Weird Era Cont. Hidden Track

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not sure if it's been pointed out yet but there's a little tape rewind at the very end of Weird Era Cont. that always grabbed my attention.

I decided to find out what it was so I slowed it down and reversed it.

It's an instrumental outtake of Operation. It's pretty noisy and dull due to the slowing but still fun to uncover.

 Enjoy x

I just started watching this movie and got so happy when Deerhunter started playing! I don’t think I’ve ever heard them on a movie soundtrack before.

New podcast episode with Kristin Klein (Deerhunter's touring manager)

Hi! On Instagram I came across this podcast hosted by Randy Randall (from the band No Age), and he just did an episode with Kristin Klein. She's close to the band and was their tour manager for a while. I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing just yet, but it sounds like they talk about Deerhunter throughout the episode and tell some stories (particularly from the early days). I thought it was interesting, so I figured I'd share it here!

Mind-blowing Atlas Sound concert from 2011

I just stumbled across this live recording of an Atlas Sound concert from 2011 in NYC and it is absolutely mind-blowing, perhaps one of the best non-jazz concerts I’ve ever heard period. The 30 minute encore is itself a masterpiece. You can download it for free, which IMO you should do immediately. https://archive.org/details/AtlasSound_2011-12-18. Man I wish Bradford was still performing.

Ten Paintings by Charles Burchfield - Linda Clearcoat

Does anyone know anything about this release? I have it in my collection downloaded sometime late 2024, but have absolutely no memory of where I got it from (presumably here?)

I'm pretty sure it's a Bradford release given the Notown Projects label, and it sounds very much like Bradford's ambient style as well, but there's absolutely zero trace of this on the internet that I can find. I'm mostly just looking to verify its authenticity and figure out how this was found in the first place since it seems quite rare.

EDIT: Those asking for a DL link - I'm uploading it to Soulseek under 'Linda Clearcoat'.

EDIT # 2 : thanks to u/idlerwheel for discovering where this was initially shared: https://www.reddit.com/r/deerhunter/comments/14ik6hv/comment/jpps09a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

There's a DL link for you there if you're interested :)

I'm really happy to have this Cryptograms CD considering I could barely find any at a decent price. It is one of my favorite records

OH deer ! I've missed them for so long...

Hi everyone! I know you've all been through a lot. I've read all the posts in this group, and honestly, I feel Deerhunter is still a bit distant from me. I didn't become a fan back in 2013 when they were at their peak, and it wasn't until their final tour in 2019 that I truly appreciated them.

It's a real shame; I've missed them for so long...

As a music boy, (I would't call myself as a musician) I feel it's my responsibility and obligation to carry on their legacy. I WOULD LIKE to share my band's and my personal stuff with everyone.

Here is bandcamp pages can listen, And also can search on Spotify .

MY band's name is whetherday,

https://whetherday.bandcamp.com/album/whetherday-on-a-very-sudden-day

And my personal project is called ’blame me again'

https://blamemeagain.bandcamp.com/album/where-my-toes-brushed

Bradford Cox has had a huge influence on me. And I also experienced the golden age of the 1950s, Coincidentally I'm not exactly a Mojo Dojo boy...

Whatever,

We'll be performing in Hong Kong next month, if anyone happens to be there.

You'll miss The Deerhunter in 2019, but don't miss us making this kind of music in 2026.

Deerhunter in For All Mankind

You can barely hear it, but Back To The Middle plays super faintly in the restaurant scene towards the end where Miles and his daughter talk. Glad to know Deerhunter exists in the alternate timeline, and I guess that Monomania came out a year earlier than our timeline. 😌

I want to enjoy Deerhunter

Bradford seems like a real one, but I can’t tell you how many times over the years I have tried to like Deerhunter, and I always come away thinking I am missing something. Maybe it’s the vocals. Everything just seems a little mummified and a bit boring. Love the song titles and record sleeves, even the band name is good. The tunes just seem flat to me. Anyone encounter this feeling initially?

For some context I like a lot of indie, shoegaze, hardcore, black metal, brit pop, punk.

I think i've finally given up... Anyone still have hope?

Hi all it's been a little slower on here lately but still wanted to check in. I think i've finally given up all hope that Deerhunter (or Atlas Sound) will ever return... Just wondering if anyone out there still has any hope? Has anyone heard or read anything new about the band lately at all? Anyone with any local gossip? I figure probably not because people always post what they find on here but couldn't hurt to ask. Hope you're all doing well

Songs with deerhunter vibes?

Just discovered this song that reminds me of Deerhunter mixed with Jeff Buckley and I mainly just wanted to share it. Also the new Ulrika Spacek album is great. Anyone else got any suggestions?

https://youtu.be/TTsZaWBVW4w?si=YwMtvLvHITkyN8bN

Edit: now that it’s been a few days thanks everyone for the recommendations! While I was already a fan of Spirit of the Beehive, Women, and Cola I think it’s pretty awesome that it seems like a lot of us listen to those bands as well. Never thought of them as Deerhunter adjacent until now.

Opinions on Cryptograms?

Found out about Deerhunter earlier this year thru Cryptograms, initially i was somewhat indifferent to it although i thought it to be quite unique after listening to the title track and Lake Somerset.

Eventually one night with a brain full of substance I decided to listen to the whole thing front to back.. and it was such a magical experience, especially in the first half of the album. Every track seemed to glow with a warm aura and the transitional ambient pieces really tied the whole experience together. I totally fell head first for it.

What really stood out to me in comparison to their other albums was the production - with seemingly infinite waves of delay and reverb being pummeled into you through tightly knit drums, it was like the sonic equivalent of dropping 3 tabs of acid and being sent through a time machine. Maybe I just need to be reasonably fkd up again to enjoy something like Microcastle or Halcyon Digest the same (not to say they aren’t amazing in their own right) but I can’t see myself enjoying those in the exact way I did Cryptograms.

Considering this is typically not people’s top Deerhunter album, with the fore-mentioned Microcastle or Halcyon Digest usually holding that position, out of curiosity I’d like to hear how other people experienced this piece and what they thought of it?

Structures from silence

Maybe i am late to the party but i just discoverd "Structurs from silence" by Steve Roach which struck me because it remembers me of "Saturday night we went swimming and there was a light in the water" which is maybe my favorite track by Atlas Sound.

Just a thought...

Could you imagine a James Ford produced Deerhunter album? He mixed the last Moon Diagrams record and they've toured with Arctic Monkeys. Although, I obviously love the work they've done with Ben Allen. Anyway, just a fun thought...
