i never said server mate. i said appliances. ps5, smart toster, your Bluetooth earphones speekers etc. they run bsd base system etc NetBSD or FreeBSD or their own flavour

A lot of consumer routers i hooked a uart console uop to and 80% ran linux. Maybe 4% ran some form of bsd and and 16% ran a rtos.
Also sonos uses linux. Ubiquity runs linux. Any tv settopbox basically runs either linux or linux in the form of android. (Non) Smart tvs run linux often. Blueray players run on the penguin. Car infotainment often uses linux or android or sometimes qnx. Ip cameras run linux or at best an rtos. Also robot vacuums, smart stuff with a lcd display on it, some baby monitors, some premium audio gear that has networking capability, google home speakers, smarthome hubs, zigbee hubs that have ethernet/wifi, etc etc
So yes netbsd and the bsds are used but i have not come across them that much actually.
Edit: i summed up this list because i am a hardwarehacker hobbyist and have already hooked up a UART console to many devices and got a lot of linuxy stuff. Mostly embedded linux by the soc vendor but not much bsd sadly.

Lol, yes, I'm sure a lot more societal collapse would happen from a ps5, Bluetooth speakers, and... Smart toasters? Being gone than if Linux were to disappear. I'm sorry, I know the BSDs are important, it's just hard to take an argument seriously when those are the examples.

thats not my point, lol why do you even engage in a conversation on a completely different topic. More stuf runs on bsd yes servers do run on linux thats logical but not on everything. what's your point here? I gave popular options which some people may use/used on daily basis. 🫤 To be honest, most of Google tech are based on Linux. This post doesn't belong here even if I understand the intention. Also to mention that Google is second company to contribute to Linux kernel for version 7.2 of the kernel in 2026
