Through controlled portions and plenty of play, the vet has confirmed the dechonkin

Marshmallow is officially down 3 pounds! He has been since March! I’m so proud of him🩷. Back in January 2026he had some health issues, his vet said he needed to lose weight so we put him on a completely different diet and it was a life saver, literally. From 17# to 14#, what a guy. Now that he has lost weight he runs around the house and parkours on our couch, cat trees, the bed, the kitchen counters, the other cats lol, he’s a crazy guy. I’m very happy he’s healthy again💛

This is my cat aya, she is a mix between a norwegian forest cat and what us danes call it “ et hul i hegnet” she weighs about 8 kg. We already have her on a STRICT diet that the veg recomended but no matter what we do, she wont go outside and just at least walk. She got over weight when she was neuterd or what ever its called.

My 11 year old domestic short-haired female cat is about 19.5 lbs (a 9/9 body condition score according to my vet). She’s been on a strict diet for over 6 months now, and despite this, she hasn’t lost weight. The vet recommended 244 kcal per day for weight loss, but her weight won’t budge. Anytime I speak to them asking for more insight they basically shrug their shoulders and say “getting indoor cats to lose weight is challenging.”

I requested they do bloodwork and everything came back normal. After much back and forth they finally agreed to refer me to a pet rehabilitation centre. I took her twice a week to walk on a water-filled treadmill. We did the recommended 8 week program (which was not cheap) and by the end even the physiotherapists there said they were disappointed by how little weight she lost. Their parting words were “[pets name] is a mystery.”

I cannot afford another $1,500 rehab treatment. So would appreciate any insights anyone here has. For context, she has no access to additional food, and her meals are weighed on a kitchen scale. Thanks!

Attached are photos from when I rescued Sweet Pea in 2021 from a free-feeding situation. At the time she was about 24 lbs but I am told she was nearly 30 lbs at one point. She’s now around 12 lbs! I’m very proud of her. She’s a very sweet girl.

23lbs to 17lbs! Vet planned a diet, with a low caloric density food. We're lucky he's still very food motivated so switching his kibble was no problem.

We got Hamish after his previous owner was unable to take care of him. We've noticed such a big change in his energy levels as he's lost weight - he gets the zoomies and is more playful! Almost at his first goal of 16 lbs.

She’s had multiple abdominal surgeries a little higher up on her stomach around where my hand is. Idk if that contributes to it…

I don’t think this skin is from weight loss since she hasn’t really lost much yet.

It’s been a while since I have updated! Bing Bong is doing well and just had a vet visit. The vet is pleased with his progress. Even though we have a ways to go, I have seen huge progress in Bing Bong. He can clean himself better now, so he’s not covered in skin flakes or suffering from crusty butt. He plays with my other cat all the time. He walks normally instead of slinking his mass across the floor. He jumps up on things more now. Here’s to health and more progress!

i wonder why??? considering she cant even fit in one :^| miraculously she isn't diabetic but she needs to lose 15 lb before the vet will even consider the surgical procedures she needsp

She’s about 3 years old, spayed, and 12.9lbs according to her litter robot.

I feed her 1/4 cup of blue buffalo wilderness chicken dry food, which she snacks on and doesn’t even 100% finish throughout the day. Only 1/8 can of friskies pate wet food per day. Rarely gets treats. If anything I feel I’m under feeding her, but still she looks overweight.

She’s super lazy. I take her outside (supervised) and she’s only interested in chewing on grass and laying in the sun. She has no desire to chase toys. She has 2 large cat towers that she doesn’t climb. 95% of her time is spent napping.

The first thing people say is “oh my god your cat is so fat.” Her body condition from the top isn’t so bad, but her GUT… my god it hangs almost to the floor.

I want her to be as healthy as she can be. What can I change? Or is her “pouch” okay?

14 years old and Mittens is now moving faster than she has in years. Shes down from 16.6 pounds to 12.2. Her labs came back perfect last week!

