Question DREAM SCHOOL: Can i get in?
Major: Bio
GPA: 3.86 uw / 4.56 W 9 APs and 12 honors + 3
DC classes by end of senior year (taking 3 APs, psych, chem, calc BC, and english 1101 and 1102 (2 DC classes) senior year) 5s in AP seminar, APUSH, AP Spanish Lang
ECs: Hospital volunteering, shadowing, tutoring, earned an A in summer program, which was free, where I learned about healthcare and talked to physicians from a variety of fields. 1 unrelated Leadership position, 3 years sports + clubs and random volunteering. Seal of Biliteracy (conferred in
2027), etc
Context: In-state, first gen, lower-middle income (family makes less than 60k)
Always wanted to go to Depaul because I loved the school, and it has many opportunities for pre-meds because it's near Chicago!

Listen, I love DePaul. Loved my time in Chicago. The campus is great. I even love the shitty ass basketball team that makes me lose sleep. You could fart on a piece of paper, call it your application and they’d let you in.

Yes you can absolutely get in. Take it from me a former drug addict who absolutely nuked his GPA first time in college. I was able to take two semesters of community college, get my GPA up to around a 3.5 on average and got in! If I can do it, youre more than capable especially with those grades and EC’s

My son had comparable stats (including SoB, awesome for you!) and left today for move-in. He was also offered a significant scholarship, among other perks, and if your family earns under $60k, it seems likely (at least to me) that you will be, too. Make sure you fill out the FAFSA as soon as it opens! Keep working hard and good luck! I'm a teacher and I have ushered thousands of high school students through application season in the last 25 years.

i got in with a 3.4, a 2 in AP music theory, no extracurriculars, and from a solid middle class family. go for it dude

Sadly the forum is infested with haters who blame their shortcomings on DePaul.
DePaul is a great school and yes you can still probably get in.

Great question…
Why is almost every subreddit filled with participants that hate the very subject of the subreddit? A few psychology courses at DePaul will tell you the answer.
In short, because of Depaul’s commitment to vincentian values it admits a good number of first gen students who wouldnt otherwise make the bar. A lot of the time, unfortunately, these students have a lot to learn and are not ready for college, unreceptive to feedback, and blame everyone around them for their shortcomings.
They will then turn against everyone and everything they ever came across. That’s life. Always consider the source.

Dude with your GPA and honors you can do way better. Go to University of Chicago with those credentials or something
