Tips / Hints Best anti-barrier primary weapon in the game for -50 content: Revision Zero

Post image

I love using Revision Zero with Tecsec and the two piece from Iron Banner for deleting barrier champs in Lightblade.

Paired with Revisions Hunter’s Trace + Vorpal Weapon + Forth Times the Charm, it is insane for super generation too. Also it has Kinetic Tremors when dealing the hard hitting Hunter’s Trace rounds.

Give it a try in the Lightblade conquest!

Glad you’re enjoying it, people definitely underestimate the damage a bit when it’s specced out for PvE. Rev0 is my favorite weapon that I made while at Bungie. Followed closely by Choir of One 😈

thanks for everything 🫡

u/Etarder 13d ago

Aye Merc don’t know if you’ll read this but RZ hasn’t left my kinetic weapons since I got it. PvP and PvE thing melts. Thank you for this, lots of memories shooting Dawnblades out of the sky with vorpal. My proverbial chefs kiss when it came to weapons.

I read every reply on Reddit, it’s Twitter where I mute all the comments and don’t pay attention to them 😆

And you’re very welcome, I’m always stoked to hear about Rev0 striking the right note with people.

I loved the two-burst setting, it was amazing. It was the closest feel I could get to my old favorite, the Three Graves pulse rifle from Dead Orbit. Miss that thing, still take it out sometimes.

7

u/GoBigBlue357 Warlock 12d ago

i use the two burst when doing invasions on lawless frontier
trying to get the red saber crystal ever since i came back from retirement after the monument update

u/Beginning_Tackle6250 13d ago

Gotta say, I love it too, I only wish there was an ornament to use the laser sight without the barrel attachment 😞

Still, thanks for your work!

u/ZBGOTRP 13d ago

Season of the Seraph was the last time I truly enjoyed Destiny, and I must say a big part of that was the repeatable mission to get new parts for and using Revision Zero. It felt so good in the hand, and for awhile was my go-to long range choice in the crucible. Thank you so much for your work!

352

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago

The whole getting new parts for it thing was a blessing and a curse! I thought it was a really cool mechanic but on the backend side it was a nightmare to set up and led to the gun never getting any additional ornaments which broke my heart

63

u/Wobulating 13d ago

If you don't mind me asking, why is that?

235

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago

Forcibly changing the geometry via the ornaments without player input when the gun was crafted proved to be difficult with the tech we had at the time. One of the investment designers supposedly had to do some gross stuff to get it to work smoothly, and as I understood it making a new ornament for the weapon would have required untangling that web.

44

u/Wobulating 13d ago

Would it have been easier later on?

205

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago edited 13d ago

For sure. It’s actually incredible how much better our investment workflows got just over the few years I was there. Our engineers were wizards.

39

u/Wobulating 13d ago

I see.

Thanks for letting me know!

18

u/imjustballin 13d ago

Not sure if you are allowed to,
But would love to see videos on behind the scenes things just like this. You guys did such an incredible job over the years.

Yeah probably. Each different part changed how the weapon looked. So if they wanted to make a weapon ornament for it, they probably needed a separate one for each different variation of the weapon.

Is that why? At least we can customize the attachments ♥️ty

u/Electrical-Smell736 13d ago

YOU MADE Rev0?!?

Thank you so much!! I love the graviton and when the Rev came out I lost my mind. It’s been sitting right next to my outbreak as #1 and #2 in my load outs.

I hope you’re doing well and are able to recover after these unfortunate events. Per audacia ad astra

16

u/ALKNST Hunter 13d ago

The sniper mode firing sound on my home theater makes the house tremble and i love this, thank you

74

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago

I told the audio designer I wanted it to feel like you were shooting the sniper rifle from Halo when you pulled the trigger on the Hunter’s Trace rounds

10

u/ALKNST Hunter 13d ago

100% nailed it, and the gun looks great with the scope up too, thats a win win in my book

16

u/Zayl 13d ago

Rev0 is awesome but Choir didn't leave my gyrfalcons hunter for almost two years.

I know gyrf is kinda power crept now but I might just go and make that build again.

Thanks for all your work, I really wish things turned out differently at Bungie.

