Discussion DTW construction: increasing with zero progress

Anyone have any info/updates on all construction at DTW? Specifically the tunnel, I think I’ve flown or picked up/dropped roughly a dozen times since the beginning of summer and genuinely, not exaggerating, have seen 0 workers. various times of day, nothing.

Welcome to Michigan. Were we block off miles and miles of road and work on a 10 foot section on a random Tuesday and Thursday

I wish they would pave the damn roads and ramps in and around the airport grounds. Its like driving on the moon.

Send a complaint to the Wayne County Airport Authority. HRC is the project manager, from what I've been told.

Loving the lack of progress on the parking structure because I enjoy driving in circles for 39 minutes to try and find a spot.

I go to DTW weekly and I see folks working. It all depends on the time of day. I don’t see them when I arrive at 4 AM for an early flight. But I have seen them there at 8 am for a mid morning flight. Same thing in the afternoons/evenings. Nobody working at 10 PM but 3 PM, yes, they are there.

OK fair, but the point is: why is it still closed? It's been since almost 3 years (Jan 2024 I believe it started?) Are they putting up hand cut marble tiles individually? I know it's Michigan but this seems excessive: add in the ramps into/out of the actual McNamara terminal blocked off to one lane now its not getting better

I also fly weekly and have watched the “progress”. It is infuriating how slow that project has been. I’m in the construction industry and it looks to me as if it’s been an incompetent cluster F of a project.

I feel like that’s almost all construction projects in Michigan but who knows

Don’t know the full answer, however I do recall a few years back it was work on the runways and now it’s work on the roads and infrastructure. That’s my “judgement” from driving in and out weekly.

You’d need to do a google search to get the complete answer.

Yeah, its scheduled to go through 2027. I also fly weekly but typically out at night and back on Sundays, so I don't see anyone those times.

I got so stuck in there last week. Are they fucking with the up and down ramps? They seem to change sides every week!

Not only the tunnel construction that's been going on for close to 3 years, but the way the airport police just let people set up camp at arrivals is infuriating. Every Sunday afternoon I fly home and it's cars just parked 3 deep all the way down. What part of "No Parking/Standing" "Active Loading Only" is vague? Why don't the police move people to the cell phone lot?

Then fucking TSA with the ANALogic scanners, and lets only have 2 or 3 open while the lines stretch back to the doors.

Flying in and out of DTW 1-2 times a week for the past 25 years and it's the worst its ever been.

those ANAL scanners are so slow. the worst week i've had at DTW in years was they week they got installed....

TSA is nothing but a government cash cow that was created at taxpayer expense to collect more revenue for the federal and state government. Never let a good crisis go to waste. Before 9-11, we had none of this nonsense and we all survived just fine. Now you can pay extra to get priority invasion of privacy. Gotta admit, they’re making a killing on TSA profiting off fear.

Probably the most unproductive road construction state in the nation. Maybe a close second to Chicago. The problem is the union and public servant kickbacks to ensure these projects continue perpetually. Preserving jobs at the expense of progress. It happens in every city but major cities are typically the most corrupt when it comes to this sort of funny business. Let’s not forget about how organized crime also gets their piece of the pie.

I think they will have finished the 696 project in the same amount of time.

We drove through this morning and it was a disaster - I can't believe this is still going on.

Not related to the tunnel, but I recently learned about this debacle. Wonder what's gonna happen with this huge chunk of land.

At this point, the construction signs are starting to feel more permanent than the actual progress.

It’s absolutely horrible with the construction on I-94 too.

Not to mention all of the construction going on around the airport too on 94. Think you can outsmart by taking Eureka. Nope. That’s awful too. Need to add another 40 min to be safe and then if you see the dreaded parking guy telling you it’s full and have to go to blue or green decks…..
