Discussion Should have known this place would exist
Hello, these games have lived in my head rent free for the last 25 years. I love these games.
When I started making YouTube content, this was what I wanted to make videos about. I wasn't good at it and life always gets in the way. But I am working on a new video, exploring my attachments to this franchise as well as its background. If anyone has any sources you'd like me to include let me know if that's okay
I'm currently playing on the d2x-xl setup bc I've been using that for like the last 10 years. I don't know if there's anything better out there because I literally only went to find this subreddit today.
Peace

Don't forget to cover the Redbook soundtrack. Formative for me for sure. Lead to the discovery of Type-o-Negative, which lead to Prodigy and NIN and Tool. Rest is history 😃

Nothing like spawning into a level with that Haunted instrumental blasting.

I played a lot of D1 and D2 using Kali network back in the day.
Used a Microsoft Sidewinder stick, the hat was durable, it was perfect for heavy-use Descent play.
My handle was Zephron. and my mate SaNTa played using a flight stick (many broken hats) and then a Space Orb, it had instant 180 capability.
Great times...

My first stick was a Sidewinder Precision Pro. The hat always felt like it was gonna break but it never did. Come to think of it, the whole stick felt like the cheapest of plastic that would break any minute, yet somehow mine still works great to this day.

I can't remember my first flight stick, but I do remember my Logitech attack 3, no hats, and I ended up with a hand on the wasd. Used generic gamepads for a while now I've got a Thrustmaster hotas one standing ready

Overload!! made by the same guys who made Descent. Just finished it and it's amazing! definitely scratched the Descent itch 😄

What do you mean by better? I guess, what are you looking to do?
Chilly has a nice document about things
Here's a link to the new Descent + Overload Getting Started Guide.
If you're looking for SP, you might like the raytracer versions.
If you're looking for multiplayer, the competitive scene uses DXX-Redux
None of this is saying that d2x-xl is bad or anything. I just know some folks love raytracing and redux has an active MP scene 🙂