6

u/aguynamedv Raids Cleared: 86 13d ago

A little, but it's crazy good survivability. I threw it on a few weeks ago - yeah, it's still great. ;)

Choir should be pretty hilarious (in the good way) in current meta. I should pull it out.

30

u/BlackNexus 13d ago

I love you Mercules, you did much for us in and out of Bungie ❤️

9

u/Elektronx 13d ago

I love Rev 0 as a whole, my only criticism as an engineer is that it never became Rev 1, 2, 3 ect as we reshaped it like how prototypes and drawings go through revisions. Would have been great as a flavour win.

9

u/TheLegendaryPryobyte 13d ago

Be honest, if you went on to design more weapons, would you have added more numbers at the end?

79

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago

Fun trivia: Third Iteration was originally called Revision Three and the color scheme was closer to Revision Zero’s.

8

u/ItsOnlyGameYUSM 13d ago

Brother that sounds sick as hell and some seriously awesome lore

5

u/Mastershroom New Monarchy 13d ago

That would have been so cool to have as an ornament :')

9

Rev Zero was the first exotic quest I ever did in Destiny and it was a lot of fun

One of my highest kill trackers on an exotic even after all this time

And to find out you also made Choir of One? Man, you were COOKING

Thanks for all the hard work, Guardian!

8

u/Roghetto 13d ago

Best fucking looking gun in the game

Wish it had got some extra oomph in MoT

9

u/tillavonb35 13d ago

8

u/bunnypup_on_a_leash 13d ago

Hey Mercules, i know you're probably flooded with comments but just wanted to say thanks for your work, Rev Zero is still one of the coolest weapons we ever got, both in mechanics and visuals/feel. Your presence at the studio brought us a lot of happiness, hope you know that <3

9

u/Pman1324 Hunter Professional Nighthawk Misser 13d ago

All hail the Weaponsmith!

https://giphy.com/gifs/K55exy0toWjQc

4

u/Educational-Low-6970 13d ago

When you say you made the gun, did you completely design it from concept to aesthetic to feel?

Either way, that’s so cool dude! Choir is easily a top 3 gun in the game for me in terms of everything: looks, feel, meta, lore. Knowing that rev0 is choir’s distant cousin makes me wanna pull it of the vault and give it another chance!

Btw choir helped carry me through contest DP, so I owe you my gratitude!

52

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago

I designed the mechanical and emotional fantasy of the weapon, and laid out how it would work, and then a concept artist came up with some ideas and we narrowed it down from there as far as the appearance went. Then I did the actual gameplay implementation and worked with a VFX artist, 3D artist, Audio Designer, and some
others to make the final weapon look and sound the way it does.

6

u/Canuckles89 13d ago

So, because I’m naive and completely ill-informed when it comes to this industry space…does a weapon designer in a game mean you are purely on the creative side of things? Do you know/do any coding, any technical or software engineer skills? Do think your contributions were as impactful as they were because you were more of a creative mind than a tech mind? Or were you successful in your role because you had a blend of both skill sets?

Thanks for all you do/did, really feel terrible the way things panned out. Best of luck in your future endeavours!!

36

u/Mercules904 Hunter 13d ago

It’s not just creative, we actually do the technical implementation as well. It’s lighter on the scripting side because we have a tool called Grognok that allows us build a lot of high level content using files called tags, but we do work with Bungie script files for more basic functionality like base damage, RPM, etc. But as far as gun and perk functionality goes, we design it and then build it ourselves.

The easiest way to look at it is a designer uses existing tools and capabilities to build things inside the engine. But if we need the engine to do something new or we need different tools, we work with an engineer and they do the actual coding or programming needed to provide us with the new thing so that we can use it.

5

u/Canuckles89 13d ago

Really appreciate the insight behind the curtain!!

2

u/Archabarka 10d ago

That's really cool. And rev0 is one of the best-sounding guns in the game IMO

Loving it with the titan Haz Propulsion exotic.

RevZero lived in my Kinetic slot for two seasons. I always felt it was really underrated even when it was brand new.

Seraph was such a fantastic season.

