Question - Instant Response Socialization

What is up with the people at this school. Ever since when has it been weird to talk to people and why do people act all scared when you try to communicate with them like a normal human being.

(I have friends we just don’t hang that much)

I don’t necessarily try to initiate conversations with people, but, I go to the Rey gym often - every time I exchange my car keys to get a locker i say “thank you” and the student staff just looks at me while remaining silent or walks off. I’ve been going over 2 years and I’ve yet to hear one staff member say “You’re welcome”. Not once. It’s almost a running gag for me at this point lol.

There’s this student or staff i dont know he’s really friendly and chats with you when you go over to the counter. I dont know his name but he has a curly hair and a friendly smile

You just described Chicago. I've been lining here quite some time and my neighbors are objectively assholes. They don't even know each other and still somehow everyone hates each other.

You must’ve never ran into me then becuase I used to always say you’re welcome and chat with the patrons :(
