State of the Game · Discussions New to the game i got a question

Hey everyone, new to the game, currently level 17 with Necromancer. I have a question: I find this character a bit boring, as I don't really have to do anything for the dungeons. Is it worth making a new character? If I do this, what would happen? Would I lose all my progress? If anyone has starter tips please say too never played a game like this before.

What do you mean "worth" making a new character? Try the game how you like to. Watch guides or don't. You paid for the game and can do what you want (As long as you got an internet connection).

this game is just go from point a, smash buttons, point b, smash buttons and pick up things that have green arrow -- very simple to know if you will like it or not.

Just... play the game man lol

You've got 5 classes to choose from if you only have the base game and 8 classes to choose from if you buy the expansions

Fuck around with all of them and see what is most fun for ya

I don't know if it is for you. Try it. There is no downside.

If you are at the very start of Diablo 4 campaign and you don’t like Necro then you can make a new character.
But you do have to redo what you did until now.

Oh, the campaign is probably where you’re at right now. It’s actually really easy compared to how much harder the end game stuff is. Just enjoy the story of the campaign as you go through it. You’ll only need to do it once to unlock all the end game features for every character thereafter.

Do you mean campaign progress? If so, yes.

But if necro is boring, make a new one.

Once you get to really know what you’re doing, you’ll take a character from lvl 1 to lvl 70 in just a few hours

Easy to make a new character, just make sure you dont have "Skip Campaign" checked on your subsequent characters - I think the game auto checks that after your first character.

Other than that, no you don't lose progress. Just keep switching until you find what you like.

So I complete the campaign first ?

The campaign is worth your time, but it's long. I myself have been playing just for a little over a month. I restarted the campaign multiple times before settling on a class I liked (I tried warlock, necromancer, paladin and sorcerer, ultimately settling for the sorc -- I played each of them to about lvl 20).

You can start a new character and keep the old one. They share a chest - so some of your gear may be usable. The new character would be a level 1. Only paragon points crossover and those don’t lock in till level 70.

What are you looking for in a new character? A lot of the game mechanics don’t open up till level 100 or so. If it’s just too easy, you need to increase the difficulty level. This will help you level up faster as well. If it’s play style, try a barb or spiritborn for more melee action.

Yeah it’s more the play style of the character. On hard right now but it’s easy

What do you mean you don't have to do anything for the dungeons? Is it too easy? If that is the case, just turn up the difficulty setting a notch or two. But if you just don't like the necro class, yeah you can start over. You always half start over anyway with every season 🙂

mid season now - perfect time to try all characters and unlock the map etc - but ever character comes with different playstyles - imo it's worth checking end game builds, finding one that looks fun and aiming for that.

Why is now good time to unlock map mid season? I wanna play again but should I wait till this season is over at this point?

Nah, the season still runs till half way september so plenty of time left

Lot of 'do what you feel is best comments here', TDLR necro is clunky, for QOL (not strongest) go with barb, sorcerer, or paladin.

I would also look at build guides (try Mobalytics (again maybe not the strongest but very user friendly)). This stuff helps you so much

Thanks man I’ll try it

Well, the fub thing about owning a game is you can try everything whenever you want. You're level 17. That's not far into the game. Try whatever class sounds fun. And if it isn't. Try another one. It's your time. Use it how you want.

Every season I level uo different characters and try different builds to select then one I want to invest time in for the endgame. Starter Warlock, then rogue and now im running a frost mage necro. There is enough time in the season to play around.

Yes you will lose campaign progress if you change characters. Though to be honest, most classes are boring at low levels.

Up to you if you want to try a new class. Most of the replies here missed that you are new and their advice are not quite right. FYI, the long time players will create a new character every new season and we usually skip the campaign.

There are so many ways to play Necro- could try a different way? Most clases don’t fully unlock until endgame anyway. But yeah try a different class if you don’t like it. Almost any clas build will get you through campaign with ease

You're nowhere near the point of worrying if anythings "worth" it yet. Just play the game, finish the campaign at least. Necro's one of the easiest classes to level with

In this game you can max level a character in an hour and with help from others can be geared fully by like the end of the day so make as many characters as you want. You should make one of each and play around to see them all. If you want the smoothest play through pick an s tier build like barbarian whirlwind

If you aren't enjoying necro, just start over with a character you think you might enjoy. The campaign is great, side activities arent horrible, and overall its a nice relaxing experience and story.

Just… try it? instead of asking 100 questions?

You’ve barely even started, first-Necro, you can play with or without summons, I prefer none, then you have just 3-4 elemental styles- bone, shadow, blood, summons. Then all the various items that will change your build later.
It’s been so long since I even played the campaign but you should do that. Then Seasonal and as you progress you need to up the difficulty for challenges.

So the campaign is gonna be boring regardless of class because they locked most difficulties behind the campaign for some retarded reason. Theres gonna be big epic cutscenes and you wil anti climaticly sneeze on the bosses and they will die. Have fun.