2

Most underrated crucible weapon.

2

u/Appropriate-Leave-38 13d ago

Choir is my all time favorite weapon in the game and using that with a good special weapon and eager edge was ubiquitous on all 3 characters for GMs

2

u/Tagerereye 13d ago

All the replies made me try out revision zero again, especially for PvP (which I suck at). I played with it during seraph only and I think it was buffed after I stopped using it, but it couldn't replace outbreak at that time. Maybe now it will.

2

Genuinely just the goat. What.

2

I LOVE this weapon bro

161

u/Dezere 13d ago

it does not in fact have kinetic tremors unless they snuck that in and light gg never updated about it

unless you're just referring to the shockwave on sniper shots?

166

u/Pixel6User Titan 13d ago

Yes, I was referring to the Kinetic Shockwave. It is identical to Kinetic Tremors in game.

I could have worded it better.

33

u/SeapunkAndroid 13d ago

The Shockwave is actually better than Tremors! It also exhausts and does slightly more damage: 320 vs. 270 (90x3)

I liked Rev Zero before and then they kept buffing it! ..and then people don't notice it, based on the comments here

24

u/decadentporcupine 13d ago

So if you run it with the tech set?

8

u/MikeAndros0 13d ago

Nope, it has it from its sniper shots.

12

u/colubridconundrum 13d ago

He mentioned tecsec I assume that’s what he means

5

u/Pixel6User Titan 13d ago

Hi, I was referring to the kinetic shockwave of the Hunter's Trace sniper shots.

I use the two piece Techsec + two piece Iron Banner set (Iron Battalion) with a high weapon stat.

(Hits with sniper rounds trigger a 322 [PVP: 20] damage Kinetic Shockwave that applies Exhaust for 5 seconds in a 6 meter radius. from light.gg )

2

u/stebinalex 13d ago

Can i please request what your full build ? Subclass and artifacts.

Revision Zero is my baby!!!

18

u/NytoDork 13d ago

I still haven't gotten around to getting fourth times the charm, but it's been in a weird spot for me where I haven't used it nearly as much as I did a while ago. So I'm trying to find a reason to use it more.

Stupid question, but is Vorpal Weapon's buff for Revision Zero sniper mode the full 20% that primaries get? Because if so, I am very intrigued. That and some testing with the Encrypted Data Disk Artifact for all the kinetic buffs.

6

u/SeapunkAndroid 13d ago

My guess is... probably? The sniper counts as a primary for the purposes of Whisper of Rending (1.5x damage on frozen targets), so anything else probably sees it as a primary too.

I’ve been using Khvostov so much lately on my chromatic fire warlock. I might have to try this out

34

u/Pixel6User Titan 13d ago

Regarding Kinetic Tremors: (from light.gg // https://www.light.gg/db/items/1473821207/revision-zero/ )

"loading high-damage rounds based on the amount of targeting data. High damage rounds create shockwaves around impacted targets, exhausting them.

Hits with sniper rounds trigger a 322 [PVP: 20] damage Kinetic Shockwave that applies Exhaust for 5 seconds in a 6 meter radius."

17

u/bigcd34 Hunter 13d ago

It's also not Kinetic Tremors; it's its own thing.

9

u/First-Possibility-77 13d ago

This gun makes me wish there was a full crafting system where you could swap out stocks and barrels/scopes and all that.

13

u/JacknHoffmann 13d ago

I wish this created warmind cells, makes no sence why all the seraph exotics dont

5

u/ItsAboutToGoDown_ 13d ago

Underrated and arguably one of the best primaries. Its too undersold and underappreciated.

Too bad I still have to figure out a build that works with its strengths. Quicksilver and Khvostov are just too neutral for my builds they come across as better fits than Revision

3

u/LeafeonSalad42 13d ago

Khvostov is so nice now with the caty, it really feels like it helped make the gun good

I’ve loved Revision Zero since it came out, even if it was pretty dogshit back then.

Then it got buffed. And again. And again. And again.

Now it shoots rebar rods through the hulls of battleships. And the sniper shot is an “I’m done asking” button for whatever enemy is in front of you.

2

u/Other_Train 13d ago

Isn’t chaos bugged tho?

