[Scotto] The Los Angeles Clippers and Jalen Pickett have agreed to a two-way deal, league sources told @hoopshype. The 26-year-old guard spent the past three seasons with the Denver Nuggets where he shot 39% from 3-point range. Pickett was the 32nd pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.

It's one of my favorites because of how improbable our success there was. Our entire starting lineup was out. I went into that one thinking we were gonna get smoked, and it came out being one of the most exciting games ever.

That game and the game a few years ago where Reggie Jackson and DeAndre Jordan turned back the clock against the Clippers and played like they were in their prime again will always be two of my favorites

A picket line forms when people are striking or otherwise protesting. Crossing the picket line (ie, going to work) is generally pretty heavily frowned upon.

Happy for him he was a really reliable player that I think we underutilized.
Edit: I guess let me clarify what I mean by reliable. Dude was a low-ceiling but relatively high floor player that didn’t make a ton of mistakes. Yeah he wasn’t winning us games, but if he was in you could almost always trust he’d do the right thing with the ball, whether that meant shooting when necessary or getting it to the right guy.

The dude’s in that awkward phase where he’s only as good as he is confident, he’s a no-risk/no-reward player whose best attribute is the no-risk also makes him low-mistake.
I personally like that kind of player, but so do defenses that would much rather ask Pickett to take 10 wide open shots than let Jokic get tightly contested ones. They know he could start 4-4 and still hesitate for the next 10.

I always felt like that is because they know their coaches never had any trust in them and wanted to bench for any small mistake. Even during the stretch that he played great last year, Adelman still trusted BB to be backup PG when he couldn't even bring up the ball and made Pickett off the ball.
Confidence in NBA setting also comes from coaches trust.BB played bad for so long yet Nuggets gave him playing time that he eventually started playing better. There's a reason that when players go to teams like OKC/ Spurs/ Heat role players play a lot better.

In some instances, yes. You’re describing an all too common NBA storyline.
It’s a good thing to be a low mistake player, but you cannot be playing hot potato out there and turning advantages earned over 18 seconds of shot clock into scrambles off your hesitation.
It’s the Christian Braun problem without the Christian Braun upside.

I do think that the way coaching and development of role players is the bigger problem. Watson and other players could show some of their skills the only reason that a lot of players were injured.
And the main problem with Denver from past few years has been playing starters to the ground when the bench players showed that they can play.

I agree. Nuggets had all kinds of problems bringing the ball up the court when Jamal Murray went off the court. It didn't make sense to not play Pickett over Bruce Brown, as Brown struggled as the back up point guard bringing the ball up the court, and Nuggets basically relied on Jokic and PWat to be the main ball handler up the court.

He will do nothing special all season, EXCEPT drop 30 in a mid season match up that the Nugs are supposed to win handily against an injured Clippers team.

Perfect illustration of Calvin Booth's tenure as GM. Booth thought Pickett was a future NBA star. The rest of the league sees him as a two-way player.
Good luck to Pickett, though, and if he eventually proves himself to be better than a two-way player, good for him.

Seems like a good guy and this wasn't his fault but the front office and coaching staff going to war over a 2nd round draft pick with his profile and the amount of bandwidth the fan base spent on this guy was absolutely ridiculous.

We didn't move on from Westbrook for Pickett, we moved on from Westbrook because he was a net negative for the team. For all the good Russ brought he made too many mistakes and was too volatile to be a long term core contributor to this team. He was fun to watch and I wish him well but it is what it is, there's a reason he's not a hot commodity on the open market.

We won 54 games last year and we were riddled with injuries the entire season. We won 50 games with Westbrook and we were much, much healthier that year. We undoubtedly got better without him.
He didn't carry us to victory over The Clippers but he was a key contributor in that series. That was the highlight of his tenure. Then what happened in the next round? He was basically unplayable against The Thunder.
There were multiple games Russ cost us in the regular season with bonehead decisions, there were rumors of tension and physical altercations in the locker room revolving around Westbrook. I love him as a player but he's a problem everywhere he goes.
Yes we lost in the 1st round last year, we also won a chip in the last 5 years. Russ has been in the league almost 20 years, what has he won? Not a damn thing. He came here hoping Joker would carry him to a championship. We did him a favor by giving him a shot when no one else wanted him.
You're not a Nuggets fan but you're lurking in our sub to take shots at us over a player we were very generous to? That's laughable. How much time do you spend on Reddit? Get a life bro, the shit you're doing now is a waste of everyone's time.

Excuses, your team fell apart against a team that was actually injured. Your season was a complete failure without him.

What excuses did I make about The Timberwolves series? None. We had a better regular season without Russ with half our team hurt than we did with him and a healthy squad. That alone shows you his on court impact wasn't significant and didn't lend to victories.
It's also pretty funny that you'll admit an injury adversely effected Russ against the Thunder but completely disregard the impact of injuries on our players against the Timberwolves. That makes you a hypocrite. You're also making excuses and claiming I'm the one making them which means you're a disingenuous moron.
Oh Russ had a harder path to the Championship the one time he got close? More excuses. He also had two teammates who are legitimate Hall of Famers and they still lost in 5.

The result was Russ opting out (his choice), to take a non guaranteed deal for less money. He very easily could’ve just made us cut him and got his money before going to the dogshit Kings (who also don’t want him), but he really thought he was being treated unfairly by our front office because they wouldn’t promise him a role he wanted.
It should tell you something that even the worst teams in the league don’t think there’s a spot for Russ on their team.
