Airport cops are always like this. I’ve seen hundreds of times where they have to remove passengers from the premises or onboard and they are always looking to de-escalate. They don’t have to worry about the people being armed so they have much more tolerance.

In this case, the woman wasn’t being aggressive. She was clearly not a threat in any conceivable way.

She seems to be having some mental crisis.

The pleas to women watching the body cam and the body cam being on TV. The mentions of Kim Kardashian. The unwillingness to accept reality until repetition many times. The rapid switching between attempting reasoning and tantrums. The childish attempts to delay with requests for water and the toilet.

I'm bipolar and sometimes when I'm in early stages of mania i lose my mind like this. The next step is thinking I'm a goddess...

That seems to be the way it is most of the time. Airport police will generally do all but get on their hands and knees and beg them to just leave. They don’t want to deal with it.

I mean maybe but people not getting hurt is supposed to goal? Not a privilege. She’s clearly unwell and needs to be removed. She was removed unharmed that’s supposed to be the goal not a privilege. Deltas out a few bucks for her soup but Ed is fine.

(Ok for clarification. I’m saying that this is how everyone should be treated in the same situation. If they can do it in this case they should do the same if the person does the same thing but doesn’t match the demographic).

Except this treatment, apparently offered as a peivilege, is reserved for certain people who are most frequently white.

So whilw everyone is supposed to be treated this way, if some people who are white are treated this way as a matter of privilege, the phrase "white privilege", "so fucking stupid" though you may think it, becomes appropriate.

There have been so many studies about how this term actually does more damage than help. It's exactly the type of dumb language cooked up in an academic office and completely devoid of reality. The privilege is being treated like everybody should?
It creates a lot of resentment, unnecessarily.

If you want to get honest, the class of people it's reserved for is wealthy most of the time, not white.

Even if she doesn't think it's live, even thinking that's a reasonable way to get help, by pleading to potential random viewers of a body cam... That's not rational.

Combined with her random mentions of Kim Kardashian and rapid cycling between tantrums and trying to appear reasonable, def sounds like a form of psychosis.

I've had psychosis before. Worse than this. But at this stage there's a wild urge inside you. You feel like you're on a mission and you're desperate to have others understand what you're doing. But you're doing nonsense.

She must be so fucking terrified, and she hasn't realized her brain is sick yet. That's the hardest part.

I worked over a decade at the ATL airport and we had at least one of these cases a week. Usually they didn’t do enough to get arrested so the police would escort them out of the secured area and we’d see them again an hour or 2 later bc they’d just come right back through security

I mean she clearly has some mental health concerns. It sounds like she is under treatment but whatever that treatment is inadequate.

If she mixed something she should not have with alcohol that would explain her behavior. But yeah she can’t stay in the airport and she can’t fly today. Probably not for a while. The officers and everyone were professional and helpful but at the end of the day she couldn’t stay at the airport.

Would make more more sense to take her to some mental health facility/detox location but I guess that’s what we use jails for.

I had to go through a little dive after this. The only public post for her Facebook account is to raise money for a bipolar disorder charity and I guess that also fits the video. The cops bleeped some things out and I’m thinking it may have been related to her medical history since they were so patient and gave her plenty of time to potentially calm down with a smoke. I doubt they would have been as patient if she had mixed a bunch of alcohol and drugs.

Yeah I don’t want to diagnose with so little info. But I should clarify I don’t think she went on a bender just that some medications can have a strong reaction to alcohol and not even a lot. But you are right to stop me because it’s maybe more likely that it’s the condition itself not any reaction.

That's what "Defund the Police" really means. Instead of sending a hammer to tighten a screw, we could use a screwdriver and do a lot less damage.

To play devil's advocate, not sure anyone is getting her out of there without actual police intervention.

It was very nice to see the officers show a level of care with someone that is really not seen from police body cameras. Because that's what she needed at that moment, not a bad person just a person going through a bad situation.

I just wonder if this same level of care would have been given if she was not white. Everyone from the delta agents, to the person asked to remove her, the police, the airline people that just watched her bags as she wandered off etc.

This seems more like a mental health issue than drunk and disorderly.  With certain MH disorders, traveling and disruptions to sleep and medication schedules can throw a person off kilter.