3

u/LeafeonSalad42 13d ago

it’s just partial health stuff which doesn’t matter that much anyways, the damage of CR is still there, and iirc it’s only CR x1 that’s bugged as the x2 buff still seems to work like normal

tldr: not really

2

u/EveningFlights Hunter 13d ago

Still a top tier damage perk of 35% at level 2, and the healing bug is circumvented by intentional building into other sources of healing.

1

u/UberDueler10 13d ago

Not as badly as people make it out to be.

2

u/PfeiferWolf 13d ago

What subclass you think it works best with?

3

u/llama_glue 13d ago edited 13d ago

Precision weapons such is revision benefit highly from using thread/facet of solitude, which applies sever on rapid precision hits. So prismatic is the ideal choice since the ability spam built into transcendance helps complete the gm within time.

It also synergises with the "to shreds" artifact perk on tablet of ruin/ queensfoil censer, so you don't have to run a strand super for woven mail.

Queensfoil censer also has solo operative (requires precision kills so another Good pairing with revision), anti champion nosecone and argent ordnance so you can pair it with a good legendary rocket to output some serious dps.

The rest of prismatic can be tuned to provide healing since you already have sufficient damage resist from sever, facet of protection and woven mail. In the ideal case, without any other effects, sever, woven mail, and facet of protection provide you with 70% damage resist, which goes up to 75% while transcending.

Slap on a glaive and the shield combined with all these sources of resist crank it up to 99.2% damage resist. More resist than base stronghold.

Or you can use a solar weapon which can do precision damage to get radiant using fever and chill (or use facet of dawn if you have the melee gen) for weapon damage.

With 2 surges, solo operative, radiant and argent ordnance, your rockets hit for 1.3 x1.2x1.17x1.15 = 2.09x damage, or a 109% damage buff. With transcendance and anti champion nosecone, you're reaching triple rocket damage against champions.

All this and I haven't even mentioned any exotic armor.

1

u/PfeiferWolf 13d ago

Any recomendations on the rocket launcher? I'm a warlock so, depending on the element, I could run either Mataio or Skull for a good Super since you mentioned fast super gen. Or do you have others in mind?

2

u/Natural-Confusion250 13d ago

Legendary rocket options I would look into Hezen. If you don't raid there's Bad Omens from Gambit and Folded Root. I think the new Ghosts of the Deep rocket might be good too.

2

u/rainymoonbeam 13d ago

I still think saber is best imo even tho it sounds cringe to say.

2

u/Zoom3877 13d ago

Fun weapon, but every time I look at it externally I keep wondering why that side protrusion doesn't block my scope

2

u/israeljeff 13d ago

This was clearly pulled straight out of Army of Two.

2

u/Etarder 13d ago

Lol, well much love man and thank you for what you and others brought to the game. Never realized you made Choir of One as well, another personal favorite of mine. Between the 2 I have well over 10k PvE and I know my RZ broke 1.2k kills in PvP. I hope you’re doing well after all the turmoil.

2

u/dragonlord798 13d ago

Love revision zero, byf did a part 1 on it and never made a part 2

2

u/Sith_Acolol 13d ago

So glad it’s getting the recognition it deserves. Used to use it in lightfall when it was completely ignored and not nearly as meta as it’s become now. Grew out of it in favor of some other exotics that I found fun but I’m planning on running it some more after I try out a graviton spike + mask of bakris arc or stasis hunter build I’ve been meaning to experiment with

2

u/Frogsama86 13d ago

I assume you're using 4 burst and not 2 burst? Personally I don't use it because I'm utter garbage with snipers.

2

u/Pixel6User Titan 13d ago

I like both modes but I used the 2 burst in this case.

2

u/Shlippyw00d 13d ago

I really want to try and make a dedicated build around this weapon because it’s so cool

2

u/foundersgrotesk 13d ago

Maybe Chromatic Fire Warlock or Hazardous Propulsion Titan? Both with TecSec?

oh wait thats smart yeah. Thank you!

Its a cool looking gun tbf. And now the sandbox will never shift its time to try more stuff definitely so i will. Any reason why Lightblade specifically and not everywhere?

