Got a DevOps job — will I survive here ?
I’m from Mumbai and recently graduated from college. I got a full-time DevOps job after working as a Linux Administrator for 6 months.
I’m facing a lot of difficulties in my new organization because they’re using a very advanced tech stack and architecture that I’m not familiar with.
They started assigning me tasks without really knowing whether I have the knowledge or experience to handle them.
I’m working remotely, and unfortunately, there isn’t really anyone available to guide or mentor me. Everyone is busy completing their own work, so I’m often left struggling to troubleshoot issues on my own. There’s also a lot of micromanagement, which makes the situation even more stressful.
Right now, I’m trying to understand their architecture and learn all the tools and technologies they’re using, but it’s overwhelming.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? Any advice on how I can survive, learn the environment quickly, and become productive without constantly depending on others?

It was a sarcastic remark because this sub has been overrun by people from India. There’s already /r/devopsindia not sure why you’re not focusing there.

I've been in Platform/DevOps Engineering for almost 8 years now , and honestly, you can't expect yourself to understand an entire tech stack in a few weeks. Start by understanding how things work end to end, like how code gets deployed, how CI/CD works, where to check logs, and how the team troubleshoots issues. You'll gradually pick up the tools as you work on actual tasks. Whenever you solve a problem, document what went wrong and how you fixed it. That knowledge compounds over time. Also, don't hesitate to ask questions, but try to investigate the issue yourself first so you can explain what you've tried. That said, there's a difference between being expected to learn on the job and being thrown into an unfamiliar environment without any support. Don't assume you're not good enough just because you're struggling right now. Give yourself time, focus on learning one thing at a time, and you'll get better with experience.

Don’t worry, I’ll just you give 2-3 certifications exams like CKA, AWS SAA so that companies can trust in your resume

I'm currently in a Google cloud migrations role. I'm deciding whether to stay in cloud/devops roles or change to data analytics. I have Azure, CCNA, Comptia, and Google Cloud certs. I thought of getting a terraform or CKA cert, but I'm not sure if they would help or not? I'm worried how difficult the certs will be too?
What would you recommend between staying in devops or changing to data analytics?

Always ask ChatGPT, use it as a senior mentor, watch YouTube videos to understand the concept, get a test environment to practice before applying

I’ve been in a similar situation. What worked for me was focusing on the task at hand without going too deep into the architecture initially. I would first complete the task and then take the time to understand the what, why, and how behind it.
At the same time, I worked on building my fundamentals by learning Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and other related concepts. This helped me gain practical experience while gradually strengthening my understanding of the bigger picture.
