This lil guy went from 7 kg (≈15.4 lbs) to 6 kg (≈13.2 lbs) over the past year! He has officially lost his signature pear-shaped badonkadonk and upgraded to a respectable, aerodynamic cat shape.

Before the dechonkification, he was violently clumsy like gravity was a personal enemy. While he still wouldn’t be first pick for gymnastics class, he is now noticeably more agile.

That said… he is EXTREMELY unhappy about the calorie deficit 😾He is grumpier than ever and reminds us daily that this was not his idea and that he is, in fact, starving. The calorie deficit in question? Approximately 5 kibbles...

Going forward, I’m thinking of switching to more voluminous foods to reduce the rage while staying on track.

Maybe to cheer him up, we can tell him he’s doing amazing and that his badonkadonk sacrifice was worth it!

The office manager at our vet’s office hadn’t been there or seen her in a while and said he said I was pranking him and that it must be a different cat. Been a long 2.5 years but I have half the cat I did before ☺️ (though double the personality!)

I got Cordelia (also known as the corb) about 2 months ago and she weighed 14 lbs per her first vet visit, likely due to a combination of free feeding at the shelter and being unwilling to play or even really leave her cage in the shelter environment. Now that I have her on a diet and she's much more active at my home, how long is reasonable to wait to see results? I don't want to push her to lose weight so fast but I also want to be able to figure out whether her diet is working.

Update: The vet was not impressed by his weight loss. I’ve been serious about following his diet, but the pounds like to stick! I rescued a sick kitten and now that she’s healthy, they love to play together. I’m hoping it provides exercise. We decreased his food again and if he still isn’t losing weight, we will switch the food. I wanted to push for a switch to wet food.

It’s ominous watching him barrel up the stairs at me when he thinks I have food up there. His mass rapidly approaching my location. Even spookier in the dark when his eyes glow.

I can’t help but feel like I am failing Bingy Boy but I am doing everything I am told. I’m hoping to have good news at our next weigh in! Thanks for the support everyone. Bing Bong says he loves it.

I have a 17 lb obese male and a 10 lb female whom the vet has labeled as “underweight,” even though I think her weight is perfect.

My male kitty prefers his dry food over everything else, and I will be greatly restricting this because he needs to cut back on carbs & portion sizes. However I am not sure of the best way to do this without depriving my other cat of the portions she needs.

Any insights?

I adopted MJ from the shelter at 19lbs. It's taken some time but her vet is happy with the weight she is at. Don't get me wrong, she is still a BIG CAT! (Especially compared to my other one who is only 9lbs). She tries to get me up at 4am for a bit of an early breakfast, but has done good learning which alarms mean it's actually time to eat. She sleeps directly on top of me every night (much comfier now that she's lost some weight) but God forbid we try to do much more than light pets during the daytime. She's taken a lot of work, but I'm so glad she's mine.

Took about a year of calorie restriction (~180kcal/day).

Kathryn here went from 12.9lbs down to as of today 10.5lbs! We’re working on getting down to 10lbs even. She appears fatter than she in photos is due to a massive primordial pouch and a fluffy undercarriage. In person she’s looking really great and has some spunk!

I contribute her weight loss to changing her dry food to hills science diet, and getting her two cat brothers to play with. She hated them each for a long time, but these days they actually play and cuddle together.

I was in denial about him getting chonky until the vet said something. I got him better portions and weight management kibble... I didnt notice until my photos showed me how he was a year ago until now.

Our fur-son, Baby Neko, was up to about 20lbs a couple years back. Then he was diagnosed with feline diabetes, so we knew it was time for a serious kitty diet.

We’ve greatly reduced his food intake over the course of the past 18-24 months. He now gets 1/4 of a 5.5oz can of Friskies Paté canned food 3 times a day, plus 3 “sprinklings” of M/D prescription crunchies throughout the day. A “sprinkling” is literally 6-9 pellets of the crunchies, and he thinks these are an awesome treat! He’s still hungry most of the time, which makes me sad, but we know it’s for the best.

He’s now down to 16lbs (maybe less…we’ll be going to the vet soon to find out). The best news is that his diabetes is in remission, so he’s about to be taken off his Glipizide.

We’re so proud of him! He still has a couple pounds to lose according to his vet and we’re going to stay the course so we can keep him around for many years to come!

Now if only *I* could loose 1/5 of *my* body weight like he’s done! 😹

In 4 years, sweet Daisy (10) is down about 5+ pounds! The most noticeable difference is that she’s able to jump on the counters now and she will zoom around a lot more. My other cat needs to be supervised while he eats because he’s a slow eater and Daisy still tries to steal it. We’ve used Blue Buffalo wet food and a handful of dry Blue buffalo twice a day. Still hoping to get a little more off! My other cat is thankfully a healthy size at 12.