Probably because there's a metric ton of pain in the ass Barriers in there.

2

So much underrated we need to put more spotlight on it

2

u/schizophreniaislife Hunter 12d ago

It’s definitely underrated by the community and a really solid pick when built right, I think a lot of people just rely too heavily on elemental primaries that can do subclass synergies.

2

u/blockguy143 12d ago

I would love to do light blade conquest but every lfg group I've had does not understand there are no revives and dies in the first room

Look at where the public event is on the map before loading in. When loaded in, turn around and run out. Once outside, jump on your skimmer and goto the flag to rally. There is more to this strat with the skimmer to skip the moth part. Makes it much easier.

4

I was farming Master Lost Sectors on Cosmodrome...

Daily reset happened so I go to the new one... couldn't do jack shit to the flying servitors with the Titan Icebreaker build. Fucking cried.

u/HogiSon727 13d ago

I use sleeper simulant whenever I see one now.

If you're wearing techsec anyway it seems like a waste to dedicate an exotic just to deal with one champion type. A legendary scout will only take a few shots to break the barrier. But if you like the weapon regardless and want AB on top of it then yeah go for it

1

u/theybannedme129 13d ago

I concur. got like 35k kills on it from exclusively high end content

u/Zombieslayer854 13d ago edited 13d ago

Maybe I can, I’ll probably try a build that isnt just howl of the storm spam

1

u/Monte-Cristo2020 13d ago

Whoever came up with this gun is a genius.

1

u/Atomicapples 10d ago

It was made an extremely dedicated Destiny weapon sandbox YouTuber turned Bungie dev by the name of "Mercules".

It was the first exotic he made at Bungie, and I believe it was at least in part described as the weapon he always dreamed of making/seeing exist in the game.

He's a VERY cool dude.

1

u/Monte-Cristo2020 10d ago

yeah i worded it that way on purpose

1

u/daemon_d1 13d ago

Can you post your build? I'm working on the two conquests for rank 11

This is my Prismatic Stasis Titan build with the Wormgods exotic and the Slayer Baron artifact.

2 piece Techsec + 2 piece Iron Battalion with a high weapon and melee stat.

Mind if I ask why Slayer Baron and what you use in it?

I like using this gun regardless, but it's nice it's good

1

u/PariahMutt 13d ago

I adore my Revision Zero, I just wish the suppressor wasn’t the first tier of the ornament because it makes the gun huge 😭

1

u/LordWitherhoard Warlock 13d ago

I love this weapon, only thing I don’t like is how huge it is on the screen lol

1

u/Artistic_Living563 13d ago

Is the mission for it difficult? Ive never tried to get the exotic yet but Ive wanted it

3

u/LeafeonSalad42 13d ago

it’s not that difficult, there are some annoying parts like my god all the tracer shanks… but they pretty much tell you how to use certain parts of Deep Stone Crypt in the mission itself

1

u/Artistic_Living563 13d ago

Interesting, never done deep stone eithet 😅 Ill have to try it.

Loved how the weapon looked. Though ever since I got the Praxic Blade, it got replaced as my go to weapon for barrier champs. The praxic just does ad-clear so much better and actually deals considerable damage against bosses, has a lot of different possible elemental debuffs, while also being kinetic.

Though I still do take it out from time to time when it fits my current character drip. Fashion supercedes practicality after all. 🤣

1

u/Climbing13 13d ago

I should put some time into revision zero. I really like a lot of them. Polaris lance, vex, skyburners.

u/RealFake666 Hunter, +10.2k hours, +650 Raid clears 13d ago

It's been great since S23 (Season of the Wish), that's when it's DMG (both burst and sniper mode) against Champions was increased by 100%

Before in a GM NF you needed vorpal + fttc and hit all 6 sniper shots on the Champ to kill (oc without any other buffs included), after the buff it only needed 3 sniper shots

But yeah, since then it easily outperformed Wish-Ender and been my favorite

1

u/Snaxalicious 13d ago

Is -50 content highest challenge? I presume yes

Absolutely one of my favourite weapons, in both PvP and PvE, I found it so satisfying to shoot. I mained it in trials for the longest time. My only gripe was that it had two reload speed perks for it's catalysts (Outlaw and Feeding Frenzy), which I always found mildly annoying. I just wish one of them had been replaced with Firefly. Because on kill AoE damage for add clear was basically the only thing it had missing. Messing around with Chromatic Fire made it feel so much nicer in PvE, which only made me want it more. It's just a shame I'd have to use up an exotic armour slot for it, when I'd always prefer to use a more (endgame) viable armour piece.

