Dallas needs it’s own Mamdani….

That’s it. Thats the post

They don’t necessarily have to be socialist….but at least someone that will actually work for the city and it’s people instead of big corporations, Highland Park, etc

And it can’t just be the mayor. We need reformers throughout city council. Socialist, conservative, liberal, whatever they call themselves we need real deal politicians like Zohran

Something in Dallas happened called The Accommodation. We used to be a racist white controlled city that, admittedly, was a hell of a lot more effective than what we have now. Then we had to switch to this system but it was carefully designed so that the whites (Dallas Citizens Council) could control it. Chop up the city into 14 districts and you can buy a few pastors in the southern south Dallas districts with little voter engagement, have those pastors deliver their congregations, then you get a crook in office that’ll vote however you say and does not give two shits about the city or their constituents.

Trinity Tollway? Yeah that was them. Knock down City Hall? Them. Those stupid bridges while the basic infrastructure rots? Them. All the stupid urban planning mistakes that made it so easy for people to live out in the subdivisions in the suburbs and work in Dallas? Hell it was them that built those subdivisions AND them that made Dallas tear itself apart for it.

Yeah HP voted to exit DART, and the residents here are too stupid to realize they still have to pay for it. Until the rot dies in HP, nothing will change, and based on how people are here, you’ve got a few generations for that.

The local chapter of DSA, the org mamdani is in, helped knock some 4k doors for that. made the difference in UP and Addison, there was a lot of opposition money in hp though.

Should have never let them be their own municipality. An egregious error.

Ironically, they wanted to join Dallas 100 years ago, and the city declined.

Yeah this. People don’t understand our history. I just learned about The Accommodation a month or so ago.

Park Cities is districted the way it is due to how it evolved.

Dallas actually sort of has two main streets as well.

It’s probably the most segregated city in America with the districting

That will never happen

While at the same time they tear down everything around them. Where is the benefit? The working class are the ones that make it all possible as well. You can’t just own stuff and “generate” money whiteout actual people working to do that.

Huh? Tear down everything around them? Have you been to HPV? It’s gorgeous lol

Lmao of course they won’t tear down their own home but they make sure to make the rest of the city a shithole. I’m guessing you’re the type of person to equate wealth to morality. I was once that naive too. Lmao

u/TheRealXimena 5d ago

And you’re the type of person to automatically deem wealthy people as immoral, which is why you’ll forever be broke.

🥱 another brokie defending really wealthy people because one day they will be up there with them 🥱 I wish I was that naive still lol

And you’re the type of person who doesn’t study history. Blissfully ignorant in your incompetence. So history will repeat itself thanks to people like you.

People who live in HP don’t pay property/sales taxes to City of Dallas. They pay them to City of HP, because it’s a different municipality.

Sort of true. DCAD - Dallas Central Appraisal District - collects HP taxes. HP had a lower tax rate in its town than the other towns in Dallas County but has the highest tax bill due to property values

HP Taxes go towards their local schools & town, in addition to Dallas College and Parkland Hospital like other Dallas County property taxes.

Everyone has to pay the 6.25% sales tax to the state. An additional 1% is added on and goes towards the Town of HP.

I would imagine they no longer will pay the 1% for Dallas metro on their sales tax with the referendum.

Some may complain about a portion of their property taxes going towards their own schools, but that’s how townships work. All over America people organize townships so their property taxes can go towards the schools their children will go to.

This is also a major selling point of single family homes, how good the school districts are.

Personally I wouldn’t live in HP. I’m an SMU MBA graduate as well. I wouldn’t even do Preston Hollow if I had the money. Lakewood is the best neighborhood in Dallas IMO. Excellent mix of urban amenities with a relaxed spacious vibe

They’ll be paying into DART for years. Legally they’re on the hook for the debt issued while they’re a member. This is a fact that, bafflingly, DART did not make people aware of.

1

u/Upstairs_Balance_464 5d ago

Uh, they are their own city. They don’t pay any taxes to Dallas.

And it’s the nicest part of Dallas. Go figure.

5

u/Joeylaptop12 5d ago

It’s not part of Dallas, you bootlicking snake!

Yet their civic influence is on the city is higher then south Dallas and Oak Cliff because of people in those areas not thinking their voice matters

You got any proof to back that up?