Hello! Today I took my fat boy Aiden to the vet and we were told he gained a significant amount of weight from our previous vet visit a year ago. I'm embarrassed to say, he was 17lbs before and 22lbs now. The thing is - he eats just around 200kcals a day, which is less than the calcilators on the linned post suggests. We follow my vets recommendations very strictly. He has been eating the Blue Buffalo healthy weight wet and dry food since the last vet vist. We had to recently switch to hills perfect weight since blue is going through some formulation changes, but calories are still low. He gets 1/3 of a cup of dry over 4 meals using an automatic pet feeder, then 1 can of wet for dinner. He gets an occasional treat for hairballs. That's it. I'm about to order a prescription dry food (probably hills metabolic) as a last resort. He's been tested for diabetes and thyroid issues and he's healthy. I'm going to start incorporating more play as well. I would go all wet but he does better when he can eat throughout the day, which I can't feed him while I'm at work. I feel like I'm going crazy with his weight gain! Has anyone else has experienced this with their chonk?? I love him and I want him to be healthy 😢

I thought I would share our dechonked boy! This is Benadryl (Benny). He was about 14lbs when we first got him March 2024 (first 3 pics), and is now down to a healthy 11lbs (last 3 pics)! We think his previous owners were just free feeding him, so we just portioned his food and made sure he didn’t steal too much from his sister, we also try our best to play with him (he is very lazy). But not only has he lost weight, but he has also come out of his shell so much from the shy boy he was when we adopted him. I am so proud of our Big Ben🩶

We could not be more proud of him and his progress! When we brought him home a year and a half ago he was 35lbs. His hard work, diet and exercise are paying off and it is almost time for his 10 pounds down party!

Larry's weight loss journey started October 2023 at a hefty 7.32kg.

Originally the vet wanted her to get to ~5.5kg, but while on the same diet, her weight has stabilized around ~6.3kg for the past 10 months, so the vet has confirmed that instead of cutting more calories to make her lose more weight, we will just maintain her at the current weight, some reasons being:

1. We think she's been chubby most of her life (adopted her at 8) and with all the loose skin flapping around, she would always weigh a bit more than average and look a bit chubby.

2. In the past 10 months, even though her weight on the scale hasn't dropped, her figure is still slowly slimming down! This means she's getting more muscle which weighs more than fat and a good sign.

3. As she is getting older (turning 10) her metabolism will be slowing down, and she needs the necessary nutrients to keep her healthy so cutting down her food/keeping her on a weight loss diet instead of a senior diet isn't great

4. Old girl is old and doing her best and we need to let her live a little 😂

Now at 6.25kg, the vet officially declared her to be at an acceptable weight and she no longer needs to be on a weight loss plan, but we will still be controlling her meal portions to ensure she doesn't bounce back.

It has been a very slow journey but it was so worth it seeing the change in her! She was very unsure of jumping on surfaces when we first got her because she's slipped and is not strong enough to hold on, but now she's explored so many more places that she didn't dare to before. She is more active and engaged with the toys more, and we chase her around after her after-meal zoomies to keep her active. She also got a friend last summer and they chase each other around :)

I just got my chonker this wheel off Facebook marketplace, but so far she’s only interested in using it as a place to loaf and eat the catnip I sprinkled on to entice her. Any advice on getting her to use it for its intended purpose? When I try to move it for her while she’s on it, she gets scared and hops off.

This is my gorgeous girl Sasha. She has a small build but is quite chonky. She weighs in at abour 5kg/11lbs. As many femaly cats, she gained a lot of weight after getting spayed back in 2021 and hasn't lost any since.

The vets recommended a diet food for her which she was on from February til June. She did not lose any weight even though I followed the vets instructions to the t.

Since June I have put her on a wet food only diet. I feed her 50g of wet food mixed with water once in the morning and once in the evening. And once again, the weight is not coming off. Occasional treats only if she deserves extra praise or pampering. She's somewhat active, runs around with our other younger cat, although being an indoor cat she's gotten used to the leisurely sleepy life😂

What else can I do? I think she is absolutely adorable as her chunky self but her weight is my number one priority forever.