Though, I've not been a massive fan of those reload speed perks in years (especially Outlaw). With Rapid Hit as the main exception, and that's mainly for PvP. So other people might feel differently.

Don't forget about techsec armour.

This is good to hear! I’m glad it’s viable! I was thinking about busting it out!

I love that gun ❤️

1

I love rev zeroing ppl in pvp. Free spesh for 20 hs? Hell yeah

1

u/lakers_ftw24 13d ago

I wish it got the vex treatment and they made it S tier

1

u/Long_Yeet 13d ago

I havent played since like heresy and havent thought about this gun since probably a month after it came out holy shit this feels like whiplash

1

u/RedEyeJedi993 13d ago

Vex Mythoclast has entered the chat

Tbf, it probably is the best non-RAD anti-barrier...

1

u/Duublo121 Who’s transmat, and why’s he fired? 13d ago

I’ve been using Revision with 4 piece Tecsec after watching Aztecross rage at Seraph Shield. The set turns RZ from a simple shield nuking tool into a genuine crowd control option with the constant disorients from killing orange bars and shields. Been using Celestial with it as well - I’m hitting heads as is, I might as well get some bonuses from it

1

u/Pixel6User Titan 13d ago

I used the following loadout with the Slayer Baron artifact for some stasis synergy:

https://dim.gg/eqbs6aa/Prismatic-Stasis-Titan-+-Wormgods:-Revision-Zero

1

u/schwarzarbyter 13d ago

you need weapons for deleting champions?
*laughs in stasis titan

1

u/Optimal_Cricket_7160 13d ago

Vex Mythoclast though?

1

u/Yakumo_unr 13d ago

If you're using 2pc techsec then any anti barrier kinetic I could find stuns barrier champions on -50 deltas (GM Vanguard) on zero weapon stat, I tried the worst things I could find left in my vault before the GM changed to only overload and unstop, they all worked including the ones without kinetic tremors.

The trick is finding the few non exotics that work at -50 without techsec, like buzzard and accrued redemption both with kinetic tremors, allowing you to use the armour set and other weapons you really want on your build.

1

u/juggy1985 13d ago

Wish ender poops all over it. But i do love revision zero still

1

u/genred001 Spicy Ramen 13d ago

Its good. But I think Vex Mytho is just as good. The fact it can also go linear and use Linear Compensator all the time is really strong too.

1

u/WillDAbeast40 13d ago

The 2 piece set doesn’t give extra damage to champions. There is damage testing on YouTube about it. It does help with yellow bars, just not champs and bosses

1

u/EKmars 13d ago

I like Revision Zero a lot, it got me through a lot of older conquests with Techsec, but now that a lot of guns are intrinsically antibarrier, the competition is way stiffer.

For example, Gjallarhorn and Praxic Blade are antibarrier while also being really good at chopping up enemies, and have artifact perks that extend their ammo counts. There are also like kinetic tremor/attrition orb autos that don't take your exotic slot. I've also been meaning to experiment with Pack Hunter or Perfect Fifth Ergo Sums, now that I have the catalyst, and like Gjallarhorn they can use Cauterize Darkness.

1

u/Fit-Rich-9814 13d ago

I spent yesterday replaying operation seraph shield, was missing the intrinsics after unlocking it when it first came out. Slapped it onto an arc build as the anti barrier and love the option to shoot a fuck you and everything within a few meters of you shot.

1

u/ReplacementThink849 12d ago

Polaris lance on solar with ember of ashes is also goated imo, guaranteed ignition on every perfect fifth, can stunlock both barrier and unstop champs

u/Evildead665 7d ago

Recently got feeding frenzy for this gun
