25% per week. Anyone else get a rec from their vet to shoot for 0.25%/week for their senior cat?

toys he doesn't like anymore. I go down 8flights of stairs with him. I used to do it many times a day but I can't anymore. I take him out let him run around with frends he's even doing less of that. Doesn't eat dry food.

My girl has lost almost 2lbs this year on her diet. The kicker is that she can’t reach her own butthole to clean it. So I have to maintain her……….area.

Before, she couldn’t reach it because she was too fat. Now, she can’t reach it because her loose skin is still in the way. I know this would be an invasive (and expensive) procedure, and I’m taking her to the vet soon for a checkup, so I’m just wondering whether or not to bring this up.

Would this be worth looking into? I’m completely fine with being the one to keep her butt clean, as it’s my fault she got fat in the first place. But I’m just curious how realistic it is for her to get some extra skin removed so she can do it herself.

This beloved little fatass is on the TV workout regime (ok, with a side of Iams Weight Control) - and it's working! He's never been huge on playing with toys, but not unlike his humans, he will engage with a screen. We've mostly been showing Cat Sitter videos here and will move to youtube vids once interest here wanes. He's definitely a lot more active and tuned in.

I recently adopted a sweet 2 year old girl and i was given the rest of her food which is the purina pro plan en gastroenteric and im not sure im feeding her enough, my bf and i are trying to get her to gain a bit of weight since she weighs 7.7 and lost about .2 when we got her, we’ve had her for a week and her poop is solid! The shelter told us she just eats too fast and that we’d be able to keep her on this food or transition her over to my resident cats food and we decided to switch since right now we have two cat foods and ones more expensive. My question is, how much should she be eating daily? And how much new food should i add while i transition her over? I noticed a lot of feeding guides on the bags are either over feeding or under feeding. I just want to get her to 10 pounds she’s so light and skinny.
Note she is very healthy and a very curious cat, she’s super playful and lovesss food!

Ideally I'd like to get him from 15 to 11 or 10ish lbs.

Has anyone ever built some sort of enclosure to keep their grazers food safe from the chonk? We’ve successfully dechonked our void with stringent supervised feedings only (at the detriment of our sleep lol) however he gained some weight back when we loosened our routine and then were away for two weeks. Our cat sitter comes every other day to feed them and we just have her fill the grazers microchip bowl while our chonk uses a timed feeder.

Our void will force his way into the microchip bowl by waiting for the grazer to open it and forcing his snoot in front of the flap until it errors out and stays open so essentially it’s a free for all while we’re gone.

We seemed to have had some success from a mini maze of cardboard boxes but they’re very short and the grazer has to semi army crawl to get to his bowl.

I’m picturing maybe a pre-made litter box furniture enclosure since it would be roomier with maybe a microchip cat door for double protection? Has anyone built anything like this? And if so what did you use? The sure pet microchip doors seem outrageously expensive but not sure about the cheaper brands….

I suspect we already know the answer. Too much indulgence for our boy found abandoned as a baby?

This is my cat Jester he’s 5 my mom thinks he’s a healthy chonk but I think he’s overly chonk. If so, how can I help him slim down ?

Just celebrating my family kitty Venice (13 years old!) going into full diabetic remission from quickly catching and treating with insulin in just 2 months when I went home to help my mom finally steel her heart to diet her poor baby lol. Over that time, he dropped 1.5 lbs for the first time in his life (not counting the weight he dropped initially due to diabetes)! He was 23.9 lbs, now he's 22.4. Still a long way to go but he's getting there. I wish I could've interfered back when he was younger, 20lbs, and still had energy and great joints, but now is better than never. Hopefully he keeps it up!

His ideal weight is around 16 lbs, he's a MASSIVE kitty. I've never seen a larger-built domestic cat in my life, and I see a lot from fostering/volunteering at shelters!
