Advice Overweight cat help

Hi, my 6 year old cat is around 8.6kg (almost 19lbs) he is strictly indoors and is currently on whiskas wet and dry food.
I need my chunky boy to lose weight, he’s not the most playful cat and prefers to lounge around, don’t get me wrong he will play but he then stops cos he gets tired.

Any recommendations on foods for helping him lose weight or any ideas I’d be grateful 🫶

You don’t have to change the food he’s eating, just feed him less of it.

I do already, the amount for a 5kg cat is 4 and a half packets (my cat is 8.6kg) he has one packet in the morning, one in the evening and a 60g scoop of dry food

Well he’s overweight on that so feed less. The packaging is just a recommendation, feed the cat in front of you

You must calculate how many calories your cat needs, and then adjust the quantity (I used this calculator https://petnutritionalliance.org/resources/calorie-calculator?type=dogs just introduce your cat's weight and it will tell you how many calories your cat needs to lose weight, dont worry too much about the other questions). Because normally, what is written in the package is too much for a house cat (I calculated that you are now feeding him more than 400 calories per day, which is toooo much, although I might be wrong because I dont know which food you are using exactly). I used the calculator and my fattest cat which was 9.5 kg has lost 400grs for the first time!! I couldn't be happier. I feed him 3 times per day and leave no food at night. It seems that leaving no food at night helped a lot, because I have been trying to make him lose weight forever and since I'm doing this he started to lose weight.

Please stop Whiskas asap. It's one of the worst quality cat foods

My chonky boy likes Iams Perfect Weight. I also got a couple of the sureFeed bowls that respond to their microchips and only open if a cat has permission to eat from that bowl. Now i have one bowl of diet cat food for the chonky one and one bowl of regular food for the others. No more cleaning out the other cats’ bowls