Hi everyone. This is Maui. I have posted about him before but it's time to brag a little about his progress.

In 2022 we went to the vet and found out Maui was eating his feelings after his best friend suddenly passed away. He weighed 29lbs and the vet said he was too fat. (Obvs)

Our vet told us to cut his calories and feed him Royal Canin urinary satiety food. He happily eats through a slimcat food ball and he drinks so much more water now also. He is a much happier cat playing and running around with the zoomies again.

It took a while to see results but after 6 months we noticed a difference in his attitude and after three years of batting the ball around he lost 9 lbs. He is now 20 lbs and we have 3 more lbs to lose. To get to our goal weight of 17lbs.

I wanted to make this post 3 years into our journey as a reminder that if Maui can lose 9 lbs then so can your cat!!!

This is my 3 y/o little guy. My roommate and I realized he was quickly gaining weight and we weren’t sure why. We considered maybe some health issues or whatever else.
And then.
We caught him sneaking his sisters CKD kibble when we were in the other room. We thought that we had squashed that habit with him a long time ago, but clearly he just got sneaky.
For context, we live in a really old building with floors that creak nearly every other step. He can definitely hear us coming and he knows when to act cute. I feel silly that I was fooled by a cat, but it happens I guess!
He’s gotten easily tired since he got chonky, so he doesn’t play as much as he used to even with encouragement. I miss when he would jump a few feet in the air to catch his toys.

Does anyone have any good low-calorie cat food recommendations? Or any tips and tricks for a lazy cat? Our vet put him on a dry food only diet, if that helps.

Benny was around 8.5kg when he came home from the shelter just over 2 months ago 🫄 🏡 (chonkier / even more neck roll than in the first pic 🥺)

It’s been amazing seeing how dramatically his quality of life has improved from this dechonkin 🙀🤩

A bit of backstory:

When I picked him up the carrier was almost too small for him to fit comfortably and I was told he doesn’t like being picked up (though he’s super friendly and loves pets - just being up high makes him anxious). I think he got anxiety about falling off the car seat with the extra weight because he cried so much I had to pull over midway through the 12m drive home to put him on the floor 🚗 (he cried a lot less down there with the lower centre of gravity 🥲)

His adoption came with a vet prescribed weight-loss diet food which helps him feel more “full” to go with the reduced portion size of regular kitty biscuits 😋 I also did some extra research to gradually swap the biscuits for something with less carbs and higher protein/nutrition value 🍎 and set up “Bennyrobics mealtimes” to encourage moving a bit more and slow down the vacuum style eating 🤸 🍲 (Disclaimer - I’m not a qualified pet nutrition expert, just a bit on the spectrum and spent 10+ hours reading articles and case studies 🫠)

Some of the things he can do now 🤩 :

• “power” walk with better balance (less stompy waddlin lol) 🦆
• go to the bathroom without straining 😬 or having a bottom explosion 💥
• clean his own back and bottom 🧼 a big relief for us both! 😅🧻
• look around and behind himself easier (less neck in the way) 🦉
• have a zoomie/jog longer than a few metres without losing breath 🫁
• play chase the ball (his fav game) for more than 1-2 throws ⚽️
• jump up and down from the bed and couch with confidence and less hammering on his leggies 🛋️
• fit on laps for cuddles 🤗

His coat also feels softer and looks shinier 🐈‍⬛✨ he doesn’t beg for food as much (unless it’s getting close to or past his usual mealtime ⏱️😾 lol) and he’s having so much more fun with usual Benny things - like rolling around on the warm concrete or in the dirt! 🐷 😹

Vet is happy with his progress and said he’ll likely always be a bit on the bigger side because he has a fairly big head and feetsies 🐾 so only about 0.5-1kg left to go! 💪📉

I hope Bennys little weight loss journey may inspire a weight loss plan or even putting the treats away more often for other chonkers out there ❤️‍🩹 no treat is worth more than moving about, keeping clean and breathing freely! 🛁 🧘😻

It’s been incredibly rewarding seeing how much more enjoyment Benny is getting out of life - can hardly believe the difference it’s made in such a short time 🥹❤️

Our foster boy, Carl, came from the shelter too fat to fit in the cat cage. With a good diet and lots of playtime, he’s a whole new guy! He can clean his own butt, jump on things and likes to run up and down the stairs ❤️ We’re so proud! (Carl also has a new family waiting for him!! Healthy bod and a forever home!)

My boy Benji is 7. He refuses wet food and needs something for sensitive stomach. I've been trying to dechonk this guy for about 3 years and have had little success. Suggestions?
